Primary & Secondary Schools
The Highlands County school district encourages
and supports excellence in education.
The district offers a Kindergarten Learning
Center, elementary, middle and high
schools, along with community and adult
education. Advanced classes are available
at all grade levels.
Sebring High School offers the International
Baccalaureate (IB) programme, dual enrollment
with the local state college, and
Advanced Placement (AP) coursework to
allow students to earn college credits while
enrolled in high school.
Highlands County high school students also
can work toward a career while completing
their high school studies at the Highlands
Career Institute at South Florida State College
(SFSC). The Career Institute is an entire
learning experience on the SFSC Highlands
Campus. Students attend high school classes
taught by high school instructors during
one half of the day. During the other half of
the day, students attend college level classes
alongside other college students.

Private Schools
If a private education is preferred, students
may attend Heartland Christian Academy
or St. Catherine Catholic School, both
located in downtown Sebring.
Highler Education
South Florida State College (SFSC) is a comprehensive,
open-access, higher education
institution dedicated to providing a
student-centered environment focused on
learning and personal enrichment through
quality programs and services. At its campuses
in DeSoto, Hardee, and Highlands
counties and through its online presence,
the College offers certificates, associate
degrees, and bachelor’s degrees that lead
to the continued success of its graduates
and a variety of opportunities for the educational,
cultural, and economic advancement
of the service district.
The College offers three bachelor’s
degrees: Elementary Education, Supervision
and Management, and Nursing. The Bachelor
of Science in Nursing is offered fully
online, as well as the Bachelor of Applied
Science in Supervision and Management.
The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education
gives students hands-on experience
in the classroom and graduates teachers
who work in the local K-12 system.
