James T. Bowse Health Trust
Creating a Healthier Community
Since its inception in 1996, the James T. Bowse Health Trust
has granted more than $4 million to 65 programs aimed
at improving the health status of residents in the Rutland
Region. Over the years, the Trust has funded a variety of
programs targeting different health issues, people and
places in the Rutland Region. Each program aligns with
the priority areas identified by the community through the
Community Health Needs Assessment, conducted every
three years. These programs have positively impacted health
and wellness throughout our local region.
In December 2020, the Bowse Health Trust announced
funding for three important projects over the next three
years. The 2018 Community Health Needs Assessment
identified significant needs locally in Supporting Aging
Community, Housing, Mental Health (including substance
use), and Childcare and Parenting. In addition, COVID-19
has further illustrated disparities for some of the most
vulnerable in our community. For these reasons, the 2021
grant recipients are: The Mentor Connector, The Turning
Point Center of Rutland County and Homeless Prevention
Center. These organizations were selected because of critical
need for these services within our community.
As our community evolves, Bowse Health Trust is
committed to improving the health of Rutland County
Residents. Although COVID-19 has changed the way in
which we connect and help each other, our ability to be
collaborative, caring and innovative endures. Programs
funded by the Bowse Health Trust continue to touch and
improve lives thoughout our local region. The next grant
cycle will be announced in April 2021, as grants are awarded
on an annual basis.
Our Heartfelt Thanks
In Vermont, neighbors help neighbors, and in our local
region, this way of life has long been the source of our
resiliency. Our physicians, nurses and staff continue to
be humbled by the compassion and generosity of our
community – all of you. Throughout the COVID-19 crisis,
your unwavering support has provided critical resources,
raised our spirits and sustained our strength.
From financial contributions and donations of personal
protective equipment, food, cards, and signs for
front-line workers, to donations of time, service, and
expertise, members of this community have helped make
a meaningful difference during the past year.
In this uncertain time, the dedication, confidence and
generosity of countless individuals, businesses, corporations,
and organizations near and far have helped us stay strong.
From all of us at Rutland Regional Medical Center,
thank you for your support.
Expanded COVID-19 Testing
Supports Community
In June 2020, Rutland Regional received an overwhelmingly
generous donation to enable the purchase of three new
testing analyzers to enhance in-house COVID-19 testing
capabilities, increasing testing capacity for our community
and providing the rapid results that continue to be critical
to ongoing recovery efforts in our region.
“The additional analyzers have enabled Rutland Regional to meet the
needs of our most critical populations, as well as the flexibility to test
others in the community regularly as needed. The analyzers have made a
huge difference for our region, and we are grateful for this incredible gift.”
