The

presence —

of God

Unless the Lord builds the house,

The 7th

Hand

The common measurement

of Bible days was something

called the cubit. The cubit was

six handbreadths of a person’s

forearm, known as the ‘cubit of a

man’s hand’. Rabbinical teaching

described this part of the arm,

from the elbow to the fingertip,

as the mother of the arm; the

part that gave birth to anything

humanity could imagine. From

the garden of Eden until now,

the whole world is a tribute to

the creativity of humanity, made

in the image of God. An idea is

conceived and the ‘cubit of a

man’s hand’ creates. Great cities

and feats of engineering; space

travel and nuclear power; brain

surgery and robotic technologies;

everything humanity has created,

through the ‘six handbreadths of

a man’s hand’. But this giftedness

and genius can steal the need for

God. Jesus taught that without

Him, nothing humanity can do

has eternal value. The number

6 in the Bible is the number of

humanity, representing human

giftedness and effort. God

created the world in 6 days but

said that the 7th was His.

When God gave Ezekiel a vision

to come out of captivity and

build His house, God changed

the building formula, adding one

more handbreadth. Anything can

be built with the cubit of a man’s

hand but to build God’s kingdom

requires ‘The 7th Hand’. As we

do what we can do and bring the

6 handbreadths of our gifting,

creativity and efforts, God

adds The 7th Hand of His Holy

Spirit. The 7th Hand releases

breakthrough, opens heaven,

moves mountains and unlocks

miracles. The 7th Hand builds

with the significance that echoes

in eternity.
