Objective : To promote grading of Kapas, prior to sale in the regulated<br />

markets and to facilitate procurement Operation undertaken by the Co-operatives, State<br />

Markets, NAFED and the National State Textile Corporations on the basis of quality and<br />

grade and enable the cotton growers to fetch price commensurate with quality.<br />

Participation : The Junior level in-service officials sponsored by the State<br />

Marketing Departments, State Marketing Board Co-operatives and other Government and<br />

Semi Government Organizations are eligible for <strong>admission</strong> to this course.<br />

Course Content : Historical background of cotton, botanical and trade<br />

classification of cotton varieties, varieties grown in different States and their quality<br />

characteristics, marketing of kapas and lint and problems faced, various central and state<br />

legislative measures related to cotton marketing, technological aspects, ginning pressing,<br />

balling physical properties of cotton fibre, factors affecting the quality of kapas, post harvest<br />

improved marketing practices.<br />

Training Method logy : (a) Medium of Instruction: English Lectures, seminars and<br />

workshops, guest faculty, library assignments, field trips, grading practice, study tours and<br />

audio visual aids. The course material is supplied free of cost in cyclostyled <strong>form</strong>.<br />

Fee : No fee is charged from the sponsored candidates admitted to<br />

the course, No lodging and boarding facilities are provided by the Directorate of Marketing<br />

and Inspection, and the trainees will have to make their own arrangements. The sponsoring<br />

authority will have to pay T.A. & D.A. to the trainees to the entire period of training.<br />

Study tour : In order to provide an opportunity to the trainees to study the<br />

grading of kapas at the level of regulated markets, co-operatives and to enable them to keep<br />

abreast with the operational and functional aspects of the marketing of cotton and quality<br />

control aspects, field visits are arranged to the concerned organization. The sponsoring<br />

authorities are, therefore requested to pay a sum of Rs 10,000/- Towards T.A. advance.<br />

Awards of Certificate : Certificate is awarded by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser<br />

to the Government of India, to the trainees, who successfully complete the training<br />

programme.
