Enrichment of
Environmental Sciences
This fund supports district-wide
environmental science education in
a variety of forms, including outdoor
science labs, research/teaching
equipment, field trips, nature trails,
guest speakers and other educational
activities related to this field.
The GDF distributed $924 to help
support the purchase of LittleBits
STEAM Education Packs at the Donald
H. Eichhorn Middle School. This engages
students in STEAM learning by creating
fun inventions, encouraging exploration,
experimentation and creativity. As of
June 30, 2020, the fair market value of
the fund was $11,338.
THE WILLIAM H. AND LILLIAN D. HEINER
Endowment for Literacy Mastery
This fund supports initiatives and opportunities for preschool and elementary
school children to master literacy skills that are essential for success in school and
in life. The fund was created by Lily and Dave Openshaw in memory of Lily’s parents.
During the 2019-2020 school year, GDF fulfilled its three-year commitment with a
gift of $570 to support the Kelly Summer Packs Program. The program extended
learning opportunities throughout the summer for economically disadvantaged, ESL
and other students who may struggle academically. Families received bags with
books, flash cards and other literacy activities to help maintain their children’s skills
over the summer.
As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the fund was $31,034.

support for student-centered
technology needs.

This fund supports high school and
middle school programs that enhance
educational opportunities in business,
economics or entrepreneurism.
As of June 30, 2020, the fair market
value of the fund was $20,290.

FOR STEM PROGRAMS
This endowment provides district-wide support for science, technology,
engineering and math programs. In the 2019-2020 school year, $720 was
distributed to purchase a “Makey-Makey STEM Pack: Classroom Invention
Literacy Kit” for Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School students. These kits
provide a basic circuit board that allows a student to learn to connect
anything with conductive energy to something he/she programs. Creative
computing provides a curriculum structure for the basics of coding, while
specifically encouraging creativity, problem-solving and ingenuity in our
students.
As of June 30, 2020, the fair market value of the fund was $117,161.
