Topic overviewWhat do we all learn about?At the beginning of each half term of the academic year, pupils are given arange of History and Geography topics and then work with class teachers andsupport staff to choose and plan their learning journey. We use these areas toensure as many cross-curricular links as possible.In addition, key skills are embedded throughout the curriculum and taughtexplicitly in each topic. Through stand-alone topics, Crowlands Primary Schooltakes pride in incorporating opportunities for deeper learning to happen arounddiversity of race, culture and religion.
We learn so many new skills...At the heart of our ever-developing curriculum is providing our pupils withthe necessary skills needed to find new ways of thinking and problem solvingand build confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration andco-operation.Our pupils are immersed into their learning, gaining valuable skills from mapreading to creating maps on computers; from analysing historical sources toestablishing their own opinion about past event; from looking at currentglobal issues to finding solutions and ways in which they can be helpful.On their journey to gain the skills, our pupils experience a range oflearning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom enabling themto engage with the natural world, exploring and discovering our localand wider environment via Virtual Reality headsets.To enhance their learning, our pupils have access to many facilities like theBiodome, Library Bus, Food Technology Room and outside ground markingswhich allow them to be exposed to the prospect of using andapplying their skills.
