EDWARD POLOCHICK MUSIC DIRECTORPetersburg Symphony (Russia), and the Stateof Mexico Symphony Orchestra (Mexico).Photo By JamesAnn PhotographyEDWARD POLOCHICK, MUSIC DIRECTOREdward Polochick, Music Director of Lincoln'sSymphony Orchestra since 1998, has expandedLSO’s music series through innovative classicalmusic programs, family concerts, pops concerts,and July 4th events like the Uncle Sam Jam.For 31 years, he served as Artistic Director ofConcert Artists of Baltimore, an all-professionalchamber orchestra and vocal ensemble of eightymusicians which he founded in 1987. MaestroPolochick served on the faculty of the PeabodyConservatory of Music in Baltimore from 1979to 2020 in a multitude of conducting positionsincluding Associate Conductor of Orchestras,Director of Choral Ensembles, and OperaConductor. Not only is he widely recognized asa conductor, but is an award-winning pianistand harpsichordist and regularly conducts fromthe keyboard with Concert Artists, the BaltimoreSymphony Orchestra, and Lincoln’s SymphonyOrchestra. He has also appeared as piano soloistwith the Philadelphia Orchestra and the LosAngeles Chamber Orchestra under the direction ofSir Neville Marriner.Since winning the first Leopold StokowskiConducting Award in 1978 and, as a result,conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra, hecontinues to attract world-wide attention asan orchestral, choral, and operatic conductor.In addition to conducting the Philadelphia andBaltimore Symphony Orchestras, his guestappearances include the Houston Symphony,Chautauqua Symphony, the Opera Companyof Philadelphia, Omaha Symphony, JacksonvilleSymphony, Charleston (SC) SymphonyOrchestra, Aalborg Symphony (Denmark),Daejeon Philharmonic (South Korea), St.2From 1979-1999, Mr. Polochick was on theconducting staff of the Baltimore SymphonyOrchestra as Director of the Symphony Chorus,founder and director of the Baltimore SymphonyChorus Chamber Singers, and frequent guestconductor. During his tenure with the BSO, heestablished annual Holiday Pops and Messiahperformances which have remained Baltimoreholiday traditions for nearly three decades. In thesummer of 1987, Mr. Polochick was conductorof the Musicisti Americani Summer Festivalin Sulmona, Italy. In the autumn of that sameyear, he conducted the Peabody SymphonyOrchestra in Moscow, the first appearance ofan American student orchestra in the SovietUnion. In recognition of the Moscow tour,Mr. Polochick received an ASCAP Award forAdventurous Programming of American Music.In 2000, Mr. Polochick received the Peggy andYale Gordon Achievement Award and was madean honorary member of the Baltimore Music Club.Two years later, he was awarded the covetedJohns Hopkins University Distinguished AlumnusAward. In 2004, he was named Baldwin Scholar atthe University of Notre Dame of Maryland wherehe held lectures, demonstrations, and panels onthe creative act of music. He was awarded the‘Keys to the City’ by Lincoln’s Mayor Coleen Sengin 2007, and in 2010 received a commissionfrom Nebraska Governor David Heineman as anAdmiral in the Nebraska Navy. In 2011, he wasthe only American to serve as an adjudicator forthe Rosa Ponselle International Vocal Competitionin Caiazzo, Italy.Mr. Polochick is frequently asked to share hisknowledge and love of music at various lectureseries, adjudications, and radio broadcasts. Eachyear renowned broadcaster, Marc Steiner, inviteshim to co-host his radio program in Baltimore,celebrating music of the holiday season. He isalso a regular panelist on Face the Music, a radioreview program of recordings hosted by JonathanPalevsky of WBJC-FM, Baltimore. For nearly twodecades, he and Mr. Palevsky have been cohostingWBJC’s annual Christmas Program.Although Mr. Polochick resides in Baltimore, heconsiders Lincoln to be his second home. On eachvisit he contributes to the community throughLSO’s public performances, school visits,workshops, master classes, and other educationalactivities, making classical music accessible toeveryone in Lincoln.
