Pictures and clips from past personnel and stories plus new staff 01 09/10/1995 The story of a group of women who talk about their personal situations in life through a theatre presentation. The goal is educating the general public about family violence. Roles are based on the players personal memories and experiences. Producer Jeff Dorn spent a few months with the troop, recording their performances and interviewing the players. 01 09/10/1995 Aurora Awards, the Yukon version of the Academy Awards honoring Yukon's top visual and music performers. Pictures of performances at the Art's Centre. On-camera appearances include, Jayne West, Bob Charlie, Grant Simpson, Matthew Lien, Mabel Johnston, Sundog, Sharon Shorty, Inconnu and P.J. Johnson. "The spirit, strong and brave" was this years theme. This doc. shows the ceremonies involved; athletes in action, and the cultural events. Producer, Jeff Dorn interviews athletes from the Yukon, other parts of Canada and the U.S. This program was broadcast nationally on CBC Newsworld and TSN. 04 30/10/1995 Producer, Joanne Henry, shows the huge challenges faced by teenage parents in the Yukon. These young single moms are trying to raise their children as well as struggling to complete their high school education. The story shows how the Teen Parent Centre in Whitehorse is helping young mothers meet their goals. Pictures and interviews at the Centre as well as some of the teens in this situation. 04 30/10/1995 This music video is based on a song by Wilbert Kendi, "Thank you Mother Earth". The song lyrics talk about the respect for mother-earth and the way Wilbert's ancestors showed that respect and understanding while passing on this information to his parents and now to him. Excellent pictures and music, primarily of caribou in northern Yukon and Gwichin people. This video was used by the Porcupine Caribou Management Board to show to people in U.S. the importance of protecting this land and its animals. The PCMB is continuing its efforts to stop oil and gas development in the caribou's main calving ground on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. 05 06/11/1995 Yukon's 14 First Nations held their annual GA in Dawson City to discuss on-going land claims talks; implmentation of final agreements/self government; the future of CYI and its role with the individual bands. Various pictures of assembly meetings with clips and interviews with most of the chiefs. At this meeting CYI changed its name to the Council for Yukon First Nations. The Kwanlin Dun First Nation and the Kaska nation, represented by Ross River and Liard decided they won't join the new central government body. Producer is Joanne Henry. 06 13/11/1995 This is a special look at the cultural activities that occured during the North American Indigenous Games this summmer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pictures include the cultural performances on the main stage from Yukon, Alaskan, NWT and other American First Nation groups, plus interviews with performers and officials about the true meaning of the games...which is pride in heritage as well as the athletic events involved.
