What is theresult when you add three dives a day to a 30mLuxury 5 Star Hotel that travels from island toisland for one or two weeks? It’s called CarpeDiem, Carpe Novo, or Carpe Vita.Words really fail to describe how I feel when I amon board one of the Carpe fleet. Relaxing?Diving Bliss? Carefree? Safe? Professional? Takeyour pick or choose them all equally. Maybe I’ll retire on one of these luxury ships.How much does a day cost in real life? Morethan $400?The Dhoni fits 20 divers comfortably. Itfollows the Diem, takes you to dive spots,and fills your Nitrox/Air tanks on board.The Carpe Diem is just one of three luxury diving yachtsoperated by Carpe Diem Maldives. Otherdives you are hooked onto a rock outcroppingwatching sharks seemingly float next to you becausethe current is so powerful. Safety comes first! The diveCase in point. When are you allowedto enter the water? Twenty divers?Three groups? Some dive outfitsrush you - “dive dive dive! hurry up!let’s go!" Not these guys. The Dhonicaptain and the entire dive crew areall eyes and communication. NoDiver goes in until the safety signalis given by the captain. Constantcommunication is the Dhoni ruleand they enforce it. Muhammad forexample, has been on the Dhoni,filling tanks for years. He keeps alog of signatures for witnessedNitrox levels, supports divers as theywalk to the stern. This team is allhands on deck all the time.11
