Structure<br />
Pupils are based in <strong>for</strong>m groups which are both teaching <strong>and</strong><br />
pas<strong>to</strong>ral units. The <strong>for</strong>m teacher takes primary interest in the<br />
pas<strong>to</strong>ral <strong>and</strong> academic welfare of his/her pupils.<br />
Pupils are taught in <strong>for</strong>m groups <strong>for</strong> all lessons. Sometimes<br />
groups are taught at different paces within classes <strong>to</strong> ensure<br />
individual needs within a class are met.<br />
Our maximum class size is 16.<br />
Curriculum<br />
The curriculum reflects the dem<strong>and</strong>s of the Early Years<br />
Foundation Stage as well as the Primary <strong>School</strong> Review.<br />
The day is structured <strong>to</strong> allow <strong>for</strong> breaks in the morning <strong>and</strong><br />
the afternoon <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong> lunch which is supervised.<br />
Teaching Facilities<br />
Teaching facilities <strong>for</strong> Reception, Year 1 <strong>and</strong> Year 2 are<br />
purpose designed <strong>and</strong> this group of pupils has access <strong>to</strong> their<br />
own dedicated outdoor area. They also benefit from the use<br />
of all Foundation facilities relevant <strong>to</strong> children of this age:<br />
they join older Lyndhurst pupils in Years 3-6 <strong>for</strong> some<br />
assemblies, they have access <strong>to</strong> the Tom S<strong>to</strong>ppard Theatre<br />
<strong>and</strong> campus sports facilities <strong>and</strong> the swimming pool.<br />
Specialist music teaching is also available on site <strong>to</strong> those<br />
children whose parents wish them <strong>to</strong> have individual lessons.<br />
At the end of Year 2 children will be tested alongside new<br />
Y3 <strong>applicants</strong> but they will au<strong>to</strong>matically progress <strong>to</strong> Year 3<br />
(See page 9 <strong>for</strong> further details on admissions).<br />
PREP<br />
Years 3-6<br />
Structure<br />
Pupils are based in <strong>for</strong>m groups which are both teaching<br />
<strong>and</strong> pas<strong>to</strong>ral units. The <strong>for</strong>m teacher takes primary interest<br />
in the pas<strong>to</strong>ral <strong>and</strong> academic welfare of his/her pupils.<br />
All pupils are allocated <strong>to</strong> one of four houses: Rievaulx,<br />
Jervaulx, Fountains or Byl<strong>and</strong>. Houses are involved in<br />
competitions in art, music, drama, creative writing <strong>and</strong><br />
sport.<br />
Pupils are taught in <strong>for</strong>m groups <strong>for</strong> all lessons other than<br />
in Years 5 <strong>and</strong> 6 when mathematics <strong>and</strong> English are taught<br />
in ability groups. Sometimes groups are taught at different<br />
paces within classes <strong>to</strong> ensure individual needs within a<br />
class are met.<br />

Most Lyndhurst pupils move on <strong>to</strong> Pockling<strong>to</strong>n <strong>School</strong> at<br />
the end of Year 6, but they do have <strong>to</strong> sit the Pockling<strong>to</strong>n<br />
<strong>School</strong> entrance examination.
