TALE 01:

INTERNET

x

REAL LIFE

Hi Laura! How are you?

In her room, full of books,

stickers and some colorful pillows,

Laura, a 13 year old teenager, was

staring at her cell phone. And to your

surprise, a message appears from a boy

named Gabriel.

Gabriel is from Laura's

classroom at school. They've even done

some work together. He seemed to be

very attentive, in fact, he found Laura

amusing and somewhat different ...

Hi Laura! How are you? I have

been following you on social

media, I see that you have

posted some reflective and

sad phrases.

07

Laura - very surprised - replied:

Hi Gabriel! I posted

these days ... I was kind

of discouraged, you

know? Things in life...

Oh, I really understand... I

have a lot of followers, but

they don't interact with me

very much. I liked your

publications because I found

you very interactive, and

that's really cool.

08

Thanks,

Gabriel!

Laura, remember that we have

a Portuguese job to do?

Of course I remember! Do

you want to do it with

me?

Certainly! Are we going

schedule a video call for this?

I loved the idea! Saturday at 4pm?

Perfect!

09

Laura was thoughtful with that

message, after all, she didn't feel like an

attractive girl, she didn't have many

friends, besides being very shy, and

shameful.

She loved looking at people's photos

on Instagram, and whenever she did,

she felt bad again. It seemed that only

the others had "the perfect life".

10

After a few days, Saturday came. It was 3:47 pm

when Laura looked on her cell phone waiting for

Gabriel's message. She even went to look at his social

networks, because she wanted to know a little more about

the boy. She saw that he had more than 10,000

followers, thousands of travel photos, with so many people

around him, always smiling and in different places. And

she "wished" to have that life, which for her, was perfect.

A few minutes passed, and Gabriel's video call came

up! Laura soon accepts.

11

Hi, Laura! All right?

Hi, Gabriel! I’m good and you?

I’m nice!

12

Laura noticed that Gabriel was a little crestfallen,

ashamed ... and soon starts to cry. Unable to talk about

sobbing, he takes a deep breath, in a short time he starts to

vent.

Laura, I'm sorry! Many things are happening in my life ... my

father is very sick, my sister is going to be a mother at the

age of 15 and my family is very upset, and I am going to

have to leave our school, a place that I like so much for

financial reasons . It's like I'm losing ground, you know?

13

14

Gabriel, I'm sorry for everything that's happening! I already felt

the same as you. I confess that I had another vision of your

life, really. It seemed like everything was perfect, and I

wouldn't have imagined that you were going through all of this

in a dream. I'm here to hear you, to make you feel good, and to

understand that this is not the end. If that consoles you, I

want to vent with you too ... I felt sad these days, because I

don't have almost friends, people don't invite me to parties

and outings. When looking at social media, everyone was

happy, traveling and smiling. That's why I was so sad. But

talking to my parents, they made me understand that there

will always be calm days amid chaos. That the simplicity of

our real life is beautiful too. That love makes everything more

beautiful. And it made me a lot better ...

Laura, thanks for sharing this

with me. I open social media all

the time... It's like an escape for

me, you know? I see so many

happy people all the time, that it's

like only my life is a lie ...

Now I understand that the life

behind social media is

different. No glamor or

happiness all the time. Life is

real. It happens all the time.

With problems and solutions,

and the only thing we must do,

is to conform and accept that

nothing is perfect. What really

matters is being a good

person.

15

Laura, you have no idea how

much I needed to hear this

from someone, in fact, most

people need it too! Life

happens here and now...

Perfection only exists on

social networks.

16

The focus of this story is to show that people have very different lives, Laura did not know about the

wealth she had in her life, because her parents were around, always advising her. In turn, Gabriel, with his

outburst, can see how alone he was, even with so many virtual friends.

Often, looking at social networks makes us think that the lives of others are incredible, without “problems”, where

everything flows in the best way. But bringing this to reality ... It's very different!

This tale is to encourage you to live the world inside you, demonstrating an extraordinary life with gestures, with

sincere moments and with a life that is waking you up every day. And don't forget to be a good person.

17

TALE 02:

THE IMPORTANCE OF

DIALOGUE IN

FINANCIAL EDUCATION

Yasmin, a 15 year old girl, lived with her

mother, as her parents had divorced when she

was very young.

Her father paid the pension monthly, was

very cautious with the laws, and was concerned

with helping Yasmin's education. Her mother

always gave a small amount, which was the

allowance, for her to meet the daily needs.

19

Yasmin was very fond of surfing the

internet, especially on the websites of designer

stores. Although she lacked nothing, she felt

bad, because she always wanted more,

dreamed of having all the fashionable clothes.

20

One day, Yasmin was browsing social

media, when an advertisement appeared with a

dress that she found very beautiful on sale,

seeing the value, realized that it would take

months to get paid. She knew that at some point,

she would need the money, as it was for her daily

expenses, and if she spent all the money, she

would not be able to go to the cinema, or to a

different restaurant with friends ... things she

loved do.

The next day, the girl told her mother about the dress

she had seen on the internet, and the mother said she had no

need to buy it, that she had many beautiful dresses, some that

were not even worn.

Yasmin did not like the answer that her mother gave, she

was not satisfied. She didn't care about the advice, she dreamed

of the dress, every day she entered the designer websites and

fueled her desire to buy. Regardless of what might happen, she

took the attitude of buying a necklace, then a bracelet to match

the earring, the next day a cool blouse ... and she couldn't help

herself, every day it was something different that she bought.

Yasmin was happy when her purchases arrived! However,

she no longer even had money to pay for the bus to go to school.

The young woman realized that she had no more money,

so she decided to ask her mother, and her mother - as expected -

it was strange for her daughter to ask for money, because the

amount she gave in the month was enough to cover the costs.

your daily expenses.

21

But what Yasmin's mother did not know was her

daughter's excessive spending. She arrived late due to the

service, did not witness the purchases arriving at her home.

Then she asked Yasmin what was going on with her allowance.

And she replied:

- Mom ... I had to buy a few things ...

His mother was very angry, and realized that Yasmin

was not having control, he spent more than he could,

forgetting his priorities. The mother realized that she needed

to talk and advise her daughter, she taught Yasmin to be

financially responsible, that's how Yasmin realized that from

that day on, she would have to be organized and manage

her money well.

22

Although he had talked to Yasmin, his mother

decided to give a small punishment, and Yasmin was without

internet for a month, and of course she did not like his

punishment, but realized that she had spent too much, that

she did not need to buy so many things .

After all this, Yasmin understood how difficult it is to get money, and started to spend only with what was necessary,

avoiding looking at e-commerce sites, and even started saving money, so as not to have to go through bad situations

(financially speaking) in the future.

This reading shows us how cautious we should be when it comes to money. We must save, and use it only for what we

need. Unrestrained consumption only leads to one thing: wanting to spend more and more, and being less and less satisfied.

TALE 03:

Life is

a Detail.

Neguinha is a SRD (mixed breed) or mongrel

dog, with long, goose-down, brown hair and an

extremely affectionate look. Neguinha doesn't

have a house or a human. Neguinha never knew

what it is like to have a bed of her own or a

house to call home.

But fortunately, Neguinha knew love. The

love of an entire community. Neguinha is a

community dog that was born on the streets and

today lives in a recycling cooperative.

25

Amanda, a 15 year old girl, in love with animals, has

always spread the respect and importance of their lives in

human existence. He inherited his affection and admiration

from his parents, active participants in the animal cause.

They are part of animal protection associations even

through Facebook, a means by which they can help them in

the daily struggle both in rescuing those who suffer abuse,

as well as in donations of rations, policies to raise

awareness of respect for animal life, as well as surgical

interventions. and medications when they are sick or

involved in accidents.

And, as in all the novels by Manoel Carlos, the nuclei

always find a way to bump into each other. In the case of

Amanda and Neguinha, the meeting was not the happiest.

26

On a rainy Thursday, in mid-September,

when Amanda comes home from school, she

comes across a little dog that had been run

over in the garage of a recycling cooperative on

the same sidewalk where she was hiding from

the raindrops.

Amanda discovered that the poor little

animal lived there, but what really happened?

"..." due to an oversight, one of the company

employees did not see that Neguinha was

under the car - because it is warm and dry.

They love! - and when the man got out with the

car, unfortunately he hurt the puppy. And that

was when Amanda and Neguinha met.

27

Neguinha cried a lot and, even with the

medications prescribed by the veterinarian, she

felt a strong discomfort in her back, causing her

mind-boggling pain. In addition to all the pain,

there was also a lot of difficulty in getting around

and breathing. Amanda, with the help of her

parents and other protectors and godfathers of

the animal cause, managed to ...".

28

Several tests were done, all with great

difficulty. Neguinha felt a lot of pain, even

sedated. The professionals who were taking care

of the puppy had already participated in other

rescues of injured animals and, when managing

their practices, calmed her down and placed her

on a stretcher in a very careful way so that she

would not suffer even more. It was necessary to

give a strong sedative for the dog to endure the

examination.

After a few hours the results came out and,

unfortunately, were not the best. They would bring an answer

that would change the course of everything: Neguinha had

suffered a very complicated fracture and needed emergency

surgery.

All protocols were followed and Amanda, along with

her parents, made an appeal on social networks, motivating

several sponsors to help. Prayers were aimed at Neguinha

and requests were made to São Francisco de Assis. Everyone

who patronized and or became sensitive to Neguinha's story

was distressed and was looking for information about her

condition. It was hours on the operating table and all the

time there, they asked San Francisco to help her and not let

her story come to an end there, in such a sad way.

29

Surgery performed! The fracture was reduced and Neguinha

now had five screws in the column. Reserved prognosis: recovery in

thirty days, but Neguinha probably would not walk again and would

use a wheelchair. But he did the impossible: get off the operating

table. And now the clash of forty-eight hours of gold, as veterinarians

call it, begins. These are the most precious hours after major surgery.

Neguinha came back from anesthesia with a smile on her face,

she even looked grateful. One more fight won! Amanda, at that

moment, wept with happiness and thanks, but asks for her prayers to

continue. Every minute and every positive energy is very important.

Neguinha slept warm and comfortable, in a bed prepared for her.

Wrapped in a clean blanket and away from the cold, rain and hunger.

But São Francisco had other plans for Neguinha, and here, after

receiving so much light, positivity and care, Neguinha went to rest.

He rested and left us to question the fragility of life. Neguinha is

another story of strength and resilience.

30

In memory of Neguinha. October 10, 2020.

“Why do dogs leave and leave us so early? They live less because they

are born knowing how to practice something important in life: love.

They love in a way that we take a lifetime to learn. They are physically

small, but huge in love, something that only they have in their souls by

nature. “

TALE 04:

LET'S TALK

ABOUT, SEX?

Before starting this chapter, we communicate that it should be read differently, as it will talk

about child abuse. Enter the link (or use the QR code) to check some data on the subject:

Three children / teenagers are abused in Brazil every hour.

33

Hi! I'm Lorena and I'm 13 years old. One

day, I was in biology class, getting to know

the human body. When I got home, I told

my mother about the class and she said

she would talk to me about a serious

34

matter.

She came with me to the kitchen table and said:

- Daughter, taking advantage of this "hook", I would

like to talk about your body.

- My body? Mother, the teacher already talks about

it ...

- No, daughter! I will speak in another way and I

want you to listen to me very carefully. We all have

an intimate part that stays here - she said pointing

to a drawing she had seen in the notebook - do you

know why they are intimate?

- I don't know, Mom.

- Because it's yours, just for your use. No one, no

one at all, can see or touch.

- I understand, mother ... but what if a friend of

mine, or a stranger wants to see it?

35

- First, daughter, whoever wants to do

this is not a friend. It is not right. Second,

avoid it! Make excuses. Run! And always

tell me or your dad. Secrets are bad, we

won't fight or get mad at you. We will

always protect you. But NEVER hide from

us if that happens.

- Agreed, mother.

- And another thing, never take nude

pictures and send them to someone.

- But what do they do with the photos,

mom?

36

- They use it for their own benefit. They

are bad people and spread the pictures

for others to see too. Besides, daughter,

there are not only these ways for them to

do bad things.

- Not?

- Not! There is both physical and

psychological abuse. They can hurt us,

make us sad and emotionally shaken.

- Mom, and what needs to be done if

something like this happens?

- We call the police by the 911 and report

it.

37

Thoughtfully, the daughter asked:

- Who are these abusers, mom?

- Anyone, daughter. Even who you trust most ... can be a friend,

a close acquaintance or even someone from your own family.

Daughter, be careful with the things they offer you. If you are a

stranger, do not accept anything! And if you are an

acquaintance, think carefully before accepting. Not candies,

chocolates, or even rides ... all care is still little.

- Thank you for alerting me about this, mom! I love you!

- I love you so much, daughter! I always want your good. Always

remember to help other people by sharing such important

information.

- Leave it, mom! I will do this!

38

To end this chapter, here's a poem on the subject.

Violated Childhood

It was just a child

Who dreamed of being a hero

What I remember

I know how much it hurts

It was just a girl

Who dreamed of being a princess

But who had the sad fate

of being caught helpless

It was so ugly, so disgusting and so vile

Raise my pure and childish eyes

Aim in the face of my senile executioner

Outraged in his miserable devices

Disgusted by his imbecile countenance

Lacy like an unhappy bird

My purity was gone before ever so soon

Who came out in my defense?

Only guilt and fear remained

Shame and sadness

Today shape my plot

There was no one to tell

No one would listen to me

Who else can I count on if even

I doubt myself?

And if I wanted to avoid it,

wouldn't it have happened?

Was there guilt in me for such a dismal attitude?

If there is, say yes, pretend to deceive me

No flowers in my garden

Thorns made me rude

My thirst has no end

There was no water in my pond

Who knows even so In a flash of virtue

Before the end something happens

and everything changes?

And realize until finally

That I resisted as long as

I could
