LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

2020 was a challenging year

The stress and economic impact of the pandemic this

past year hurt young people in heart breaking ways. We

immediately went into emergency mode to be there

for these youth. With your unwavering support, we

continued critical services for youth and kept them and

our staff safe.

but because of you

Our community donated holiday meals and gifts in record

numbers. You signed up to be volunteer mentors, and

you donated your stimulus checks.

we kept showing up,

While being safe, our shelters took in youth who would

have fallen through the cracks. Our outreach teams

delivered food boxes, masks, and supplies to families

trying to survive. Staff became sanitizing experts,

distance learning educators, and exercise coaches.

We held our first virtual fundraiser, technology became a

more important tool, and we supported staff with extra

pay and a healthy environment. We grew our Outreach

program from 1 to 3 street outreach teams for consistent

connections in rural areas, and opened more housing and

options for older youth in our Next Steps program.

We also purchased the Albany House 24/7 Shelter

(previously leased).

the youth thrived,

The most youth graduated high school in our services

and the most youth began their first jobs. Pivoting our

positive activities meant youth continued to have creative

opportunities to try new things and build confidence.

and grow as an organization and look forward to the

coming year.

With the help of a new grant and learning cohort, our

Mentoring program is growing. Learn why Mentoring

is important on pages 3 & 4.

We will soon be updating our Albany House to safely

shelter more youth.

Youth Voice is being included in all aspects of our

work from program design to fundraising.

Our understanding of the impacts of family poverty

and LGBT issues has been a cultural diversity

strength of our organization, as well as bi-lingual and

bi-cultural awareness and practices. We will continue

to increase cultural competency in race and ethnicity

throughout our programs and practices. Learn why

this is important on pages 5 & 6.

We will take the time to reflect and celebrate.

Jackson Street opened our first shelter in Corvallis

Sept. 10, 2001. We are grateful to all of you who

have been supporting us since the beginning, and

to all our new friends and donors. Join us as we

commemorate 20 years of uplifting youth in our

community together.

Stay safe and healthy,

Ann P Craig

and we are filled with hope for

the future.

Although our focus shifted to the urgent needs created

by the pandemic (and literal fires!) we continue to learn

PROGRAM SHOWCASE:

JACKSON STREET MENTORING

Like our other services, Jackson Street Mentoring is

youth-focused. Our goal is to match youth with an adult

they enjoy being with and can trust that could become a

permanent connection in their life.

Mentors (trained volunteers) are caring community

members who want to build a healthy relationship with a

vulnerable youth to cheer them on and support them.

Mentees (youth) get to spend quality one-on-one time

with their mentor doing activities, accomplishing personal

goals, or just hanging out and talking.

I’m grateful to be a part of the

Mentoring program—it’s opened a door

to an entire community of inspirational

people, including my Mentee, Jordan.

He would doubtless be surprised to

discover that his energy and resilience

constantly affirm my dedication to

Jackson Street’s mission. —Seymour

JORDAN & SEYMOUR

Me and my Mentor, Seymour, have a good friendship

and I feel glad to know him. We like going on walks

together and I enjoy talking with and listening to him.

I especially like how insightful and mentally

stimulating our conversations can get! —Jordan

Jackson Street

is dedicated to ending youth homelessness locally

and as part of an important national movement.

We are leading local efforts to ensure that youth

homelessness is prevented whenever possible,

and that unaccompanied youth who do experience

homelessness are on a quick path to safe, stable,

and permanent housing.

Our continuum of Outreach, Shelter,

and Next Steps leads all youth to

safety, stability, and well-being.

We know that certain groups of young people are

more likely to experience homelessness and believe

we need targeted strategies to speed progress

toward ending youth homelessness in our region.*

LETTER FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT

Dear Friends of Jackson Street

As I enter my second year as President of the Board of Directors, I look

back on a very trying season with amazement. Our staff have done an

incredible job during these challenging times and have continued to

provide services to at-risk and homeless youth. This commitment to

follow through consistently and professionally in a caring manner is

one of the characteristics that brought me to Jackson Street.

Even with all the challenges of COVID, Jackson Street has remained

strong and focused. Moving forward, the challenges will only increase

and your support and generosity are needed more than ever. If you are

a current donor, Ambassador, or volunteer I thank you, and encourage

you to consider new ways you can expand your vital role. Your

resources and generosity will be used to support at-risk, youth in need,

and homeless youth in our community.

Thank you again for all you do to make what we do possible.
