Dear Graduates,

Plans have been shattered for everyone with the global pandemic and it is perhaps

the biggest disruption most, if not all of us, will ever face in our lifetime and as

we navigate through uncharted territory, air transport will undoubtedly be at the

forefront of the world’s economic rebirth when countries get over the height of the

pandemic.

Even in these times of skepticism and uncertainty, there is still hope. There is good

reason to celebrate this year’s 142 AMPAP graduates who come from 61 airport

organizations that are in 42 countries worldwide. For the majority, AMPAP is not

just another vehicle to receive a nice-to-have diploma, rather, the Programme is a

platform to propel its participants as enablers and game changers who stand behind

the best practices, procedures, applications, and infrastructure that foster significant,

innovative contributions within their airport enterprise and in our industry worldwide.

While the pandemic has heightened our awareness of fluid conditions for the

future, recipients of the International Airport Professional (IAP) and the AMPAP

Associate diplomas and designation are among those who join the ranks of leaders

who generate energy and enthusiasm. We are proud of them and believe these

sharpened, “future-wise” individuals can be key players to ignite the change their

organizations need to confront the uncertainty and turbulent times before us.

From the immediate impact of the pandemic crisis to establishing measures to

rebuild some traffic in a safe and efficient manner, ICAO, ACI, and multitudes of

global teams have already been meaningfully contributing to these efforts. However,

the fundamental challenge lies in rethinking new business models for the aviation

system and its service providers, including airports, airlines, air navigation service

providers, and aircraft manufacturers. All aviation enterprises must now re-work their

Strategic Business Plans and Infrastructure/Asset Plans but to predict the rate and

nature of recovery is near impossible due to the very nature of the global pandemic.

Juxtapose that with such megatrends as environmental challenges, global power

shifts, and the advent of revolutionary technologies and one can only envisage going

forward with a series of plausible futures for any business strategy.

As we approach the 14th anniversary since ACI and ICAO joined forces to launch AMPAP with the view to developing and

augmenting systemic thinking among executive managers in the aviation community, this unique, advanced management

competency development programme has proven its value to executives worldwide in 116 countries where hundreds of

airport organizations have been paying attention.

In spite of the havoc to our industry, we humbly believe that advocating for AMPAP to become an integral part of the

Competency Building Master Plans in airport enterprises worldwide would complement and strengthen their positioning

to focus on the hardships and opportunities over a longer period of time. In our role of Programme Administrator, we are

also tirelessly committed to doing better on various fronts, including making the Programme more universally available

to participants from LDCs and working to increase gender participation of women beyond the 25% intake to date.

The Global Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme

(AMPAP) seeks to develop airport managers through a curriculum that

covers all functional aspects of the airport business in key areas such

as operations, safety, security, finance, commercial management and

airport planning and development. The AMPAP curriculum consists of 4

mandatory and 2 elective courses and emphasizes adherence to uniform

standards and recommended best industry practices, while facilitating a

cross-cultural learning environment for its participants.

Since the launch of AMPAP in 2007, the entry course, “Air Transport

System” has been conducted multiple times across the globe, attracting an

active community of airport managers from all continents. AMPAP proudly

recognizes its graduates who bear the International Airport Professional

(IAP) designation and those who receive the AMPAP Associate Diploma

which is reserved for stakeholder organizations.
