next few months we here at MRW have been
tasked with helping promote and expose the
brand to the market through our print and digital
mags plus all our social media platforms.
Hero MotorCorp is the brand I have been
blabbing on about and just like me, you’d
probably know them best as Hero Honda from
back in the day. That was when they were
building small capacity bikes for Honda and
selling millions helping make the Japanese
brand the biggest selling motorcycle brand in
the world for many years. But, Hero MotorCorp
soon realised that they could do it all themselves
and take what they have learnt from Honda and
produce affordable, fuel-efficient motorcycles
for the world to enjoy.
Fast Forward to 2021 and finally the brand is
here in SA with 4 models making their way into
the market. We start here with the X Pulse 200 T
model and will be highlighting the other models
in the coming months.
As mentioned, affordable and fuel-efficient are
keywords used when making Hero motorcycles
and this was very apparent from the word go
with the X Pulse 200 T. Build quality is great, for
a small capacity motorcycle made in India. You
can tell they have taken what they learnt from
building for a giant brand like Honda. Nothing
too fancy or spectacular, just nice and neat and
finished well all around.
Value-for-money was another phrase that
popped up when chatting to the crew from Hero
SA and I can’t argue with them when it comes
to the X Pulse 200 T. Priced at only R37,999,
you get a 200cc single 4-stroke, fuel-injected
machine that produces a nippy 18hp and 17Nm
of torque along with disc brakes front and rear
- one’s that actually work - 37 mm telescopic
front forks and a 7-step preload-adjustable
monoshock. Electric start, along with kick start
for those flat battery days, LED lights front and
rear and a decent little TFT dash that displays
more info than most modern-day sportbikes.
Like they said, proper value-for-money!
We are all looking for
something positive heading
into 2021, except for COVID,
and it might just be in the form
of a HERO, not with a cape, but
one with a 200cc engine.
It’s a brand new year and there is a brand new
motorcycle brand making its way into the SA market
- and it just happens to be the biggest selling twowheeled
motorcycle brand in the world. Over 90
million units sold to date, 5 million alone in 2020 -
remember that kak year? Not so kak for this brand
who was voted the Manufacturing Innovator of the
Year 2016 by Time Magazine.
It has been a long process getting this brand into
the country but it has finally arrived and over the
