Mrs. F. from Newcastle home is an immaculate example of good taste and charm.
A self admitting very fussy lady, she wanted more space for her large collection of shoes fitted into a small under
stair alcove. The two triangular pull out drawers in solid oak now hold up to thirty pairs and the deep third drawer
for higher boots. Finished in ivory to match and blend with the staircase.

Deceptively Spacious
Storage

Mrs. S from Morpeth wanted the cupboard
under the stairs which had accumulated
years of clutter, updated.
As a book lover she envisaged a library
with a small desk, a secret recess for
personal papers and as a jigsaw enthusiast,
large drawers for storing her favourites.
The dark and rather dingy space was
transformed into a warm bright additional
room with oak flooring, plenty of shelving
for books, a fold down desk, matching
oak stool, and jigsaw shaped drawer
handles, a secret cupboard completed
the conversion.

Mrs. L from Corbridge, needed much more cupboard
space, she wanted hidden coat hanging and everyday
shoe storage, as well as somewhere for her grandchildren’s
toys for when they visit.
Nook Design opened up the unused space under the
staircase installed a large pull out drawer for toys,
deep storage cupboards, a pull out coat rail and
pull out shoe rack and additional tall boot and shoe shelves.

Before & After
Mrs T. from Gosforth did not have a downstairs toilet,
and with two young children this had become a necessity.
She hoped that NOOK could transform the coal bunker
under the stairs, currently accessed from the
garage (see below), into a luxury cloakroom with a
new door now leading off the family kitchen!

Mrs. P from Ryton hated the
existing pine spindled staircase,
(far left) stained a rather
unattractive ‘mahogany’ and
needed a lot more storage
for her cycling gear as well as
additional hanging space.
Nook Design replaced the
staircase spindles and
newel posts painted to match
the new understairs storage units.
Along with a solid oak
handrail and matching seat top,
simply waxed and polished with
brass coat hanging and handles.

What we also do
As well as creating under staircase solutions
NOOK can also update, refurbish or replace
your entire staircase.
In this case removing the existing, rather dated,
staircase and completely replacing with a
mixture of solid and veneered oak and glass.
Matching the understairs cupboards which
incorporated solid oak dovetailed drawers,
pull out shoe racks and extending hanging rail,
as well as an upholstered seat beneath artwork
inset into the side under-stairs furniture.
Where soft furnishings or fitted cushions are
required as part of the design we use a skilled
local upholsterer and offer a limitless choice of
fabrics.
Once the staircase and understairs were
complete the new carpet stair runner was
fitted and timber flooring installed. Then the
entire hallway was decorated again arranged
by NOOK Design.

Under Eaves Storage
Mrs E. from Gosforth had several projects for NOOK Design
to complete the transformation of her family house.
She needed cupboards built into the eves of her converted loft,
creating much needed storage space. Library book shelves in the
study. Shoe and coat storage in a small alcove off the hallway with
a hall seat, bespoke wicker baskets and oak display shelves.
All painted in Purbeck Grey from Farrow & Ball to
compliment the newly fully decorated and carpeted home.
