KLIC Society looking for you! Last summer during the first wave of the pandemic, a small group of dedicated remote workers in Kaslo started a co-working space hoping to support the community and region with new economic opportunities. The initial group included engineers, designers, scientists, students, health and technology professionals. They are local as well as visiting professionals, also known as “Digital Nomads”. We have operated the non-profit Kootenay Lake Innovation Centre (KLIC) Society Open Source Technology & Creative Co-working Space from the Kemball Memorial Centre in Kaslo. Our community has the opportunity to kickstart a new movement post pandemic and blend creativity with business development in a co-working space with innovative programs. We would like to accommodate youth, older adults, creatives, non-profits, technologists and entrepreneurs to grow business with a new economy workforce. Would you like to work with us? Highlights so far: • We have formed our non-profi t and reached good membership growth during a global pandemic with little marketing • We have formed 3 subgroups, each with their own leadership and volunteers including Tech Team, Civic Engagement and Creative Collective • We have weekly socials, technology nights and are building out our fi rst open source digital applications for our region including a video app and business services KOOTENAY LAKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY has been successful in its application for a CERIP grant through Heritage BC to build three small Canadian Pacific historic style buildings at the SS Moyie National Historic site. These buildings will be used for new displays to tell the story of the shipyards that built these ships, of their railway connections and also for storage. We are pleased to offer this job opportunity at our site for the duration of the construction. CARPENTRY LEAD Reporting to a KLHS Board member, this position will assist in recruiting and hiring local general labour and trades as required. The successful applicant will ensure quality workmanship and assist KLHS towards successful completion of the project. Effective March 29, 2021 at 11:59 pm all indoor adult group recreation classes at Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) facilities are paused until April 20, 2021. Structured child and youth programs and sports will be permitted. “The RDCK and all our recreation partners will abide by all Provincial Health Orders and recommendations as the safety of our staff and the public will always be paramount,” said Joe Chirico, General Manager of Community Services. All classes will resume following the three week pause and any missed classes will be made up where possible. If classes cannot be made up, users will receive a pro-rated refund. Both high intensity group exercise and low intensity group exercise are included in the order. Reserved activities are permitted to continue at RDCK facilities, including swimming, individual fitness and indoor walking. Face masks are required in all RDCK facilities.
