The

ATTAINMENT

SSometimes you have to stop and thank the heavens for your life blessings.

The year 2020 has been a trying year for all of us. I think it’s safe to say that

instead of yelling Happy New Year, we should all be screaming JUMANJI!

Think about it for one second, losing Kobe Bryant and Chadwick Boseman

were probably the most shocking tragedies we’ve endured, natural disasters

did not spare us, we’ve had an historic election and nor can we forget a global

pandemic. The magazine was supposed to launch in California and in New

York but unfortunately had to come to a complete halt because COVID-19.

Though I can say that I’m extremely happy that my team is safe and healthy,

my heart goes out to all that have lost loved ones to this virus and hope the

year 2021 will bring us good fortune.

With this said, I want to say that we are more than happy to have a wellrounded

artist on her way to stardom gracing our cover this time around,

Lisa Yaro. Her inspiring and uplifting story is one for the books.

The outpour of submissions of artists for this issue was certainly

overwhelming. They came from all over the world. Particularly Serg

Garkus, a photographer from Ukraine, now living in Poland, whose hunger

for success is admirable. We are honored to feature him in our Who’s who

section of people you need to know.

Moreover, we are happy to have celebrated our 40th issue in a very unique

manner and feel grateful that you continue to support us in our climb to our

50th due in two years.

Our contributors are the backbone of this issue and for this we are ever so

grateful. We would like to extend our congratulations to our columnist Toni

Douglas for publishing her first book “Controlling Your Crazy While

Dating Your Non-Existent Boyfriend”. She has labored for 7 long years

and we would like to celebrate with her as she launches her book physically

and virtually.

We present to you our labor of love for the 41st time. Enjoy!

Now we are confronting Corona.

People are worried about the economic downturn.

But I think we came at the dawn of a new era.

We can’t just think about ourselves.

The world is connected.

New things and innovations are great.

But we need the courage to look back, not just in front.

The Gifted Hands of

ADI

KRAUS

Wise men may have few

words to say but their

actions speak volume. Adi

Kraus is certainly one of

them, Architect by trade,

though he has stopped

practicing a decade ago,

Adi is a great with his

hands, not only does he

sculpt but also creates

every day items that you

would find in your home.

However today the focus is

on his sculptures

II was always intrigued

by the human body and

the way skin, muscles

and bones create these

amazing continuous

curves and shapes.

I have learned that there is a whole world of beauty beyond the

cultural and sexual connotations of a naked body. My intention

was always to capture that beauty and the way it reflects subtle

gestures and emotions.

For 20 years my art pieces were figurative nude. Trying to touch

the true nature of that beauty I always started with clay, because

of the way wet clay resembles the human skin.

In recent years, social networks changed the way we communicate

and visually present ourselves to others. Our virtual world became

a competitive stage where many try to look happier and more

glorious than they really are, sharing their life experience through

staged filtered images, presenting only visual fake masks of how

they want others to see them.

Since 2016 I have been investigating different approaches to the

representation of those masks while still using clay as a medium

for the base piece, so it all starts with a genuine sculpture.

SUNBATHING

His process though seeming simple, may

be complicated for the inexperienced.

first he makes a clay figure of his live

model or a picture or perhaps derived

from pure imagination, then using a

unique invented method, the clay

sculpture is transformed into a

polyurethane wires piece that is then

painted and placed on a canvas.

Capturing the human form at its most

primitive state, his work is to be admired.

From Public to

MARGARET

ZOX BROWN

VISUAL ART | Margaret Zox Brown

As her primary means of connecting with the

world, Zox Brown says that her body of work is

for everyone to relate to easily. In her own

words, creating artwork that is

representational and recognizable, the artist is

an expressionist oil painter, painting authentic

feelings and connections that anyone can

identify with. Describing her artwork as a

dialogue between herself and the world, Zox

Brown looks to channel the noise and

normalities of life into a space of figurative

intimacy.

“My work is an exploration of encounters: the

people I interact with, familiar and stranger

alike, as well as the exceptional aspects that

define my New York experiences, with the

intention of creating shared ground rooted in

art and love. This collaborative process

between technique and intuition is where I find

the most richness as an artist,” she writes.

Pre-COVID-19, Zox Brown was working on a

series of ordinary New York characters whose

spirit and shared connection she was

38 | CREATIV | Nov - Dec 2020 | www.creativmag.com

celebrating through canvas and color. In some

cases, she’d only met her subject once during a

brief encounter or conversation. The starting

point of this series: noting the generosity and

excitement of her regular waiter at her favorite

restaurant in the city. This so-called portrait

generated awareness of the people who crossed

the painter’s path and her love of NYC for its

culture of connection – a profound experience

regardless of the person or place.

With the global pandemic forcing the city inside

and the implementation of social distancing,

the oil painter turned inward and started a

series called The Lockdown Paintings.

Offering the same sense of appreciation for

community, she describes this project with the

tagline: There’s no place like home. As a result

of the virus directly impacting her accessibility

to the public, The Lockdown Paintings

presents the simple and beautiful moments

she’s found during this unique time – that we’re

all experiencing.

Moving forward, with the pandemic still a strong

presence across the world, Zox Brown will continue

to expand The Lockdown Paintings. As far as

subject matter, the painter will wait to discover and

navigate future experiences (and challenges) on

both a social and personal level. With the increase

of digitalization and re-structing of business

models and opportunities, many galleries and

institutions will have to add to their physical

presence. Whether displaying her art in-gallery or

online, Zox Brown would like the viewer to walk

away from this series with a sense of “we are all in

this together”.

Having moved all of her tools and materials to a

makeshift studio and shifted her approach, Zox

Brown states that while her creative process has

evolved throughout the years, it’s transformed most

dramatically during quarantine life. Originally, she’d

select a particularly strong drawing to turn into a

painting and consider the viewer for a single reason:

to guide him or her through the journey of the canvas.

Presently, she chooses a feeling or mood to express

and share, creates a sketch to unearth the meaning

she wants to visually convey and applies a layered

approach to both color and form to finally

communicate her emotion. The style, shape and

placement of each and every mark is intentional. As

opposed to titling the pieces in this series, the artist

is dating each painting in order to serve as a diary

and remember her emotional state when looking

back at this time. Similar to Margaret’s life, her art

has shifted during COVID-19.

“[The Lockdown Paintings highlights the true

beauty found in life at home, which is the natural

trajectory for me as an artist. While I was painting

the true beauty found in what I experienced

externally, culminating in New York Characters,

which reveals an appreciation for community, I am

now painting the shared beauty we all have while

isolating at home.

Our worlds have become smaller, but because we are

all experiencing this same thing, our homes are

actually much bigger. I am reaching out to the world,

to the community by showing what I have found to

be so beautiful in our very familiar moments. The

internal, while personal, is also a connection to a

shared, community experience. And by making these

paintings to be understood by all, I am most definitely

painting with my viewer in mind,]” she explains.

Actress, singer, songwriter, activist and

philanthropist, all the attributes that define

the beautiful Nigerian native Lisa Yaro. It was

indeed a delight to have a chat with her and

discovering the exciting side of her life story.

Lisa arrived in the United States when she

was only about 10 years of age, like any

traditional African or Caribbean parent, they

already have determined what your future

will look like…Lawyer, Doctor or Engineer..

pick one!!! Surprisingly, Lisa had her heart

set on being a doctor " Going through school,

it was weird because I was the nerd but I was

the jock, and I was also the class clown.” Lisa’s

personality stood out and made her

unforgettable wherever she went.

Though being gifted intellectually, she was

an athlete that excelled in track, basketball,

and volleyball. The latter landed her a

scholarship to play in college, unfortunately

due to her tearing her ACL and shattering her

meniscus, her scholarship was on the line. “.

It's interesting though, God never does things

without a reason.” When one door closes a

better one opens.

Though she has been writing at a very young

age, She found her love for the arts through

poetry, she would consequently sit at

numerous studio sessions where she fell in

love with music and decided she would

pursue this field to become a songwriter. The

minute she decided to pursue music, though

she was received with a little resistance when

she broke the news to her family, she felt it

was the best decision she could have ever

taken. Being a woman of faith, this allowed

her to start an organization called Industry

for God benefiting the less fortunate.

“We would go out and feed the homeless. My

big picture idea for this is to have a bunch of

different artists throw concerts or events, and

all proceeds go to just strictly trying to help out

different cities and people in need. God has that

in mind for me to do. Those are big goal pictures.

All these little things are just steppingstones. I

am okay with making people uncomfortable

sharing my love for God. That's fine. I'm going

to stand in my truth.”

2017, she continued to push her efforts in

becoming the star he saw in her. Growing up in

the States and having to overcome having an

accent and being teased as a child, she shied

away from stardom, however her courage and

determination brought her to find her voice and

own style. She found her audience and just ran

with it.

Lisa being a strong and determined woman,

surely paid her dues to the music industry. She

would continue to write songs hoping that her

work would get picked up by a famous artist.

Sometimes you just need that one person to

take you to the next level. However, in this

business there are no guarantees. A record can

go as far as being picked up and recorded yet

would not be selected for an album.

Subsequently this would result in the writer not

being paid. These are lessons learned through

trial and error. But Lisa recounts:“I'm glad that

I went through those obstacles and those

experiences because the person that I am now,

shall not be tried today.”

I don’t want to call this sheer luck, but when

you position yourself in certain situations, that

little bit of luck can turn things around very

quickly. In wanting to pursue acting she had

the opportunity of being in the audience of Dr

Phil, or Judges shows in California. “I was that

enthusiastic member of the audience that was

like, "Oh yeah, whohoooo." I was spelling it.”

LOL. It is safe to say that acting was already

part of her. Having to experience theater in

college, she even caught the eye of film director

Russ Parr during the filming of Something Like

a Business in 2010 starring Kevin Hart, she

even had a few lines recorded even though they

were cut at the final release of the movie.

Though acting was fun, she continued to pursue

her music career knowing how much she has

sacrificed to get there. They usually say that it

takes 10 years to create an overnight sensation.

Well after 10 years of consistent work she

received a Grammy nomination for her work

with the singer Mya as her songwriter, and

made it on the Billboard charts even beating

Taylor Swift.

Listening to her story I can truly say that I can

relate. Having to lose her brother to Cancer in

2020 has proven to be a tough year for everyone,

nevertheless it may have been a blessing for

some. Lisa had the opportunity to travel to

Nigeria and work with some prominent names

in the industry. Upon her return, COVID

happened and all her plans came to a halt. But

God certainly works in mysterious ways, it may

have been a blessing in disguise. The plan was

to release her recent single in April of this year.

Alas, it could be the worse feeling when you

know the marketing company that is supposed

to work on your behalf left you the wolves.

Fortunately, with a little patience she was able

to acquire a team of hard-working individuals

who made the release of her latest single

happen. Leaving AWOL and signing with

Empire Distribution was probably the best

move for her career. Marketing were heavily

done in Nigeria, Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, and the

UK. For Lisa, this was her biggest investment.

Amassing nearly two hundred thousand views

on YouTube alone we can confidently say that

her hard work has paid off.

www.creativmag.com | Nov - Dec 2020 | CREATIV | 51

COVER STORY | Lisa Yaro

Her future is certainly looking

brighter by the second, she had the

opportunity to be featured in an

upcoming film starring Vanessa

Hudgens. Though she may not be

able to release any information

about it just yet, we can expect

nothing but excellence coming from

such talent. Lisa is a fighter, just

through her work alone you can tell

she has battle scars and could write

a book about it if she wanted to. Her

motto is Stay Within Your Vision.

Many a times she has encountered

difficulties and hurtles, such

disappointing managers or perhaps

expectations not met from people

she may have trusted, but she didn’t

let these obstacles deter her from

her ultimate goal. “I'm doing the

work, and I'm holding the tape, I'm

just letting God put the pieces

together.” Holding on to her faith

may have been the ultimate factor

in her walk towards stardom.

Though faced with indecent

proposals, the key was to continue

to walk with her head held high and

her integrity intact. If we could learn

anything in this moment it should

be this. Your respect and integrity

are the highest form of currency you

will ever hold in any walk of life.

Life in the public eye does not come worry free. When

creating her fame on social media, she was not without

criticism from her fans or perhaps her “haters.” From

being judged about what kind of clothes she wears,

to the shape of her body and even the color of her

skin, the ones with an opinion were always ready to

offer theirs. For this reason alone she had come to the

conclusion that she needed to offer some positive

reinforcement, she plans on opening an organization

or perhaps starting a movement called Love Yourself

coincidently deriving from the initials of her logo LY.

With this in mind she plans on campaigning heavily

about self-love and positivity as we all know the world

needs it.

In her words we would like to leave you with her

last thoughts:

Don't be afraid to go for what you want. Don't be afraid

to follow your dreams, no matter how ridiculous or how

out of reach it might seem to other people. If that's what

you want to do, find ways to accomplish it. Do the work.

No one's saying you have to be that tomorrow. You work

towards that. And don't let the opinions of other people

stray you from your goals. Because everyone has opinions,

and those who have the loudest opinions are the ones who

are doing nothing with their lives. Instead of letting

opinions outside affect you on the inside, you have to know

this is what you want. And no one can to tell you otherwise.

But you also have to put the work into it, and you're going

to have to make the sacrifices you need to get there. Do

the work. There's nothing you can't accomplish. If you do

the research, you'll do everything you can to achieve that

goal, it's going to come. It's just a law, the natural law.

It's just going to come to you. The power of God will attract

it all to you. You can't just sit on the couch and expect it

to fall from the sky if you're not doing the work. Go for

your dreams, do the work, and don't let the pickings of

others stray you from that.

The year 2020 has been a roller coaster for all of us.

Despite the hurdles we are compelled to continue on

with our lives. In the summer Paraiso put on a

wonderful show all while following CDC guidelines.

Due to its success they followed up with their regularly

Fall show.

On Saturday, November 14th, 2020, Paraiso Miami

Beach presented Destination Colombia: The most

promising names on the new creative Colombian

fashion scene and their Spring/Summer 2021

collections at Paradise Plaza in the Miami Design

District.

The project showcased 12 Colombian designers and

featured established brands such as OndadeMar,

Verdelimon, and Encantadore, but also new rising stars

in the swimwear and resort wear industry including

Palmacea, Mola Mola, Ancora, Carolina Estefan, Estivo,

Corpo, Praia, Nawa, and Mar de Rosas.

In the spirit of new normal, the swimwear and resort

wear enthusiasts watched fashion show live through

Stitch Lab, the luxury online retail space for

Colombian fashion hosted a media reception serving

delicious mimosas by Miami Cocktail Company.

Silvia Cobos and Jetlagmode accessorized the show

with shoes, bags and accessories all made using

sustainable handmade techniques, while Junior &

Hatter Wynwood’s stylish salon and its most sought

after stylists created the runway hair looks.

DESTINATION Colombia was the first in the

series of curated projects between PARAISO

Miami Beach, the leading event for the

swimwear industry, widely known as swim

week, and Colombian government agency

Procolombia.

“DESTINATION Colombia is one of PARAISO

Miami Beach leading initiatives for creating

new business opportunities for the Colombian

brands in the US market, and it opens a window

to a brand new way of connecting these brands

with both media and industry audience.”

- Natalija Dedic Stojanovic, Creative Director

of PARAISO Miami Beach.

Quality and innovation are the two features that make

Colombian fashion so widely known in the world. Thanks

to the quantity and quality of Colombian designers, and

the raw materials produced in the country, the national

fashion industry has achieved its own identity, which very

few textile and clothing producing countries manage to

achieve.

Nigeria needs our unwavering support. Since

October, there has been a peaceful uprising by the

Nigerian youth in my home country, demanding

for the disbandment of the notorious Special Anti-

Robbery Squad (known as SARS unit) and the end

to police brutality and an unjust judicial system.

- Lisa Yaro

For many years, there has been a public outcry

regarding the predatory harassment,

intimidation, physical and sexual violence from

the SARS unit of the Nigerian police force. For

many years, the Nigerian government has

promised the reform of this unit, but their inaction

has led to a reign of terror that has resulted in the

loss of the lives of many innocent Nigerians.

Despite the assurance of changes and the

announcements of the disbandment of SARS by

the relevant authorities, the peaceful protests have

continued to be derailed by marked police violence

and unlawful arrests. I along with my fellow

Nigerians all around the world stand with the

Nigerian youth, and as a body we demand the

complete disbandment of SARS/ SWAT, and a total

police reform to end the harassment, intimidation

and physical & sexual violence faced by millions

of Nigerian men and women. We demand a system

that is fair, transparent, and accountable to ALL

Nigerian citizens. Praying for Nigeria, praying for

my people.

SERG

GARKUS

Self-taught photographer. Born in 1979 in Ukraine. Since 2014 living in Kraków

(Poland).

Pure. Almost an unreal world with perfect lines and

sophisticated silhouettes resembling computergenerated

graphics. Where the character seems to be

a creature from another universe and does not

exclusively belong to either the physical or virtual

reality. Sometimes she dissolves in location like a

futuristic cyber chameleon that sometimes tries to

overcome the limits of the body and the place but still

looks too artificial to be human.

RENDERED

WORLD

Later, when cable TV became available,

I could watch fashion channels and

programs about photo shoots all day

long.

In 2009 I started to work as a

photojournalist and the adventure

began.

What would you call your style

of photography?

If we compare photography with music,

it would be a crossover - non-stop

experiment, a combination of seemingly

incompatible things to find a new sound.

In my works I pay a lot of attention to

light, color, geometry and emotions.

Even before I go to a photo shoot, I need

to have a clear picture in my head of

things I want to get as a result. Of course,

not everything always goes smoothly, but

improvisation is also an element of

experiment.

We love discovering talent

from outside our borders,

and we have to say that we

are undeniably impressed

with Serg Garkus’ work. His

editorial depicted a bit of a

futuristic touch in the

fashion of our times. We are

delighted to share his

thoughts with you:

When did you first know that you

wanted to be a photographer?

After the collapse of the USSR - society of the

same people dressed in the same way, boring

magazines with gray pages and television with

one propaganda channel - the first fashion

catalogs began to arrive from abroad. I could

look at photos in those catalogs for hours. And

when the girls wanted to have these beautiful

clothes, I realized that I want to take such

photos. But at that time and in that social

environment when people were called

“Photographer” they meant the person who

shoots weddings and school albums. Both these

things did not interest me.

Also I’ve discovered the world of photography

thanks to my father’s passion. He’s not a

professional photographer, just a good

engineer. I loved to spend time with my dad

documenting the day to day life of our family

and then observing the magical process of film

development in our home photo lab.

Do you only plan to stay in the

fashion industry or venture out

in other industries?

Needless to say, in a world that turned

upside down, it is difficult to have

confidence in something, but the fashion

industry is my great love. Working with

beautiful and unique fabrics, prints,

styles and colors makes me happy. This

is the largest field for creativity, that each

time requires a new fresh approach and

where there is no room for

standardization.

What is the most memorable

photography session that you

ever had?

Many of the photo shoots were unique

and memorable, thanks to different

things - interesting places, great teams,

specific clients who needed specific

approaches.

70 | CREATIV | Nov - Dec 2020 | www.creativmag.com

Maybe I’ll tell the story about one of my most

loved one this year . It was a project for a

water park zone in one of the largest

amusement parks in Europe and quite a

difficult technical task, because the client

wanted split water pictures.

On the pre-production stage everything that

could go wrong went wrong. We were

awaiting our models from abroad and there

was the risk that the flight would be canceled

because of COVID restrictions. Shooting

time was limited to one and a half hours -

we needed to finish before the opening of

the park. Who has organized photo sessions

will understand how long it takes to arrange

the equipment on location and then pose the

models, especially when You work with child

models. The day before shooting the weather

forecast changed every few minutes, a

thunderstorm went around. In this stressful

situation, 15 hours before the session a

catastrophe happened - the underwater

camera case was completely destroyed

during a test dive. It was Sunday, all stores,

malls and any places to buy or rent new

equipment were closed. So my assistant and

I were crafting a substitute of things found

at home until midnight. And cherry on top

- on the road to the shooting location my car

refused to start…

But the session itself was quiet, calm and

harmonious like in a home studio. There was

a great team, when in an hour and a half we

did not exchange even ten words, everyone

knew his place and what to do. The result

was even better than expected.

If a young photographer wants to

follow your footsteps what advice

would you have for them?

Treat your work with a sense of humor.

Remember that any profession has its hard

days, and more or less pleasant people.

Moreover, learn every day, not only

photography but also other seemingly

unnecessary things that affect your vision of

the world.

The following an editorial shot by Serg

depicting his fun and artistic skills.

LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS | Toni Douglas

Why Putting Yourself

FIRST

is Key in Your Next

Relationship

80 | CREATIV | Nov - Dec 2020 | www.creativmag.com

F

“First.”

What does that word really mean in a

relationship? Does it mean your needs come

before your partner’s? Does it mean you consider

what’s important to you and what’s important to

your partner comes second? I have the answer

Yes. to that.

While this may confuse some people currently in a relationship,

or may not even surprise some who are entering a new

relationship, it’s the absolute truth. Whether you’re looking for

a relationship or you’re in one, it’s crucial to know that your

needs and what’s important to you always come first. It doesn’t

mean you become a self-centered, egotistical partner in your

relationship, but rather a self-aware individual who must ensure

that they’re their best selves so they can be great for the person

their spending most of their time with.

Being in a healthy relationship requires you to know what you

want out of it and how it can nurture your growth. It’s also

accommodating some of you are so you can co-exist with your

current or potential partner.

When you consider the things that make you feel happy, sad,

worried, or safe, and you learn to accept it, it makes you a better

individual-- especially for someone else. Putting yourself first

doesn’t come easy when you’re a giving, kind and “do-it-all”

type of person. You have to be deliberate in putting yourself

first so you don’t find yourself prioritizing someone else’s wants

and needs. This is not to say you can’t be compassionate and

thoughtful, but you must be sure that your partner is not basking

in your attentive nature while you receive subpar treatment or

aren’t having your needs met.

While you phase into a new relationship, or if you’re trying to

make your current relationship flourish, make you a priority.

Consider your feelings and how it portrays who you are on the

outside. Factor in the things you’re looking for in a partnership

and make sure those needs can be met. In addition, make sure

your potential honey or current boo takes on this same attitude.

Challenge him/her to put themselves first so each of you can

be a great exhibition of who you really are.

Toni Douglas

Now, consider the word “first” again. Does it

take on a fresh meaning? Does it make you

want to alter the outlook on where you stand

in a relationship? Hopefully, you can believe

in YOU again, (or continue to), and take into

account how your special prioritizing works

best for the relationship you’ll encounter.

STORY TELLING | Yvonne Nobles

MASTERING

THE CLIMB

82 | CREATIV | Nov - Dec 2020 | www.creativmag.com

WWhen was the last time you set out on a

mission to attain a long-sought after

goal, only to find you were no closer to

achieving it that when the idea itself

was first conceived? Though that was

likely a frustrating experience, it is no legitimate

excuse to avoid setting new goals and charting new

paths to turn your dreams into reality. Since we all

can use a boost getting from the base of our

figurative mountains, these tips will prove useful in

maintaining firm footing during our C.L.I.M.B. to

ensure we reach the top.

C.onfidence: The first step on your most

important journey takes place in your mind; you

must believe in your ability to achieve your goal

before you can truly start working towards it. From

an early age, we are taught to doubt ourselves, to fear

the unknown and to limit our dreams. Such defeatist

thinking functions like quicksand or a tarpit; it is a

trap that will slow you down significantly and may

even bring your trek to a premature end. Avoid it at

all costs. Instead feed your mind on a stream of

healthy, reinforcing thoughts that will guarantee

your arrival at the destination of success.

L.earning: We are born into this world with

minds that are blank slates, but during our lives each

day affords a new opportunity for cognitive

development. Just think of it! Anyone can become a

mental giant if they first have a love of knowledge.

Just as skilled athletes will experience muscular

atrophy if they refuse to continue to train, our brains

are in danger of melting into useless goop if we fail to

exercise them daily. Always remember you are what

you eat; feed yourself positivity and stay far away

from naysayers that discourage you from pursuing

knowing more today than you did yesterday.

I.nspration: Much like a car needs fuel to run,

we must have genuine inspiration to keep striving to

reach our goals. Fortunately, it is available in a

variety of forms and often appears when you least

expect it. It is vital that you identify what lights your

fire; many find that nature can be stimulating:

golden sunsets and cotton-candy sunrises, majestic

waves crashing into sandcastles as the tide comes in,

star clusters that twinkle like diamonds up above or

the fiery crimson and orange-hued dizzying flights of

fall foliage. Others discover their creativity is sparked

after meditating on life’s myriad wonders and dwell

on past experiences and conversations to generate

new aha moments.

M.otivation: Given the inevitable bumps in the

road, not to mention the unprecedented challenges

humanity is facing, staying motivated has become

more important than ever before. Imagine if a toddler

after taking his first steps, moodily plopped to the

floor and refused to ever walk any further! While our

first steps are to be treasured, it is the final steps

upon arrival that are truly celebratory. Don’t give up

and never give in; remain focused on your why.

Should you begin to feel the end seems nowhere in

sight, glance briefly behind you as a reminder of why

you chose to move forward in the first place, then

“just keep swimming!”

B.linders: Do not fall prey to the common myth

that the road to success is paved with gold. The harsh

reality is there will be obstacles and challenges galore.

Relegate these to their proper place by viewing them

for what they truly are: distractions. No matter what

tries to hold you back from attaining your goals and

reaching the vey pinnacle of life, you must

progressively train yourself to ignore negativity. Take

a lesson from winning racehorses and keep your

blinders on. Giving a moment’s attention to dream

killers – even internal monsters such as fear or

doubt – could cause lasting damage or cost you the

race. Instead choose higher ground and stay the

course until your aspirations become manifest.

There’s no denying that 2020 has been fraught with

numerous difficulties, but when the going gets tough,

the tough get going. Persistence will pay off so never

stop reaching higher and further. Rest assured the

climb is always worth it. See you at the top!

O' DIVA

Sing me, O Diva, of the violence of modernity, of the nocturnal odyssey

of bodies in spasmodic movement under the bombardment of

deafening disco music and very short dresses that surround bare legs,

soaring on vertiginous stiletto heels.

Explain to me, O Diva, the need to appear, the boredom it causes

and the resulting dissatisfaction. Tell me about the emptiness and

frustration of those who know they have the power to make - people,

events, relationships - fail, open my eyes to the unfathomable world

of sequins and sequins that contains errors and horrors.

Upset me, O Diva, and guide me in the darkness of today, in the dark

rooms of the palaces of power, in the labyrinths of pseudo-intellectual

minds playing cat and mouse with those who worship them.

Sing me, O Diva, of the world as it has become. And then bring me

back to the surface when I'm too drunk to be able to distinguish between

what is dream and what is reality.
