6 Libraries Re-Open Five St Helens libraries re-opened on 12th April as lockdown restrictions eased. St Helens Library, Chester Lane Library, Eccleston Library, Newton-le-Willows Library and Parr Library are now fully open for those residents who want to browse, borrow books and use the PC facilities. In addition, Click and Collect facilities are now available at Haydock Library, Moss Bank Library and Thatto Heath Library. These three sites will all offer essential computer access, which is available to book by appointment for up to 45 minutes at a time during opening hours. This is to assist with essential tasks such as study, access to benefits, searches for work and training opportunities. For library members wanting to use the Click and Collect service, you can view the catalogue here; https:// sthlibrarieswp.koha-ptfs.co.uk/ and reserve up to 6 books for free. Rainford in Bloom launched in 2014 and won awards from In Bloom from 2015-2018, before landing a Gold award in 2019 for the in the Large Village Category, the highest individual award available. The organising committee meets every month in the Rainford Village Hall and is supported by more than 30 regular volunteers, including those from ‘Friends of Rainford Station’. The volunteers work in groups that plan and manage specific projects, planting schemes and planters throughout the year. Each year the team looks to improve new areas while maintaining and developing existing projects. Rainford in Bloom is self-funded by donations from the community, fundraising events and applications for grants from various organisations and groups throughout the year. Volunteers don’t have to be expert gardeners. The team has a diverse range of skills including experienced gardeners and horticulturists, new gardeners, volunteers with building experience and also those with business expertise to help with fund raising and finance. To contact the group, either message them via their Facebook page @RainfordinBloom or email rainfordinbloom@gmail.com Volunteers Wanted St Aidan’s Church in Billinge is looking for volunteers to help tidy and improve the grounds around the church. The church’s aim is to make different spaces in the church grounds more relaxing and pleasant for those people who visit their loved ones resting places. They also want to plant areas with spring bulbs and some trees and shrubs. As part of the eco-Church awareness strategy, the church plans to erect bird boxes, bat boxes and other natural habitat areas to encourage our local wildlife.
