Visitor numbers in all venues are restricted tofollow current government law.• Please wait to be invited in if the Open House is already atfull visitor capacity.• Visitors who have downloaded the NHS Track and Traceapp will be asked to check in via a QR code at each venue.Other visitors will be asked to write down contact detailson entry to venues.• If you are asked to queue please do not block pavementsor other house entrances. Alongside Brighton Fringe, andfollowing on from Brighton Festival, AOH is excited tobe a part of the cultural renewal and recovery of ourcity. The AOH Festival will be offering visitors the firstglimpse of brilliant new work from artists and makersemerging from the months of lockdown.This year, many Open Houses are also offering art inthe garden, so you can make the most of our move toa summer month viewing artwork outside in artists’gardens. As well as visiting an array of inspiring artworksin Open Houses in the city, you can take a day out to thecountryside, exploring our new Beyond Brighton trail,leading out along the coast to villages across the Downs.And don’t miss our wonderful student and emergingartists’ exhibitions, sited in central Brighton shops.Alongside the regular AOH Festival, where artistswelcome visitors into their homes, studios and gardens,we are offering a new Virtual Open Houses strand. Thisincludes online video tours round artists’ houses andstudios, as well individual online galleries. In real orvirtual settings, you can hear about the artists’ work, theprocesses of making and ideas behind it and buy workdirectly from the artists and makers.The Artist Open Houses festival is a community event,encouraging participation from artists at all stages oftheir careers, from school and college students, throughyoung emergent artists, to established and professionalartists and makers. Many charities supporting artistswith mental health issues, learning disabilities and olderartists in residential care are taking part, reflecting theirexperiences of the last few months through their art.More than ever this year it is important to support ourlocal artists and makers who help to make Brighton andHove the vibrant city that it is. Many AOH artists havemade great use of the last few months, finding spaceto explore new ideas and ways of working. This festivaloffers the perfect opportunity to discover really exciting,inspiring and distinctive new work, as well as providing agreat day out around the city and beyond.All venues will be Covid safe, maintaining social distanceguidelines, providing facemasks and hand sanitiser inaccordance with government Covid-19 law.AOH would like to thank Arts Council England andBrighton and Hove City Council for their valuable supportover the last few months.Judy StevensAOH Festival Director3
