FEBRUARY 2009 GRANT RECIPIENTS U FEBRUARY 2009 GRANT RECIPIENTS U ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ELL AUDIO LITERACY PROJECT $960.00 Friendship Connection at Edgerton & Central Park / Stacey Dahlstrom To purchase 30 portable CD players to assist low level ELL learners and their families in learning basic literacy skills. Friendship Connection Students will record lessons in English that ELL Students can share with their families. This way the whole family can improve their English literacy skills together. ENGAGING THE RELUCTANT READER $1,000.00 Central Park Elementary School / Anders Johnson and Kimberly King Increase the number of high interest-low readability literature for struggling readers. HALLWAY BOOKMOBILE $400.00 Edgerton Elementary School / Rita Mills Purchase books for a portable library for students arriving early to school. When students arrive early, they wait in the south hallway under the supervision of a Teacher Assistant. The bookmobile will give students the opportunity to read books while they wait for school to start. BACKFLIPPING BOOKS INTO INNOVATIVE IMOVIES $1,872.00 Falcon Heights Elementary School / Kristi Wobbema Purchase materials needed to help record iMovies. The iMovie Club at Falcon Heights allows 5th and 6th Grade students to create iMovies related to their favorite books. This encourages reading and enhances reading comprehension for students in the iMovie Club. This grant will allow students to perform “Pirates the Musical” at the end of the year. Students will learn about staging, acting, singing and directing. ❖ ❖ ❖ DOCUMENT CAMERA ENHANCES LEARNING $800.00 Parkview / Nan Taylor Purchase a SMART document camera for use in the classroom. The camera allows the teacher to display live documents and objects on the SMARTboard in real-time. When a student asks a question, pictures, maps, diagrams and other visuals can be displayed for all students to gain clarification about the topic. LOWER READING LEVEL BOOKS GR 8 NATIVE AMERICANS UNIT $325.00 Roseville Area Middle School / Linda Gallus Purchase 13 lower level reading books based on Native American tribes. Students in 8th Grade create reports about Native American. FOAM BODY BARS $1,941.00 Roseville Area High School / Shannon Fjeld Purchase 44 foam body bars to incorporate into physical education classes. The bars will be used for resistance training, stretching, balancing, yoga, Pilates, martial arts and cardiovascular training.
