Amazing wildlife encounters await!
From birdwatchers to families, there’s something for everyone. With
amazing close-up wildlife encounters and seasonal activities, it’s no
wonder Slimbridge is an award winning day out.
2021 marks Slimbridge’s 75th Anniversary and the opening of exciting
new exhibits: from May Half Term explore Mission Possible and learn
about the world’s rarest goose, the nene. From summer, immerse
yourself in the open air Living Wetland Theatre and Waterscapes Aviary.

• Berkeley Castle, a hidden gem in the Cotswolds

Berkeley Castle is a beautiful and historic Castle, built in 1153 and still
the home of the Berkeley family. It is a great day-out for all the family,
hosting special events during school holidays and throughout the year.
The Castle is steeped in over 860 years of British history. It is best known
as the scene of the brutal murder of Edward II in 1327 and for being
besieged by Parliamentary troops in 1645. Over 24 generations of
Berkeley’s have gradually transformed a Norman fortress into the lovely
family home it is today. The Castle is surrounded by lovely terraced
gardens with flower borders, a lily pond, Elizabeth I’s bowling green and
sweeping lawns. Garden enthusiasts can enjoy a stunning display of
roses and many rare plants and flowers in Berkeley Castle’s magnificent
terraced gardens in June and July with admission included within the
entry cost to the Castle.

Fun for all the family down on the Farm
This small unspoiled family run farm has been run by the same family
for over 200 years and is located in the horseshoe bend of the River
Severn only 5 miles from J13 of the M5. Children love to help feed the
friendly animals and run and play in freedom and safety. Set in 70
acres there is plenty to explore and everything you need for a fun day
out down on the farm in the countryside.
Daily activities aim to get everyone interacting with the animals, big or
small! You can meet all the animals out in the fields including goats,
Gloucester Old Spot pigs, cattle, sheep and Shetland ponies. In the
farmyard you will find chickens, ducks and geese, as well as rabbits
and guinea pigs.
During rainy days or for a bit of shelter from the sun, there are traditional
games to play and children can ride on tractors indoors in the Big Barn.
Unwind in the picnic area with the whole family or relax with a coffee
in the café.

Get Closer to birds of prey in the Cotswolds
Located near Moreton-in-Marsh, there’s a dazzling collection of some of the
world’s most beautiful and elegant birds. From eagles, hawks and vultures,
to falcons and enchanting owls, the Centre is full of fascinating sights.
With various demonstrations taking place throughout the day, visitors
will gain an insight into the wonderful world of birds of prey while also
learning about the importance of their conservation and the work that
goes on at the Centre.
Visitors are able to enjoy some hands on experiences and gain a greater
knowledge of the ancient art of falconry during some of the special
experience days which are held until the end of October. The popular
Owl Encounters give a special insight into these magnificent creatures.
Many people who visit the Centre express their wish to help with the
upkeep of the birds. By adopting a certain bird of prey you can help with
the feeding, housing and any veterinary fees for the following 12 months.

Motoring Museum and Toy Collection is waiting to be discovered.
The museum is home to an impressive collection of over 50 vehicles
including cars, motorcycles, pedal cars and caravans displayed over
seven unique galleries.
The museum takes you on a fascinating journey through the 20th
Century, overflowing with vintage vehicles, hundreds of original enamel

played an important role in
England’s history, boasting
royal connections that stretch
back over 1,000 years.
Visitors can walk in the footsteps
of past kings and queens

Elizabeth I and Lady Jane Grey. It
is also the only private castle in
England to have a queen buried
within its grounds - Katherine Parr,
the last of Henry VIII’s six wives.
Stroll through 10 beautiful gardens,
visit the rare-breeds pheasantry

Adventure Playground, featuring
a huge fun fort, 10-piece obstacle
course, zip wire and swings.
Visit by 6 June to see the Elephant
Family, proudly on display
throughout the grounds. Witness

Elephant migration with over 30
life-sized elephant sculptures

before they move to London’s

Take a Walk on
the Wild Side
Cotswold Wildlife Park is one
of the largest zoological
collections in the UK, with over
1,500 animals from 250 different
species, set in 160 acres of
beautiful parkland with plenty
of space to enjoy nature.
The stunning gardens, themed
borders, exotic planting and
seasonal displays make a
beautiful backdrop to the
animals which range from the
iconic Rhinos to tiny Leaf-cutter
Ants. The collection is home
to many endangered species,
including Humboldt Penguins,
Wolverines, Red Pandas and
Asiatic Lions. The fascinating
Reptile House contains one of
the most interesting collections
in the country.

Pedalabikeaway is the only bike hire company in the Forest of Dean
where all the cycling trails depart from - from the scenic 10-mile,
traffic-free Family Trail, to the more challenging Verderers’ and
Freeminers mountain bike trails and a wide range of downhill tracks -

NEW FOR 2021 – Pedalabikeaway is pleased to announce that they have
a new bike hire location in the Wye Valley! Based at the NDAC (National
Diving and Activity Centre) just outside Chepstow, they are based at the
start of the brand new Wye Valley Greenway. A 7km traffic free trail that
goes to Tintern through the 1.1km Tidenham Tunnel, running alongside
the beautiful river Wye and finishing at the 12th Century Tintern Abbey.
This unforgettable cycle path is open from April to October.

Fantastic adventure in the trees and on the ground
Award-winning outdoor adventure activities for all the family. Set within
the beautiful Forest of Dean, families and friends of all ages can unleash
their inner Ape on Tree Top Challenge and Tree Top Adventure, or explore
the forest floor on epic all-terrain Segways. It’s a day out like no other.
Tree Top Challenge: You will be briefed for safety before you fly down
zip-wires, leap off Tarzan Swings and tackle obstacles whilst enjoying
some breathtaking scenery.
Forest Segways: Get off the beaten track and Go Ape Forest Segway
- an epic adventure with a down-to-earth twist.
Go Ape Beechenhurst Lodge, Forest of Dean (three miles away from
Mallards Pike Lake) is home to the Tree Top Adventure (for younger
adventurers) and Tree Top Adventure Plus for children above 1.2m
and over 6 years. This extension loop is perfect for thrill seekers who’ve
smashed the Treetop Adventure but aren’t ready, or don’t have time,
for the full Mallards Pike Treetop Challenge course. Designed with the
younger family in mind you can either harness up and join in or cheer
on from the forest floor.

Set across a stunning and fully interactive site, the Dean Heritage Centre
protects and preserves the unique history and heritage of the beautiful
Forest of Dean.
With five acres to explore and a wide range of attractions, artefacts
and displays, the Centre offers something for everyone, all set against a
spectacular forest backdrop.
Five on site galleries bring the history of the Forest to life, from the Ice Age
to the present day; along with a reconstructed Foresters cottage, charcoal
burner’s camp, Victorian schoolroom and woodland playground to enjoy
as part of your visit.
Relax in the Dean Heritage Centre Gallery & Coffee Shop to enjoy the
current art exhibition and sample delicious homemade snacks and cakes
overlooking the millpond and forest.

All weather fun in the Forest of Dean
Come rain or shine, the Dick Whittington Park is the place to visit for family
fun, exercise and relaxation. Set in a beautiful quiet location the Park offers
a massive indoor heated Play Barn for children which includes slides,
climbing frames, trampolines, climbing wall and wavy mirrors.
Venture outside to enjoy the Hidden Valley nature trails. Wander around
the lake, along the pathways and into the ancient wood to experience
the Gloucestershire apple orchard and even say hello to the horses.
Finish your walk in the Sensory Garden enjoying the scents, sound and
touch. The Sensory Garden is wheelchair friendly. Dogs are welcome
along the walks but must be kept on leads.
The Who’s Who Gallery offers a fascinating insight into a range of
Gloucestershire characters including the Harry Potter author and Eddie the Eagle.
Food and drink is available in the restaurant. Picnic areas can be found
around the Park and the Sensory Garden. Fishing is also available.

tiny little owl to the giant Steller’s sea eagle - it’s the perfect day
out for all the family!

If you’re looking for something extra special, check out the ICBP
experience days (suitable for over 8’s, prebooked only). Get
‘beak to beak’ with some of the world’s top predators or spend a

Nature in Art is the world’s first museum and art gallery dedicated
to all kinds of art inspired by nature. Displays embrace two and

artists. Coupled with an exciting temporary exhibitions programme,

A popular attraction at Nature in Art is the artist in residence

The Museum of Gloucester is the most unique cultural and family
