The transforming

nature of the

gospel is what lifts

us out of ashes

and despair and

makes us strong,

rooted,

joy-filled and

productive

displayers of His

splendour

IT IS

TIME!

“Write this. Write what you see.

Write it out in big block letters

so that it can be read on the

run. This vision-message

is a witness pointing to what’s

coming. It aches for the

coming—it can hardly wait!

And it doesn’t lie. If it seems

slow in coming, wait. It’s on its

way. It will come right on time.

- Habakkuk 2:2-3 [MSG]

The book you hold in your hands

is precious. Quite intentionally,

it has been beautifully designed

and has certainly cost money to

produce, but it is not to these

things I refer. What you are about

to read is deeply personal and has

been matured in the seasoned

vats of faith over decades. It is only

being poured out now, because

preparation and opportunity have

collided to declare... it is time!

Vision is not to do with sight alone,

but insight and foresight also. The

prophet Habakkuk understood this

well and I love the way The Message

puts it (Habakkuk 2:2-3).

We see that vision guides and

unites, as together, with focussed

energy, we pursue the things God

has said to us. This is absolutely

about Heart Church and what we

believe we are called to, but it’s also

absolutely about you!

This book may be aimed at your

eyes, but its content is aimed at

your heart. Its pages may be silent,

but its call is loud and clear. The

paper is new, but the message is as

ancient as the Cross of Calvary. The

Gospel can transform your whole

life, all your life!

So much more than inspiration, it is

an invitation to break ranks with the

ordinary and the tame and embark

on an extraordinary adventure of

faith.

This is not just about a church,

the ABC of WOW is (as the poem

at the end of this book references),

a clarion call to the ‘The ordinary

and the unremarkable who have

met an EXTRAORDINARY and

REMARKABLE God.’ This book and

its message will unapologetically

challenge what you do with your

life, where you live, how you define

success and, maybe, even what you

believe about following Jesus.

At the time of writing this, it is

almost exactly 35 years since I

lay on my bed in my rented flat

and gave my life to Jesus. Within

a couple of years, I had met and

married my wife and, ‘for better or

for worse’, we devoted our lives to

Jesus and each other. Our passion

for Jesus has taken us well beyond

the boundaries of our comfort

zone, but in so doing, He forged in

us an unwavering confidence that

GOD IS ABLE!

I believe that we live in

unprecedented times and our city

and even the nation await not just

a message, but a movement. A

people who are not just waiting for

a move of God, but are prepared

to be a move of God. A people who

have been ‘WOWED’ by Jesus and

are living ‘WOW’ lives. As it turns

out, something so beautiful and

profound could be just as simple

as - ABC!

Malcolm Baxter

Behold, I have set before you an

open door, which no one is

able to shut.

- Revelation 3:8

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has ANOINTED

me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for

the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the

Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of

our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide

for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them

a crown of BEAUTY instead of ashes,

the oil of joy instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise instead of a spirit

of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,

a planting of the Lord for the DISPLAY OF

HIS SPLENDOUR.

They will REBUILD the ancient ruins

and RESTORE the places long

devastated; they will RENEW the ruined

cities that have been devastated for generations.

mation

The Spirit of God unleashes the

potential He placed within us. Potential

that has for too long been buried in fear,

rejection and sin, which clogged up our

mindsets and perverted our behaviour.

But thanks be to God - he who the Son

sets free is free indeed.

The mission is not religion, but the

restoration of humanity. We don’t just

want to rescue people from the ‘car-crash’

for them to remain broken and

hospitalised for the rest of their lives.

The Gospel has the power to transform

your whole life, all your life. In this regard,

we are not even simply talking about

rehabilitation but transformation -

metamorphosis! Jesus restores, renews

and resets your life to original purpose.

All the days ordained for me were written in

His book before one of them came to be.

THE SPIRIT OF THE SOVEREIGN LORD IS UPON ME,

BECAUSE THE LORD HAS ANOINTED ME ... - ISAIAH 61:1

The

presence —

of God

Unless the Lord builds the house,

The 7th

Hand

The common measurement

of Bible days was something

called the cubit. The cubit was

six handbreadths of a person’s

forearm, known as the ‘cubit of a

man’s hand’. Rabbinical teaching

described this part of the arm,

from the elbow to the fingertip,

as the mother of the arm; the

part that gave birth to anything

humanity could imagine. From

the garden of Eden until now,

the whole world is a tribute to

the creativity of humanity, made

in the image of God. An idea is

conceived and the ‘cubit of a

man’s hand’ creates. Great cities

and feats of engineering; space

travel and nuclear power; brain

surgery and robotic technologies;

everything humanity has created,

through the ‘six handbreadths of

a man’s hand’. But this giftedness

and genius can steal the need for

God. Jesus taught that without

Him, nothing humanity can do

has eternal value. The number

6 in the Bible is the number of

humanity, representing human

giftedness and effort. God

created the world in 6 days but

said that the 7th was His.

When God gave Ezekiel a vision

to come out of captivity and

build His house, God changed

the building formula, adding one

more handbreadth. Anything can

be built with the cubit of a man’s

hand but to build God’s kingdom

requires ‘The 7th Hand’. As we

do what we can do and bring the

6 handbreadths of our gifting,

creativity and efforts, God

adds The 7th Hand of His Holy

Spirit. The 7th Hand releases

breakthrough, opens heaven,

moves mountains and unlocks

miracles. The 7th Hand builds

with the significance that echoes

in eternity.

Honour —

OUR PARADIGM

ANOINTING ISAIAH 61:1

When Jesus had finished

these parables, he moved

on from there. Coming to

his hometown, he began

teaching the people in their

synagogue, and they were

amazed. “Where did this

man get this wisdom and

these miraculous powers?”

they asked. “Isn’t this the

carpenter’s son? Isn’t his

mother’s name Mary, and

aren’t his brothers James,

Joseph, Simon and Judas?

Aren’t all his sisters with us?

Where then did this man

get all these things?” And

they took offence at him.

But Jesus said to them,

“A prophet is not without

honour except in his own

town and in his own home.”

And he did not do many

miracles there because of

their lack of faith.

- Matthew 13:53-58

In the culture of honour we

celebrate who a person is

without stumbling over who

they are not.

- Bill Johnson

The journey

from

amazement

to offence

was the shift

of focus from

the anointing

and honour to

humanity and

familiarity

Aaron &

Hur

‘When Moses’ hands grew

tired, they took a stone and

put it under him and he sat

on it. Aaron and Hur held his

hands up - one on one side,

one on the other - so that his

hands remained steady till

sunset. So Joshua overcame

the Amalekite army with the

sword. ’

- Exodus 17:12-13

Because everyone played their

part, the battle was won.

Father

We believe that God is holy and wholly

good: eternal, infinite, all-powerful,

all-knowing, unchanging and in Him we

live, move and have our being. He is our

perfect Father; loving, compassionate

and faithful to all of His promises.

Matthew 28:19 | John 14:10

John 14:16 | 1 Corinthians 8:6

Ephesians 4:6 | Matthew 23:9

Psalm 68:5

Son

We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son. Completely human.

Completely God. In fulfilment of all Law and Prophecy, He is the

Messiah, born of a virgin, and the sole plan to bring those far from God

back to Himself. Having lived without sin, He defeated death and sin

through His death on the cross and His resurrection. He ascended to

heaven and is now interceding for us at the right hand of the Father.

Isaiah 7:14 | Matthew 1:18-23 | John 1:1,14 | John 3:16 | John 5:26

Colossians 2:9 | Philippians 2:6-11 | Colossians 1:13-23 | Luke 4:17-21

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God. He guides believers in all

truth and exalts Christ. He convicts us of sin and guides us in all

righteousness. He comforts us, assures us of our relationship with God,

gives us spiritual gifts and empowers us to become more like Jesus.

Joel 2:28-32 | John 16:7-15 | Matthew 3:16-17 | Acts 1:4-8

Acts 2:1-13 | Acts 7:55-56 | Acts 10:44-48 | Galatians 5:22-26

The Trinity

We believe that God has eternally existed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

He is One Being in Three Persons; each working together in perfect

harmony and serving different functions; each possessing equal power,

authority and glory.

Isaiah 61:1 | Matthew 28:19 | Mark 1:9-11 | John 14:16 | James 2:19

2 Corinthians 13:14

The Bible

We believe that the Bible (Old and New Testaments) is the only

inspired Word of God; written by human authors under divine

inspiration. It is truth without error and remains completely

authoritative and relevant to our lives today.

Deuteronomy 4:1-2 | Psalm 119:89,105 | Isaiah 40:8 | Romans 15:4

Hebrews 4:12 | 1 Peter 1:25 | Acts 2:42

People

We believe that all people are made in

the image of God, created to love and

be loved by God. People are created to

have fellowship with Him but all have

been impacted by sin. No-one can

achieve right relationship with God

through their own effort. Every person

is planned by God, born for purpose

and has equal value. In this regard, all

people are worthy of our Christian love

and respect.

Genesis 1:26-30 | Genesis 2:7

Genesis 2:18-22 | Colossians 3:9-11

Ephesians 1:4 | Ephesians 2:1-7

Salvation

We believe that sin has separated people from God. The only way to

salvation and the forgiveness of sin is through the work of Christ’s death

on the cross, burial and resurrection. Salvation is the gift of God’s

grace for anyone who recognises and receives, by faith, that the

death and resurrection of Jesus is the only way to make full payment

for our sin and bring us into right relationship with God.

Isaiah 53:5-6 | Matthew 1:21 | Matthew 27:22-66 | John 1:12 | John 3:16

Acts 2:21 | Ephesians 2:8 | Romans 1:16 | Romans 3:23 | Romans 4:24-25

The Church

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, with Christ as the

head. It advances God’s Kingdom and overcomes the power of Satan.

A local church is a community of water-baptised, Spirit-filled believers,

who regularly take communion together. Whether gathered together,

or living their everyday lives, they are committed to obeying the

teachings and commands of Jesus. They seek to live in love and unity;

glorifying Christ, influencing society and bringing the Gospel to the

world.

Matthew 6:18-19 | Acts 2:38 | Acts 2:41-47 | Acts 16:5

Ephesians 3:10-12 | 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 | 1 Corinthians 12:12-14

Romans 12:5 | Colossians 1:18

Eternity

We believe that all people are created to exist forever. This will either

be in eternal union with God through salvation, or eternal separation

from God. Eternal union with God is Heaven; eternal separation is Hell.

John 3:16,36 | Romans 6:23 | 1 John 2:25 | 1 John 5:11-13

Revelation 20:15

Hope

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will visibly return in bodily form,

as promised, to complete the plan of God. He will raise all people to

judgement and establish a new Heaven and a new Earth. Our eternal

destination, of either Heaven or Hell, is determined by our response to

the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:11 | Acts 17:31 | Romans 14:10-12 | 1 Thessalonians 3:13

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 | John 14:1-3 | 2 Timothy 4:1-2

Heart Church people are family.

They build great marriages, families and

homes that influence communities.

They build businesses and write songs,

paint pictures and make films, become

teachers and doctors and open shops and

restaurants and stack shelves and take

cities and run clubs.

We are Mr. and Mrs. Average and the

man in the street, the girl next door and

Joe Bloggs. We are the Smiths and the

Joneses, the Akpovis and the Olawales,

the Mpofus and the Zulus.

We are the mix and match from the ups

and the downs!

The ordinary and the unremarkable

who have met an extraordinary and

remarkable God.

We face set-backs and put-downs with

get-ups and push-throughs.

We face the facts but believe God.

And so, in Him...

The fearful become the fearless.

The worriers become the warriors.

The overwhelmed the overcomers.

We are the game changers and the

world changers.

We are Heart Church

and this is our vision.
