Our Mission is to serve God by providing a challenging academic education rooted in Catholic values
and morals in developing the whole person.
Dividends for Life - faith, morals,
discipline, knowledge
“When you invest in Catholic education, the return on
your investment comes not only in college scholarships
or career success, but in being an invaluable
contributor to your society.” - Jeff & Judi Stokes

Financial Assistance
Financial Aid is made possible with generous contributions from parents, alumni, businesses, foundations
and other private benefactors as well as through the State of Utah. Below are a few of the sources of funds.
Your application for financial assistance will determine your eligibility for these funds. For more financial
aid information, contact the Finance Office, 801-984-7665, RuthFitzpatrick@skaggscatholiccenter.org.
Need-Based Assistance
More than 42% of our students receive some type of assistance,
ensuring socio-economic diversity. Financial assistance is based
on demonstrated need. The process starts with a FACTS Grant
& Aid Assessment application, including a confidential disclosure
of certain financial and circumstantial information, and last year’s
IRS tax return. An overall analysis is performed through an
independent review. The review takes into consideration not only
income and assets, but also a multitude of family factors, e.g., job
status, marital status, number of dependents, number of tuitionpaying
children, medical expenses, health, significant family
status changes, and life style choices, etc.
Carson Smith Scholarship
The Carson Smith Scholarship is a special needs scholarship
program funded by the State of Utah. This program provides
scholarships to qualified students with specific learning disabilities,
traumatic brain injuries and other health impairments. Once
assessed and approved, a student is eligible to receive assistance
for a three-year term. This scholarship is renewable. The current
funding level varies from $3,865 to $6,442 per year. To participate
in the program, students must meet eligibility requirements
established by Utah Law and by the State Board of Education. For
questions and application information, contact Susan McNulty at
801-984-7636 or SusanMcNulty@jdchs.org.
Funding Sources
The Advancement Office secures funding through campaigns,
grants and endowments. Questions about contributing to a
scholarship fund or creating an endowment may be directed to
Molly Dumas, Director of Institutional Advancement, 801-984-
7604 or MollyDumas@jdchs.org.
Annual Fund
Each year, more than $200,000 is raised to enhance academic
programs and award students who demonstrate the greatest
need. To learn more, visit http://annualfund.jdchs.org.
Endowment and Scholarship Funds
Several families have set up restricted funds at the Catholic
Foundation of Utah dedicated to aiding Juan Diego students on
a sliding scale. The principle is never touched, but the income
generated through investments provides financial assistance.
Some of these endowment funds specify that the student must
maintain academic proficiency, demonstrate service to their
community, and/or be a practicing Catholic or enrolled in an
extracurricular program.
“There is a seat at the table for everyone.”
Academics
Academic Rigor… Every student attends full-time, is challenged with a rigorous array of courses,
volunteer service opportunities, and social experiences to prepare for higher education, the workplace,
and life in a global society.
Graduation Requirements
A minimum of 29 credits, a record of completed volunteer service
hours, and a passing grade in all required subjects, including four
years of theology, are necessary to receive a diploma. Core curriculum
is integrated with state-of-the-art technology, which allows for both
student instruction and parental oversight of student progress. Student
proficiency is evidenced by ACT, SAT and AP test scores, acceptance
into more than 300 renowned colleges and universities, and awards of
merit and scholarship. Typically, the middle 50% of students taking the
SAT have Critical Reading scores from 470-600, and math scores from
440-570. Composite ACT scores range from 21-27 for the middle 50%
of students tested. Most students take at least one of 39 AP, Honors and
Concurrent Enrollment courses through Salt Lake Community College,
Utah Valley University and/or Westminster University.
Student Life
The spiritual, intellectual, physical and social formation of students is visible in every aspect of school
life. Teaching techniques, coaching practices, student activities and experiences are developed using three
fundamental Catholic tenets: community, faith development and learning.
Faith Development
All faiths are embraced. Students participate in theological and
humanitarian experiences to help them develop spiritually. All-school
Mass is scheduled regularly, and on special occasions or Holy Days.
Prayer services are part of theological study and pre-competition
preparation. Each class participates in an annual retreat. Students are
encouraged to actively participate in the various components of campus
ministry. Following Christ’s example, every student is required to serve
their community with a minimum 25 volunteer hours each year. Since
1999, students have logged more than 264,369 hours of service to their
school, community and charity. Many participate in mission work in their
respective churches or abroad. In addition, the student body embraces
annual works of charity: food drives for the Utah Food Bank, Christmas
box collections for families in need, fund raising for developing countries
and/or disaster relief, and environmental stewardship.
Saint Katharine Drexel Program
The Saint Katharine Drexel Program is in place to support freshman
and sophomore students in their transition from their respective middle
schools to Juan Diego Catholic High School. The program provides
instruction in different learning strategies as well as academic assistance
in English, math and science. Students primarily qualify for this program
by recommendations from their previous middle school teachers.
Students may also qualify for the program as a result of low placement
exam scores, or past academic struggles. Students and parents/
guardians interested in enrolling in the Drexel Program must set up an
appointment with their counselor and/or school administrator to discuss
their student’s specific needs.
Community
Juan Diego Catholic High School offers a wide variety of extracurricular
activities for students because they are an essential part of human
development. Involvement in activities allows students to develop their
God-given talents, enhances self-esteem, provides opportunities for
student friendships, makes school life more enjoyable, increases student
commitment to school, and results in better grades and deportment.
Examples of extracurricular sports and activities offered at the high
school include:
Yearbook
“Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose. From
the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: That we are here for the sake of
others...for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy.”
- Albert Einstein
