OUR VISION...

Proud to succeed at all stages of life.

Our Creative Curriculum...… delivered

At Crowlands we aim to provide a creative and balanced curriculum that

meets the needs of all our pupils. Our curriculum has a greater focus on

ensuring that from EYFS and throughout the primary years, pupils will gain

skills and knowledge at each stage. Moreover, our curriculum is tailored to

support each of our pupils in building their experiences and knowledge and

applying this to new skills.

Our Creative Curriculum is designed to develop curiosity and creativity

through inspiring, engaging and challenging lessons, where teamwork and

collaboration is at the heart of all that we do.. We are proud to be a school

of racial, social, religious and cultural diversity and our curriculum most

definitely reflects this.

intent

At Crowlands Primary School we aim to develop motivated pupils

who are able to learn for themselves with a skills base to support this,

enabling them to positively respond to challenges. This will be achieved by

providing:

+ First hand experiences to enhance the context by which children access

and consolidate knowledge.

+ Our pupils have ownership over their own learning and work with their

class teacher to map their learning journey for each term.

+ Longer and dedicated periods of time to learn in depth and allow for

spaced repetition for over learning.

+ Opportunities for cross-curricular learning which are harnessed to

develop pupil’s working memory through grouping together skills and

knowledge.

+ Lessons are enhanced in order to maximise our pupils learning

experiences through trips and onsite visitors.

+ Opportunities for deeper learning to happen around diversity of

race, culture and religion, through stand-alone topics.

implementation

To ensure effective delivery of the curriculum, the statutory requirements for

each subject within a key stage are identified and cross-curricular links are

harnessed to provide cohesion within units of learning. This is outlined in our

curriculum maps. Progression is achieved by identifying the skills and

knowledge that children need over time; these are outlined in our Curriculum

Coverage Grids for each subject which contain carefully chosen components

crucial for subsequent learning. These elements are delivered through

well taught and appropriately sequenced lessons and thoughtfully

designed assessments. This provides what we as a school want pupils to

know and be able to do by the time that they leave Crowlands Primary

School.

Crowlands Primary School evaluates how well our children are learning within

the content outlined in the curriculum through:

+ School progress data which is analysed by SLT, middle and subject leaders

and class teachers

+ Book scrutiny and moderation sessions within our school and schools in the

wider community

+ Lesson observations and learning walks

+ Pupil and parent voice

+ Staff feedback

+ End of topic evaluation

The curriculum that we offer is broad and balanced and aims to not overload

pupils with information but enables them to assess what they already know

and build upon this. The impact of the curriculum is that our pupils are

well-motivated and engaged in their education with a growing knowledge and

skill base which prepares them for effective transition for their next stage in

learning and equips them for life.

Topic overview

What do we all learn about?

At the beginning of each half term of the academic year, pupils are given a

range of History and Geography topics and then work with class teachers and

support staff to choose and plan their learning journey. We use these areas to

ensure as many cross-curricular links as possible.

In addition, key skills are embedded throughout the curriculum and taught

explicitly in each topic. Through stand-alone topics, Crowlands Primary School

takes pride in incorporating opportunities for deeper learning to happen around

diversity of race, culture and religion.

We learn so many new skills...

At the heart of our ever-developing curriculum is providing our pupils with

the necessary skills needed to find new ways of thinking and problem solving

and build confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration and

co-operation.

Our pupils are immersed into their learning, gaining valuable skills from map

reading to creating maps on computers; from analysing historical sources to

establishing their own opinion about past event; from looking at current

global issues to finding solutions and ways in which they can be helpful.

On their journey to gain the skills, our pupils experience a range of

learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom enabling them

to engage with the natural world, exploring and discovering our local

and wider environment via Virtual Reality headsets.

To enhance their learning, our pupils have access to many facilities like the

Biodome, Library Bus, Food Technology Room and outside ground markings

which allow them to be exposed to the prospect of using and

applying their skills.

BROAD

& BALANCED

Our Creative Curriculum prides itself on being both broad and balanced,

meaning our pupils benefit from a wealth of knowledge and skills. Each

subject is given the proper amount of time over a three week period, meaning

pupils can engage in complex Design & Technology projects, spend an

afternoon planning or cooking a dish in a Food Technology lesson or enjoying

brushing up on their coding skills in Computing.

Each six week half term includes two Creative, two Technology and two Global

weeks so that subjects are revisited throughout the term and the school year.

Within each week, pupils still spend the appropriate amount of time focusing

on Reading, Writing and Numeracy skills. In addition to this, our staff make a

concerted effort to make as many lessons as possible cross-curricular;

meaning mathematical skills can be applied to experiments

in Science, literacy knowledge can be applied to creative writing and

reading skills picked up are put to use in accessing the wider National

Curriculum. This strategy of planning allows adequate time for each subject

and has given our pupils a real sense of excitement about their learning. All

our pupils are very clear about their favourite lesson for each week!

At Crowlands, the broader curriculum and all its subject areas are not

sacrificed in place of exam preparation or SATS revision. We understand that

to make a child confident and willing to try new things, they need to be given

as many opportunities to try new things as possible.

DIVERSITY

RECOGNISING & acknowledging OUR

CULTURAL COMMUNITY

At Crowlands Primary School, we are proud to be a school of racial, social,

religious and cultural diversity and our curriculum reflects this. Not only do

our pupils represent a multitude of diverse backgrounds, they are also

instilled with respect and tolerance that means they actively appreciate

differences in others.

Our aim is that all our pupils, no matter their background, can engage with

the curriculum. So, we look for opportunities across all areas of the

curriculum to celebrate people who have made a difference and

contributed to our society across a variety of races, cultures and

religions.

IT’S ALL ABOUT democracy, the rule of LAW,

individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance

of those with different Faiths and beliefs

At Crowlands Primary School, we think it is important to teach pupils key

values of British culture across the curriculum, particularly in PSHE lessons,

and we embed this into everyday school life.

We concentrate on 5 main areas:

TOLERANCE - At Crowlands, we encourage all pupils to have a fair,

objective and permissive attitude to those whose beliefs

are different to their own.

RULE OF LAW - All pupils follow the same school rules which means they

can learn in a happy and safe environment.

RESPECT - All pupils are encouraged to treat all staff, other pupils and the

rest of the community with respect.

DEMOCRACY - All pupils have a say in their learning and school, via thought

showers, which help teachers plan topic lessons, school council meetings

and pupil voice sessions, which allow pupils a say in the way they are being

taught.

LIBERTY - Pupils are free to, and are actively encouraged to, have

their own beliefs, faiths, likes and dislikes and they are celebrated

for doing so.

Spiritual, moral, social, cultural...

SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) is about developing the whole

child. It can be delivered in a number of ways in schools; through the school

climate or ethos, PSHE, Citizenship, RE and Healthy Schools. SMSC should

also run through all curriculum areas.

How are each of these catered for at Crowlands Primary School?

Let us tell you about Crowlands curriculum!

I love our

Creative Curriculum

as we get to discuss and share

what we would like to learn

within our topics, we have a say

over our learning journey!

Our lessons are fun

and engaging and I

really enjoy working with my

friends as we get to challenge

ourselves.. The teachers also use

a range of resources to support

us when we learn, from books,

videos and virtual reality to

visitors in school.

The teachers and TAs are always

there to help us and improve our

work. They make our learning

experience a fun one. I feel

proud of myself when I have

learned a new skill and I know

my teacher is always proud of

me too!

Let us tell you about

I love teaching our Creative

Curriculum lessons! When planning

the children’s lessons, the children

and I discuss what they already

know, want they want to learn and

find out and how they would like to

learn about their topics. I am then

able to use their responses to plan

their learning journey.

To be a part of the very

initial development of the Creative

Curriculum back when it all began in 2013

and seeing the changes throughout the years

has been a real pleasure. I have seen how the

curriculum has been creatively adapted over

time to ensure that it continues to provide our

pupils with enriching opportunities to work

collaboratively and learn something

new each day.
