CAR-CLEANING TIPS
12 WAYS TO GIVE YOUR WHEELS A FRESH START
1. Clean up spills quickly, before they have a chance so soak in and set.
2. When vacuuming, use the duster-brush attachment to get in all the
nooks and crannies of the dashboard, center console and door panels.
If you don’t have an attachment, use a paintbrush to dislodge the dust.
3. Use the crevice tool to reach between seats and the console to dislodge
food crumbs and other hidden goodies. Remember to move the seats to
their extreme front and back positions.
4. Don’t forget to vacuum the seams on seats, where dirt accumulates
and breaks down the material.
5. For upholstery, use a mild solution (a couple of drops per gallon) of
dishwashing detergent and water to clean seats. Dip a clean towel into
the solution and rub gently. For leather upholstery, a leather cleaner is
recommended, although the homemade cleaner can be used. After
cleaning leather, rub in a conditioner. Use the treatment every six months.
6. If you have tinted windows, it’s better to use an alcohol-based cleaner
than an ammonia-based glass cleaner, because the ammonia can break
down the tint.
7. A good way to get streak-free windows is to use a micro-fiber towel.
8. Don’t forget to clean the rearview mirrors and side windows.
9. Clean the instrument panel with a clean micro-fiber cloth.
10. Keep a towel under your seat to quickly clean up spills on fabric
upholstery. Instead of rubbing the spill, try pressing down with the
towel to soak it up. For more stubborn stains, try using the mild cleaning
solution mentioned above.
11. If you do use a spray stain remover, be sure you go back with a clean
damp towel to remove any residual cleaner, which acts as a magnet for
dirt when left on the seat.
12. Combat red stains with the following method: Fill a spray bottle to
the top with 90 percent water and 10 percent ammonia. Spray onto the
red stain, wetting well. Place a clean damp towel over the stain and press
with a hot iron. This will transfer some of the dye into the towel. Repeat
spraying and ironing and most of the red stain should come out.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOL UPDATES
CONTINUED CAMPUS PHASE 1 SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Katy ISD Campus Phase 1 Safety Protocols remain in effect to ensure the continued
mitigation and deterrence of the potential spread of COVID-19. The District anticipates
releasing Phase 2 protocols when state, local and the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
provide updated guidance allowing for de-escalation of virus mitigation protocols. Katy
ISD will provide updates as additional information becomes available. Please check the
Katy ISD “Smart Restart” webpage to review current Campus Phase 1 Safety Protocols.
KATY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES CALL
FOR A MAY 2021 SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved to hold a general election in
May 2021 for a three-year term in Positions 6 and 7.
• Early Voting by Personal Appearance: Mon, April 19 to Tues, April 27, 2021
• Election Day: Saturday, May 1, 2021
Currently, Position 6 is being held by Susan Gesoff and Position 7 is held
by Dawn Champagne. State law requires a candidate for trustee of an
independent school district to be a qualified voter by the time mentioned
in Election Code Section 141.001. Katy ISD trustees are the governing body
of the school district and are the main advising group that oversees and
shapes policies. Individuals serving as Board members are not employees
of Katy ISD, yet they dedicate countless hours to lead an A+ school district.
KATY VIRTUAL SCHOOL REGISTRATION OPEN
For students, virtual classes are an excellent way to acquire graduation credits
and/or expand their learning opportunities. Last year, over 4,000 students
utilized the Katy Virtual School (KVS) program offered by the Katy Independent
School District. KVS launched in 2013 with a primary goal of expanding the
learning opportunities for students by offering choice and flexibility for rigorous
online courses developed and taught by Katy ISD teachers. KVS has begun
online registration for Summer 2021, Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters.
“KVS provides online learning that offers a flexible, online experience, which
helps students achieve their educational goals,” said Susan Richards, Katy ISD
Instructional Technology e-Learning Manager. “The virtual model of e-learning
is in high demand and delivers quality instruction to Katy ISD students, outside
of normal school hours, to support student graduation plans. KVS is different
from the current Katy Virtual Academy (KVA), which is the online learning
model implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” added Richards.
KVS will offer a wide range of courses from Creative Writing, AP Art
History, English III, World Geography, Economics, Psychology and more.
There are over 30 Advanced Placement (AP), Katy Advanced Program
(KAP) and academic level courses available to students with additional
opportunities being added each year. The cost per course is $200 per
semester. KVS is an approved College Board online provider for Advanced
Placement (AP) courses and by the NCAA for student initial eligibility.

SUPPORT GROUP FOR JOB HUNTERS
Searching for a job can be difficult and stressful, but doing it in the middle
of a pandemic can be even worse. Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will
host an online Job-Search Support Group on Tuesday, April 27 th at 2 PM.
This program will be live-streamed via Webex; it will NOT be in person. In
this online forum, job hunters will have an opportunity to network with
other people, exchange tips and leads or simply vent their frustrations
with others in the same position. Library staff will share helpful online
resources that can be accessed through the FBCL website. These free
resources can help job seekers create a better resumé, improve their
job skills, research job opportunities and careers and much more. This
online event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required

AWARDS LUNCHEON ON MAY 4TH
Celebrating its 40 years of service to Houston and Texas, Crime Stoppers
of Houston will host its annual Houston’s Heroes Awards Luncheon on
Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 11:30 AM-1 PM at the Royal Sonesta Houston
Hotel to honor outstanding individuals and organizations who have
given exemplary service to make Houston a safer place to live, work,
learn and play. Due to the public health threat from Covid-19 and the
current health and safety protocols, we will offer both an in-person
event with limited seating as well as virtual access for sponsors and
supporters to participate from home. While Crime Stoppers had to
cancel this event last Spring due to the pandemic, the organization is
unable to do so this year and reminds the community that it relies on
this event for funding. Eight distinguished awards will be awarded at
this annual fundraiser that raises funds to keep our communities safe.
For the second year, Crime Stoppers of Houston will reveal the winner
of the Dave Ward Media Excellence Award. This unique award will honor
an entity or individual who has exhibited media excellence and will be

selected by Houston’s Media Icon Dave Ward himself, along with support
from a small committee of his constituents at Crime Stoppers of Houston.
For 40 years, Crime Stoppers of Houston has focused on solving crime
through the famed Tip Line, 713-222-TIPS and reducing overall criminal
activity by preventing it through educational community programming.
The non-profit, which fundraises year-round will directly benefit from
the luncheon’s proceeds to help further advance the Crime Stoppers’
mission. Attending the 2021 Houston’s Heroes Awards Luncheon is one
easy way to support Crime Stoppers and public safety. The event is open
to participation by all. Individual tickets start at $175 and sponsorship
