In addition to being pervasiveguardians of the grain room from maraudingmice, barn cats make a visit to the barn thatmuch more special. They endearingly greetyou with vocal machinations of "hmmmm ''or a stout "meow" or murmured "yaw-oh"whether your status at the barn is Gran Prixcompetitor or intro-level working student.Some barn cats send salutations from thebarn roof, like Daisy would, her meows insistingthat you rescue her. Of course, shewould be on terra firma when you came withthe ladder. Every single time. Unless you didnot try to save her from the height. ThenDaisy would remain perched until one of theevening lesson riders would mention: "Thereis a cat stuck on the roof". The svelte Daisywould graciously await her saving and thenshe would demurely present herself as shetraversed the barn aisle.Then there was the tack room self-cloisteredSage Queen, a white and grey pintolong hair that had the skills of a Cirque duSoleil trapeze artist. She effortlessly wouldleap from saddle locker top to top in the tackroom with her full-tail plumage gracefullysteadying her acrobatics. Sage could frequentlybe found curled atop the refrigerator,toward the back part of it, where shecould steal the warm updraft from the appliance'scondensers.And Blackie. He, with his massive doubledoublepaws, and his head resembling thatof a polar bear. He simply terrorizedeveryone except the elderly owner of thebarn. Blackie swooned into being a Buddhistwhen carried in the man's gentle arms. TheBig Tom would purr constantly whilst touringthe many horses' stalls, gently touching thenewest foal's nose with his own while theman talked with his prize broodmare.Barn cat charm component:Memory creator.Barn cats add durability to an equine facilityproviding an omnipresent comfort and aserene robustness. For thousands of yearsand in every country, barn cats are an integralcomponent of an equestrians' life.The writer has experienced the enforcementof barn cat etiquette and the formalitiesof royal greetings.
