eon Douglas Hamlin was born January 27, 1947 in Florence, SC to
the late Leonadus Hamlin and Jessie Belle Coker Hamlin.
Leon received his formal education from the Florence County Public
Schools, graduating from Wilson High School in 1965. He was a
lifelong member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church.
He was united in holy matrimony to Katherine Marcus Hamlin on
September 16, 1972.
He spent his pastime working on cars and retired after 30 years of
service from UPS.
He left to cherish precious memories: his wife, Katherine Hamlin of
Effingham, SC; sons, Paul (Brenda) Hamlin of Gaston, SC and Leon
D. Hamlin II of Orlando, FL; daughter, Latasha Hamlin Green of
Effingham, SC; grandchildren, Marc Brockington, Raekwon Fogle,
Malik Green, Makayla Huggins, Sanaa Clarke, D’ami Clarke; and a
host of other relatives and friends.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
