Beginning with a simple roundStyrofoam ball, she creates a one of a kindornament in various styles and colors. Thetypical size she makes uses approximately200 pins, sequins, pearls, or beads and ribbonand takes about 2-3 hours to complete. Carolsaid she doesn’t have a certain style in mindfor most ornaments. She just begins and seeswhere it goes. She admits, “It is therapeutic forme.” Laughing as she remembered just howtherapeutic it can be, she recalled that onceboredom set in at the beginning of thecoronavirus pandemic, she sat down andbefore she realized, had made 54 ornaments.Being in a career ofconducting communicationfor hospitals, she has metpeople from near and far.She has hand-crafted andgifted ornaments to manycustomers across thecountry to make theirholidays a little more special. “Customerswill text me out of the blue when they gettheir ornaments out–as they’re decorating forChristmas–and text that they are thinking ofme,” she said.Although she enjoys the traditional colorsfor herself for the six Christmas trees sheplaces in her own home each season, shehandcrafts her ornaments to suit what otherslike as well to match their home décor orholiday style. Her favorite style to make is herversion of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.“They are so fun with their googly eyes,” shesaid. And in the South, we cannot forgetabout the football rivalries.
