6— Vanguard, MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2021 Obaship tussle: Egiri Ruling House asks court to remove Agura of Gbagura from office THE Egiri Ruling House in Gbagura Kingdom, Abeokuta, Ogun State has dragged the Agura of Gbagura land, Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre, and the kingmakers before an Abeokuta High Court, seeking the removal of the monarch from office. The ruling house in a suit marked, AB/292/2019, is challenging the election and appointment of Oba Bakre as the 9th Agura of Gbagura, alleging that the election and subsequent installation of the monarch did not follow due process and breached the provisions of section 16 of the Chiefs Law, Laws of Ogun State 2006. Bakre was appointed the 9th Agura of Gbagura during the tenure of the immediate past administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun. But the Egiri Ruling House, in the matter taken before the court <strong>against</strong> the Oba Bakre, the kingmakers, alleged that the installation and coronation of the monarch violated the provisions of section 16 of the Chiefs Law, Laws of Ogun State 2006. Joined in the suit are the Chairman and Secretary to the Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Attorney-General of the state and the governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun. The suit was filed for and on behalf of members of Egiri Ruling House, Prince Akindele Sharafadeen Ogunwoolu, Prince Saburi Ayinde Adeyemi, Prince Sufian Soetan, Prince Salihu Adetunji Nadir, Prince Kabiru Abolade and Prince Wasiu Adeyinka Adeosun. The claimants in an amended writ of summons claimed that the monarch “is not a descendant of any lineage of Egiri Ruling House, lacks the prerequisite locus standi to vie for Agura of Gbagura stool and his selection/election, presentation and/or appointment and installation as Agura of Gbagura is null and void. “That the regency council by their statutory duties have no official role in the process of nomination, selection and/or election, presentation, appointment and installation AF any qualified candidate as Agura of Gbagura.” The ruling house, therefore, prayed the court to set aside the selection, election, presentation, appointment and installation of the Oba Bakre as the Agura of Gbagura. Information had it that the baby beside Ayike House could have been dropped there by his unknown mother, apparently for medical reasons. Mobile policeman, 3 land grabbers arrested over death of man in Lagos By Evelyn Usman A Mobile policeman and three civilians have been arrested in connection with the death of a man, weekend, in NITEL area of Ikorodu, Lagos. The cop with an undisclosed identity was alleged to have led some armed thugs to the Igbogbo area of Lagos, to forcefully evacuate some persons from an expanse of land. Some land grabbers said to have engaged the policeman’s services, reportedly went into a rampage in their bid to evacuate those they met from the land. This was met by some restrictions, in the process of which the area was thrown into disarray. Some shots, according to eyewitnesses, were fired. Unfortunately, a bullet hit a man in his car, killing him on the spot. An eye witness who gave his name as Jide Jeje, said: “Policemen from Igbogbo division arrived at the scene and evacuated the corpse. It was deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital.
