W&M Studio for Teaching & Learning Innovation // 2019 - 2020 Annual Report

The Studio for Teaching & Learning Innovation was established in 2019 to break through disciplinary silos, adopt appropriate new technologies, and more strongly connect with and lead colleagues across the university to advance teaching excellence. Our desire to connect, collaborate, and serve as a hub for instructors, co-educators, and students alike pushes us daily to serve our community in responsive and strategic ways.

Community

Interest Groups

A critical goal for the studio in building and fostering community is to maintain a healthy and

vibrant ecosystem of people, ideas, and practices involved in innovative and transformative

teaching and learning. Within a healthy ecosystem, important needs are more easily

identified and solutions can be pursued through targeted programming and initiatives.

The Digital Humanities (DH) Interest Group and Large Classrooms Interest Group

are two examples of this sort of community. As part of the DH initiative, the studio

hosted the first-ever 2020 Digital Humanities Teaching Symposium, which brought

together instructors and co-educators from across the digital humanities for a day

of presentations, round-table discussions, and workshops.

Workshop Series

The 2019 - 2020 Workshop Series consisted of three sessions each semester

and were built around faculty projects and practices, with a unifying framework

provided by the studio. The topics selected for the workshops were meant to have

broad applicability among all of W&M faculty. Workshops were also offered to remote

attendees via Zoom, as well as recorded for on-demand viewing.
