CITY PARKSThe city of Sioux Center is home tomany parks, including Central Park,Children’s Park, Country Fields, CountryView Park, Crown Pointe Vernon Park,Open Space Park, Regency Park, RidgePark, Sunrise Trails Park, Tower Fieldsand Westside Park.They have shelters for picnics, gamesand get-togethers. Open shelters areavailable to the public and enclosedshelters can be reserved for a fee bycalling the city offices at 712-722-0761.The open shelters are available free on afirst-come, first-served basis.The lighted courts and fields are openfrom dawn until 11 p.m. and no alcoholis to be consumed in any of the parkareas. No pets are allowed in ball fields.SANDY HOLLOWRECREATION AREAThis 116-acre area, managed by theSioux County Conservation Boardsince 2014, has a campground, swimmingbeach, fishing/boat access andhiking trails. There are also open airpicnic shelters available, along with anenclosed rental facility. New prairie hasbeen planted in a portion of the parkoffering up a hiking trail system. Thearea is also attached to the city of SiouxCenter’s paved walking/biking trail.Park hours are 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m. yearround. A park pass is required for eachvehicle at $5 a day or $20 for an annualpass. Additional passes per family are$10 each and must be purchased thatsame day. Passes will be good at SandyHollow and the Big Sioux RecreationArea (near Hawarden).For more information, call 712-722-2491 or 712-552-1047.Also unique to this area is the outdoorarchery range and indoor archery rangeavailable with membership. A 2.9-mile paved “spine” trail runsfrom 20th Street Southeast to12th Street Northeast. A trailextension also runs from theintersection of 20th StreetSoutheast and Third AvenueNortheast to Regency Park,past the KSOU property.A 3,080-foot loop starts atthe southwest corner of VernonPark, near the intersectionof 16th Street Southeastand Seventh Avenue Southeast.The 10-foot-wide trailcurves around the east side ofSioux Center Health’s CrownPointe and Royale Meadows,then heads west to reconnectwith Seventh Avenue Southeast.The loop features viewsof a landscaped garden spacenear Crown Pointe and hasconnections to Crown Pointeand Royal Meadows so residentshave trail access.The latest expansioninvolved adding a threetenthsof a mile segment pastthe Sioux Center Health pondgoing south to a coveredbridge adjacent to the WoodbridgeDevelopment. Futureplans involved connectingthis paved portion to the trailby Crown Pointe.The trail system alsoincludes a 3.2-mile segmentthat connects to the SandyHollow Recreation Area eastof Sioux Center.TRAILS COUNCILThe Sioux Center TrailsCouncil began in 2012 topromote safe biking andexpanded opportunities forbiking, walking, jogging andother trail activities in theSioux Center area.
