“Choosing Duke School for my son Linus (and soon his
brother Peter) was one of the easiest choices I have ever
made. I feel so lucky to see him thriving at the same school
that gave me so much of my start in life. When I remember
my own time at Duke School, I remember teachers who
made me feel like I was special, who opened my eyes to
the breadth of the world, nurtured my love of stories, my
love of science, and helped me learn how to share and
be kind to others. And more than that, Duke School was a
community of safety, caring and vision, and it still is today.
Things about the school have changed, and the buildings
are different, but the fiber of the place—a progressive
school where gifted teachers nurture the good in each
individual child—remains the same. Duke School is a place
that recognizes that a school is not an amalgam of outcomes and test scores. It's a deeply
philosophical project, to raise the next generations of thinkers, leaders, and upstanders. The
project continues.”
“I spent 10 years at Duke School through eighth grade
graduation. This time shaped much of who I am today. Duke
School encouraged a love of learning, an ability to critically
and creatively solve any problem and a pride in being a
well-rounded, whole person. Even more important is how
Duke School teaches these values. The process is truly a
community effort, where students, teachers and parents
work together to achieve their goals: to learn by doing, to
have fun together while learning and to encourage each
other to be the best possible people we can be.
Why would you not want your children to be part of the
Duke School community?”
~Benjamin Edell, Duke School Class of 1995
