Which were these?Miss Regal International SouthAfrica worked alongside POWA(people opposing womenabuse), a “feminist, women’srights organisation that providesboth services, and engages inadvocacy in order to ensure therealisation of women’s rights andthereby improve women’s qualityof life”. Woman and child abusehas always been something reallyclose to my heart and personal tome, and Miss Regal InternationalSouth Africa provided a platformthrough which I was able to tapinto and advocate for the rights ofwomen and children. This remainsso pertinent in our communities.For many years I did ballet andcontemporary and decidedto use this as a tool to createawareness about these socialills. I created a Dance4Justicecampaign in which I expressedthe story of abuse through dancein hopes of creating awarenessand sparking the necessaryconversations needed to be had.Although a title comes withgreat responsibility, did you winany awesome prizes?Yes, I did! The biggest prize Iwould say I received was beingable to represent South Africaon an international stage inJinan, China. The internationalcompetition happened overa 3-week period and this wasamazing as I was grantedthe opportunity to meet somany individuals from differentfacets of life. I also received anendless amount of Essencemakeup supplies to have melooking fabulous at every event Iattended.When did your career as aprofessional model begin?I am actually not officiallysigned to a modelling agency;however, beauty pageantry andmodelling do coincide. Therewere many beauty pageantryinstances where I had to catwalkand strut my stuff across thestage – something I actuallynever ever envisioned myselfdoing! Beauty pageantry startedin a very informal and casualway. In my first year of UniversityI was voted by my peers to bea part of the annual residence‘Miss Curelitzia’ competition andcoincidentally won. I really lovedhow the experience made mefeel – bold, strong and confidentin the things that I believed in. Itwas from here that I decided to28 | Crawford Times
