THE PRESIDENT AND

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

Since our founding in 2008, we have

been steadfast in our mission to provide

financial support to help enrich and enhance

the learning and teaching of our students.

Last spring and this fall the coronavirus

pandemic posed an incredible challenge to

our families, students, teachers and staff,

as we all try to navigate uncharted waters.

But even in these precarious times, the

missions of the Lewisburg Area School

District and The Green Dragon Foundation

have not changed, even though the

execution of them has.

For example, this summer, thanks to the

energy, creativity and commitment of several

parents and the generosity of many donors,

a “Lifting Up Lewisburg” fundraising initiative

raised more than $33,000 to help the district

with extraordinary costs associated with

the pandemic. In this time of uncertainty,

unrestricted gifts provide the greatest

flexibility to the district, therefore the Annual

Fund is our highest fundraising priority.

While underwriting immediate needs is

important, we also must look to the future

and the mandate to build and grow our

various endowments (see pages 8-13),

which will support LASD priorities in

perpetuity.

We hope you share our pride in what we have

accomplished together. And we hope that

you will continue to support students through

MESSAGE FROM

Dr. Jennifer Polinchock

SUPERINTENDENT, LEWISBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

Now, more than ever, school districts have become a

community resource that extends beyond educating

our children. Since March 2020, we have especially

appreciated the school district’s role in supporting

the educational, social, emotional and physical needs

of our youth through excellence in academics and

athletic programs. The Lewisburg Area School

District plays an important role in supporting so

many aspects of the development of children and

adolescents through meaningful engagement and

active participation in extracurricular activities,

cultural exploration and positive discourse.

The Lewisburg Area School District is taking the

lessons it has learned from the pandemic to

catapult forward the use of instructional technology to

redesign learning. The notion of in-person

learning can no longer be limited to students’

physical presence in school. It must incorporate

a virtual presence—part of the world of the future

in an increasingly global society.

Our students are developing competencies in

communication and collaboration with their peers.

They are extending their thinking to express their

knowledge in creative, personalized and innovative

ways. These transferable skills will help set our

students apart from others entering college or the

workforce.

that every student has the opportunity to realize his

or her potential. The diversity of our student body

helps students develop empathy for people of

differing backgrounds. This multiplicity also requires

unique and specialized support to allow all students

to take full advantage of our programming. Over the

past year, for example, the Lifting Up Lewisburg

campaign has raised over $33,000 to support those

in the community affected by the pandemic. These

funds will support students and families in need of

supplies and services, and facilitate efforts to safely

reopen schools.

We ask you to partner with us to reimagine education.

Whether it is enriching the experiences of students

or creating opportunities that break down the

barriers for students, our partnership with The Green

Dragon Foundation makes it possible. The Lewisburg

Area School District is not daunted by the challenges

posed to us in 2020. Instead, the district is

underscoring what we always knew, but took for

granted. School, as a place for education, experience,

connection, and compassion, is a necessary

component in preparing our next generation for their

future.

I want to thank all of the donors whose gifts, both

past and present, have made a difference in the lives

of our students.

With the support of The Green Dragon Foundation,

the Lewisburg Area School District is able to ensure

Through the generosity of parents, alumni, businesses and friends, The Green Dragon Foundation

supports Lewisburg Area School District students, faculty and programs in a variety of ways.

IN 2019-2020, THE GDF PROVIDED A TOTAL OF $273,554 TO BENEFIT LASD STUDENTS.

GDF donated $69,497 ($64,847 financial and $4,650 in-kind) to the LASD and endowed an additional

$204,057 for future programmatic support. These gifts will enhance and enrich educational opportunities

for all students in the Lewisburg area for years to come!

ABOUT US

The Green Dragon Foundation is a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3)

organization dedicated to providing and directing funding for the realization

of educational, cultural and athletic programs, and capital improvement

projects, for the enrichment and enhancement of the students of the

Lewisburg Area School District.

A Review of 2019-20 Successes

Thanks to loyal and dedicated donors and

volunteers, the hard work of The Green Dragon

Foundation’s Board of Directors, Lewisburg Area

School District leadership, faculty and staff, the

GDF raised $332,633 in 2019-2020.

Your gifts, and your willingness to invest in

Lewisburg area students, faculty and programs every

year, and especially during these uncertain times,

make a difference in every student’s life every day.

This additional revenue helps meet the needs of

Lewisburg’s most vulnerable students, and creates

exceptional opportunities for all Lewisburg students.

Endowments provide even greater long-term

programmatic support; major gifts underwrite projects;

and increasing annual support enhances a variety of

programs throughout the LASD.

The GDF is governed by a 29-member board of

directors (including advisors), led by executive

director Ann Glock, and staffed by administrative

assistant Tushaar Khurana. In 2019-2020, GDF

benefited from the work of 49 volunteers who

provided 370 hours of service.

A Plan for 2020-21 and Beyond

The GDF will continue to raise much-needed funds

to support the Lewisburg Area School District’s

priorities. For this year, and possibly longer, GDF

will concentrate its fundraising efforts to meet the

immediate needs of the district as their educational

plans evolve. Additionally, we will focus on helping

meet the needs of the most vulnerable students in

our school community.

As soon as the pandemic crisis eases, GDF will once

again begin to solicit gift commitments for capital

improvements and multi-year support of programs,

long-term investment through endowments and

planned giving opportunities for future support.

There is still so much to do!

Why I Serve

KAREN NICHOLSON

The Green Dragon Foundation is fortunate to have

civic-minded board members who are passionate about

giving back to the community. Karen Nicholson has made

education one of her priorities and has served on the

GDF board since 2015. Karen values a strong, vibrant

community and feels personally rewarded by her service.

Although Karen is not a Lewisburg native, she has

become a strong community member for almost 30

years. Growing up in Lebanon, PA, Karen went on to

study at Kent State in Ohio where she earned her B.A.

and M.A. Upon completing her studies, Karen took a

position with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in West

Virginia. This career would take her to 12 different

Karen’s two sons, John ’04 and David Allen ’07, were

very involved in the arts when they were at LAHS. David

Allen excelled at pottery and went on to study Industrial

Design. When Karen joined the GDF Board, the Vision

2020 Campaign was in its early stages. Recalling the

cramped quarters where her son worked on his art

projects, Karen saw the need for a state-of-the-art

facility at the new high school. Through Karen’s

generosity, Lewisburg students now enjoy “The

Nicholson Family Art Studio,” which has spacious work

areas equipped with pottery wheels, kilns, easels and

much more. Funds are still available to upgrade

equipment as necessary.

Karen serves on the boards of several community

organizations including the YMCA, Susquehanna Valley

Mediation and CASA. She is currently the President of

the Sunrise Rotary. In 2019 she opened her own

consulting business. She is the past Chair of GDF’s

Strategic Initiatives Committee, which recommends the

types of projects the foundation will support.

Karen enjoys her role on the GDF Board because she

enjoys giving. “It makes me feel good to provide the

students with opportunities over and above what they

would get from the regular budget,” she stated. She

appreciates fellowship with other board members and

meeting new people. The Green Dragon Foundation is

grateful to Karen for being an active board member and

strong member of the Lewisburg community.

“LIFTING UP LEWISBURG”

CAMPAIGN

Last spring, a grassroots group of Lewisburg

Area School District parents came together

and, in partnership with The Green Dragon

Foundation, began planning a campaign to raise

funds to support LASD’s efforts to educate our

children during the current school year. On June

22, “Lifting Up Lewisburg: A Campaign to

Support Our Schools During this Unique and

Challenging Time” was launched with an initial

goal of $20,000.

Various donors contributed generously to support

this effort. LASD parents Heather Haynos, Rachel

Martine, Emek Ucarer and Lisa Perrone sewed

more than 250 cloth masks which were sold at

The Mercantile, a store in downtown Lewisburg.

They sewed another 250 masks to donate to

Linntown Intermediate School for the students to

use when they came back to school. LASD parent

and alum Jackie Holtzapple Mast ’93, of DEEsigns,

designed and produced special campaign t-shirts.

Proceeds from the sale of masks and t-shirts were

added to the campaign total.

We are happy to announce we achieved our

initial goal of $20,000 early in the campaign! With

several weeks remaining, the committee made

the decision to increase the goal to $30,000 so

that we could provide even greater support for

Lewisburg students and teachers. As of July 31,

a total of $33,811 was raised! Even though the

crowdfunding appeal ended July 31, GDF

continues to fundraise to help meet our students’

and teachers’ additional needs. Funds will be

allocated in the 2020-2021 school year to

support LASD students and teachers.

BEQUESTS AND OTHER

PLANNED GIFTS

Bequests are provisions in wills to leave

a gift to GDF. Charitable bequests are

fully deductible from the estate and can

significantly reduce estate taxes on the

balance of the estate. Bequests may be

specified as a gift of cash or securities,

real estate or other property. Alternatively,

they may take the form of a percentage

of the total estate. A donor may consider

a residuary bequest, which is a gift of all

or a portion of one’s estate, after other

conditions are met.

A PLANNED GIFT

In September 2019, Bob and Peggy Degling notified The Green Dragon

Foundation of their intention to make a commitment through a planned gift.

As a result, Bob and Peggy joined The 1885 Society, which recognizes

individuals and families who have remembered GDF in their estate plans

through documented planned gifts. The foundation was thrilled to learn

about their generous intention.

Bob, Class of 1958, stated, “Peggy and I included the GDF in our trust

because we value a good education and the underlying activities. The GDF

is goal-oriented and efficient with a successful track record. We also want

to recognize its leadership and the volunteers that maximize each dollar

donated.”

He continued, “Peggy is a University of Florida graduate and CPA, and was

insistent that we include the GDF in our trust because she knew

The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), also known as the

“Charitable IRA Rollover,” continues to be a tax-savvy way to

give for those who qualify. If you’d like to give to help provide

educational opportunities for Lewisburg students, the QCD can

help you leverage your support—and minimize your taxation.

To support Lewisburg students by making a QCD, you must:

• Be 70 ½ years or older at the time of the gift.

• Have a traditional or Roth IRA.

• Transfer funds, not exceeding $100,000 per year,

directly from your IRA to GDF.

Benefits include:

• Gifts make an immediate impact by advancing GDF’s mission.

• Gifts count toward your required minimum distribution

(RMD), now beginning at age 72.

• Gifts are not included in, and therefore not taxed as, income

for federal tax purposes.

• Gifts simulate an itemized income tax charitable deduction

for nonitemizers.

• Gifts can be directed to support the annual fund, educational,

cultural or athletic programs.

HOW CAN I MAKE A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE

DISTRIBUTION TO SUPPORT GDF?

QCDs are easy; a simple letter of instruction to your IRA

administrator begins the process. We will provide one for

you, or you can visit the GDF website at:

www.greendragonfoundation.org to download and print

the IRA form and instructions to share with your IRA

account administrator.

NEW LAW: NO REQUIRED MINIMUM

DISTRIBUTIONS IN 2020!

As a part of the CARES Act, Congress has temporarily

eliminated most required minimum distributions (RMD) from

retirement plans during 2020. Check with your financial advisor

to see how this might affect you. Even without an RMD, a QCD

remains a great way to make tax advantageous contributions.

Lewisburg still has a place in my heart.” The couple is deeply rooted

in Lewisburg and the Lewisburg Area School District. Bob’s brother,

Tom, who is deceased, and his wife, Donna Baker, were in the Class of

1961. Bob’s father, Dr. E.G. Degling, moved to Lewisburg after World War

II and was a leading founder of Evangelical Community Hospital. Bob

noted, “As the town doctor, he gave the annual physicals to Lewisburg

school students.”

According to Bob, when he was about to head off to Penn State, he

had doubts whether his schooling was on par with other schools, and

wondered if he would be at a disadvantage. He stated, “I didn’t graduate

first in the Class of ’58, but I did graduate first in my college class and I

received the top CPA score in the state of Pennsylvania.” He continued,

“I mention this, not to brag, to illustrate that Lewisburg schools were

always top-notch and the GDF assures it stays that way!”

CREATING AN ENDOWMENT

Creating a gift in the form of an endowment provides funding for

the Lewisburg Area School District in perpetuity. The principal

funds are preserved, while a small percentage of income and gains

is available each year for distribution to the LASD. It is a perfect

way to establish an enduring legacy in honor or memory of a loved

one. It also creates a permanent stream of funding for a donor’s

particular interest.

The Green Dragon Foundation focuses on matching donor interests

to the academic, arts, athletic and support program opportunities

that exist throughout the LASD. To accomplish this goal, the GDF

seeks support for program-specific endowments, both general and

named, the income from which will support LASD programming for

the life of the fund.

MARYELLEN (CARTER)

& RICHARD L. KEYSER

Endowment

In March 2020, The Maryellen (Carter)

and Richard L. Keyser Endowment at The

Green Dragon Foundation was created.

Through the endowed fund, Maryellen

(Carter) Keyser, Class of 1961, and

Richard L. Keyser, Class of 1960, will

support the types of activities that

enriched their lives while they were

students in Lewisburg. They want to

help provide exceptional educational

opportunities for current and future

Lewisburg students.

By creating the unrestricted fund,

Maryellen and Dick are enabling the

foundation’s board of directors to allocate

the endowment’s annual distributions to

support a variety of educational

opportunities, including guest speakers,

artists-in-residence, performing and visual

arts, music, and STEM programs.

According to Maryellen and Dick, “We

believe the arts and humanities, along

with STEM skills, can come together

in powerful ways to foster critical

thinking, build character and

teamwork. We hope that our contribution

to The Green Dragon Foundation will, in

some small way, encourage creativity and

vision in the students of the Lewisburg

school system to move society toward a

better future and for their own success.”

UNIQUELY THE SAME

THE JUSKO FAMILY

Endowment

Uniquely the Same—The Jusko Family

Endowment will provide annual income

to the Lewisburg Area School District to

fund programs that support the social,

emotional and physical well-being of

each student.

The fund was created by Ken and Corey

Jusko, in honor of their children, Nolan

and Maya. The Juskos believe we are

all truly different and unique individuals,

but still have the same basic emotional

needs. If every student can be reminded

of that daily, it may open our minds and

allow us to be more forgiving of other’s

actions, and keep us from judging or

hurting others.

Annual distributions from this fund will

help prepare and educate faculty and

students on topics such as, but not

limited to, face-to-face bullying,

cyber-bullying, drinking/drugs/suicide,

sexual harassment and rape, and racial

differences.

They believe all students within the

LASD should be free of social

injustices. The social and emotional

state of our children must be nurtured

as an important part of providing a

well-rounded educational experience.

This endowment provides the

opportunity to enrich every child and

educate and nurture their social

well-being to make LASD campuses

safer and friendlier. Ken and Corey

want to ensure that there are available

funds every year to help create a culture

of openness and respect to ease the

stress and anxiety related to societal

pressures.

THE PAT COLLINS

Endowment

This fund supports the LAHS Technology

Lab through programs and activities that

enriched Pat Collins’ education while

he was a student in LASD schools. He

wanted to share his love of building and

woodworking with as many students as

possible.

In 2019-2020, $3,527 was given for

robotics within the High School

Technology Lab. As of June 30, 2020,

the fair market value of the fund was

$100,283.

THE DIROCCO FUND

for Professional Development

This fund, in honor of Dr. Mark DiRocco,

supports district-wide training

opportunities to enhance professional

skills for administrators, teachers and

staff, including workshops, conference

participation, speakers, programs and

certifications.

A total of $1,000 was distributed to

help support a week-long professional

development seminar for all LASD staff.

This fund provides arts support to

strengthen and maintain programs

primarily for poetry and the visual arts,

needs of band and the performing arts.

The fund supports the type of activities

that enriched Miles’ education while he

was a student in LASD schools.

The GDF distributed $1,544 to help

support the purchase of all new

instruments for the percussion section

of the LAHS Marching Dragons. An

additional allocation of $350 was made

to support the Donald H. Eichhorn Middle

School’s first literary magazine, The

Dragon Scroll. As of June 30, 2020,

Environmental Sciences

This fund supports district-wide

environmental science education in

a variety of forms, including outdoor

science labs, research/teaching

The GDF distributed $924 to help

support the purchase of LittleBits

STEAM Education Packs at the Donald

H. Eichhorn Middle School. This engages

students in STEAM learning by creating

fun inventions, encouraging exploration,

experimentation and creativity. As of

June 30, 2020, the fair market value of

the fund was $11,338.

THE WILLIAM H. AND LILLIAN D. HEINER

Endowment for Literacy Mastery

This fund supports initiatives and opportunities for preschool and elementary

school children to master literacy skills that are essential for success in school and

in life. The fund was created by Lily and Dave Openshaw in memory of Lily’s parents.

During the 2019-2020 school year, GDF fulfilled its three-year commitment with a

gift of $570 to support the Kelly Summer Packs Program. The program extended

learning opportunities throughout the summer for economically disadvantaged, ESL

and other students who may struggle academically. Families received bags with

books, flash cards and other literacy activities to help maintain their children’s skills

over the summer.

As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the fund was $31,034.

This endowment provides district-wide support for science, technology,

engineering and math programs. In the 2019-2020 school year, $720 was

distributed to purchase a “Makey-Makey STEM Pack: Classroom Invention

Literacy Kit” for Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School students. These kits

provide a basic circuit board that allows a student to learn to connect

anything with conductive energy to something he/she programs. Creative

computing provides a curriculum structure for the basics of coding, while

specifically encouraging creativity, problem-solving and ingenuity in our

students.

The GDF Endowment

FOR LASD LACROSSE

PROGRAMS

The endowment provides annual funding

for students who participate in the

district’s lacrosse programs. The fund

was created by Tom and Cindi Martin to

ensure there are available funds every

year to support the sport of lacrosse.

In 2019-2020, $423 was distributed to

the high school girls’ team for training

equipment. Unfortunately, the season

was cancelled due to COVID-19. The

team is looking forward to the 2021

season.



The Endowment for

PERFORMING & VISUAL

ARTS PROGRAMS

This fund provides district-wide support

for performing arts (chorus,

instrumental, musical or dramatic

productions) and visual arts

(photography, video, film, painting,

drawing, ceramics or sculpture)

programs. In the 2019-2020 school year,

$663 was distributed to help fund the

purchase of the LAHS Marching Dragons

percussion instruments.



THE LOIS J. HUNTER

Endowment

This endowment provides annual funding to support district-wide science,

music, performing arts and social/emotional health programs. It was created

by David M. Hunter, Jr. in memory of his wife, Lois.

The GDF distributed $420 to help support the purchase of all new instruments

for the percussion section of the LAHS Marching Dragons.


THE JOSEPHINE K.

MACHAMER STEELE

Endowment

This endowment provides equal annual

funding for learning support and girls’

basketball programs. It was created by

Don and Joanne Steele in memory

of Don’s mother, who played on the

1930 girls’ team.

During the 2019-2020 school year, the

GDF distributed $398 for the high

school girls’ basketball program. It

funded equipment to help the team

increase strength and conditioning

and improve their offensive skills.

These funds provide district-wide support for academic programs and initiatives

that promote the health and well-being of students and staff. In the 2019-2020

school year, both endowments supported the Link Crew program with a distribution of

$1,599. This program trains a group of juniors and seniors to be Link Leaders who help

first-year students adjust to high school.

As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the GDF Endowment for Educational

Programs was $38,244. The fair market value of the GDF Endowment for Health

and Well-Being was $22,065.

MEMORIAL FIELD

This fund was created to support an athletic program

or facility project within the Lewisburg Area School

District.

As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the

fund was $194,266.

During the 2019-2020 school year, some of the endowed

funds were expended to construct The Brandon Kramm

Memorial Baseball Field. The field was nearly complete

when construction was stopped due to COVID-19

restrictions. An April 2020 grand opening was postponed

and will be rescheduled for the current school year. After

field construction is completed and all expenses paid,

any remaining funds will stay in the quasi-endowment for

future athletic programs or projects. The goal is to begin

playing games on the field in spring 2021!

For LAHS Art Programs

The fund supports art programs at Lewisburg Area

High School. During the 2019-2020 school year, $2,083

was distributed to LAHS to purchase four additional

pottery wheels. Students love working with clay and

wheel throwing is becoming increasingly popular. The

additional wheels allow more students to participate.

As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the

fund was $15,434.


OZOBOTS


For LAHS

Science Programs

The fund was created to support science programs at

Lewisburg Area High School. During the 2019-2020

school year, with donors’ permission, the GDF Board

of Directors expanded the use of the fund to include

district-wide STEM programs. A total of $2,967

was distributed to:

• Complete the outfitting of an additional science lab at

the high school with state-of-the-art equipment

• Purchase an EVO Educator Entry Kit and Ozobot Evo

Classroom Kit of 12 Ozobot robots to enhance the 3rd

grade STEM and coding curriculum.

As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the fund

was $45,105.

On Dec. 8, 2019, The Green Dragon Foundation

hosted its annual Donor & Volunteer Recognition

Reception to celebrate the continuing excellence

of Lewisburg schools and GDF’s 11th year of

support for students.

The event was held at Iron Front in Lewisburg

and included special recognition of our

dedicated volunteers and the generosity of

our wonderful supporters. Volunteers were

recognized for 5 and 10 years of service.

Special honorees this year included Cindi

Martin, who was recognized as GDF’s

Volunteer of the Year, and Kathy Swope,

who was honored for her service to GDF

as the LASD School Board President.

LAHS Technology Education Teacher, Mr. Blake

Dutweiler, and Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School

Vocal and General Music Teacher, Ms. Sarah

Tiede, provided first-hand accounts of how donor

gifts have enhanced educational experiences for

Lewisburg students.

GDF President Bob Kallin closed the evening

by thanking all in attendance for their ongoing

dedication, generosity and commitment to the

students of the Lewisburg Area School District.

LAHS ALUMNI

WEEKEND 2019

LAHS Alumni Weekend 2019 was full of fun, family,

friends and food! With class reunions joining the

weekend festivities, alumni were scattered around

town enjoying all the events. Alumni had the

opportunity to take a tour of the high school,

complete with refreshments served in the school’s

Heritage Room. Unfortunately, this year, LAHS

Alumni Weekend was cancelled. We are looking

forward to next year’s festivities.

KINDERGARTEN

GRILL-OUT 2019

On Aug. 14, 2019, The Green Dragon Foundation

and the Lewisburg Elementary PSA co-hosted the

6th annual Kindergarten Grill-Out event at St. Mary

Street Park. The yearly event, which features a

light supper, welcomed all incoming kindergarten

children and their families. It was a great opportunity

for students and families to meet their fellow

classmates and their families. On hand to welcome

students were Kelly Elementary Principal, Mr. Chris

Ruhl, and former LASD Superintendent, Dr. Steven

Skalka.

The Green Dragon Foundation has

a staff giving program that allows

Lewisburg Area School District staff

to conveniently make donations.

Each year at the LASD convocation,

GDF makes a presentation to staff

encouraging participation in this

program. Among the donors to the

2019-2020 school year program were

Nathan Zeek and Kelly Zeek, music

teachers at LASD.

Kelly and Nathan have taught in

Lewisburg for the past four and three

years, respectively. When asked why

they decided to donate to GDF, they

replied, “GDF plays a huge role in the

ability our district has to provide so

many incredible opportunities for our

students. We love our students and

we love Lewisburg, so it makes

sense for us to make our

contribution!”

Kelly elaborated on her support for

GDF. “GDF has allowed our music

students to have access to many

neat experiences in the classroom.

We were especially excited about

GDF being able to provide every

3rd grader with their own recorder to

keep. Since we both use recorders

in our curriculum, we think it is so

beneficial for their music learning.”

GDF asked the Zeeks if they could

envision additional ways that our

organization could enhance their

students’ education. “We think it

might be interesting to ask the

students if they think anything is

missing or lacking from their music

education at Lewisburg and, if so,

be able to make it happen through

the GDF!”

Every gift, no matter the size, helps

GDF enhance the education of LASD

students. The GDF is very grateful to

all employees who choose to make a

gift through the staff giving program.

Their support is an excellent example

for the entire Lewisburg area

community.

MODEL UN CLUB



PA EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

TAX CREDIT (EITC) PROGRAM

AT LEWISBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

Every gift The Green Dragon Foundation receives through the PA EITC program improves the Lewisburg Area School

District educational experience for our students. During the 2019-2020 school year, funding provided Linntown

students with “Little Bits” magnetic circuitry to teach children hands-on application of circuit construction and how

electricity works. At the Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School, funding helped to purchase LittleBits STEAM

Education Packs for 30 students. These helped to teach fundamentals of robotics, electricity and coding to all

children in 6th grade in an authentic and challenging way. At Lewisburg Area High School, students were able to

participate in the Model United Nations (Model UN) Club. Students attended an Ivy League Model UN Conference

in Philadelphia and engaged with other students from across the state to solve a host of real-life problems in a

simulated United Nations setting. Students were able to display their global thinking skills while gaining valuable

experience before college.“I am really proud of my students and what they have accomplished,” stated Mr. Dakota

Gessner, Club Advisor.


Why We Support GDF

The Green Dragon Foundation has benefited greatly over the last 11 years

from businesses that have made donations through Pennsylvania’s

Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. In 2019-2020 alone,

GDF received $44,500 through the EITC program, augmenting innovative

programs in the Lewisburg Area School District. Northumberland National

Bank, one of the first businesses to contribute through this program, has

continued its involvement for the past 10 years.

When asked why Northumberland National Bank selected GDF as a

recipient of its EITC contributions, Don Steele, Chairman & CEO, replied,

“We are happy to support The Green Dragon Foundation because the bank

supports educational opportunities for students in the districts that are in

our service area.”

The GDF is very grateful for this very generous annual support.

BECOME A PARTNER FOR EDUCATION

The EITC program, administered by the Department of Community & Economic Development, awards tax

credits to eligible businesses that make contributions to educational improvement organizations like The

Green Dragon Foundation. A gift to GDF can provide your company with a substantial tax credit—75 percent

credit (against taxes owed) or, with a written two-year commitment of equal funding, a 90 percent credit.
