KATY VIRTUAL SCHOOL RECOGNIZED FOR
OUTSTANDING DISTANCE LEARNING
At Katy Independent School District, online learning has become
an increasingly popular and effective method of education, by
both students and parents, because of the expanded learning
opportunities available. Due to its commitment to offer distance
education, the District’s Katy Virtual School (KVS) has been
recognized by the Texas Distance Learning Association (TxDLA)
as the 2021 K-12 winner of the Outstanding Commitment to
Excellence and Innovation in Distance Education recognition.
“Katy ISD was the only K-12 school district in Texas to receive such
a prestigious award,” said Susan Richards, Katy ISD Instructional
Technology e-Learning Manager. “KVS has expanded over the years
to provide secondary students quality instruction outside of normal
school hours and during the summer to support their graduation
plans,” added Richards.
KVS launched in 2013 with a primary goal of offering choice and
flexibility for rigorous online courses developed and taught by Katy
ISD teachers. Over 45 Advanced Placement (AP), Katy Advanced
Program and academic level courses were available to students
this year with more courses being added each year. Just last year,
over 4,000 students utilized KVS to reach their educational goals.
KVS is a different program from the recently developed Katy Virtual
Academy (KVA), which was created for online learning during the
pandemic.

providing Houston area women and girls with the tools needed to be

A summer kids’ event called Treasured VBS will be hosted at Family Life
Assembly of God, 24911 Roesner Road, Katy from Monday, June 14 th to
Thursday, June 17 th . At Treasured, kids discover God’s greatest treasure
isn’t diamonds, gems or gold - it’s them! Kids participate in memorable
Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building
games, experience one-of-a-kind Bible Adventures, collect Bible Memory
Buddies to remind them of God’s love and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos
they’ll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to
look for evidence of God all around them through something called God
Sightings. Each day concludes with the Closing Quest that gets everyone
involved in living what they’ve learned. Kids at Treasured VBS will join
a mission project effort to provide mosquito nets for draping over beds
to protect kids while they sleep. The nets will be distributed all over the
world-wherever mosquitoes may carry malaria. Treasured is for kids from
3 years old and toilet trained to kids who just finished 5 th grade and will

Howdy! Our names are Kai, Cazden, Robbie and Jack, we are four SLHS
Alumni and Texas Film School Graduates. For the past year we have
been creating Katy’s newest and only Animation and Filmmaking camp,
Creator Camp! Our goal is to share with students the wonders of film and
animation without the dullness of note taking and lectures. We designed
our 3-day camps so that students will learn hands-on and in real-time,
creating Special effects, Green Screen effects, Sound effects and loads
more. Each day, students will come home with a new movie they created
themselves and on the last day we will transform a classroom into a
mock Oscars Film Festival where your child will pick their favorite film
that they made to be shown on the big screen! We are running our first
camps this summer and we would love to have some support from the
local community to get us off to a good start. Camps are held at Mirus

ROSE Therapeutic Farm Summer Camps are an exciting way to light
up any young person’s summer. Our camps provide unique, hands-on
opportunities for learning, growth, and fun. Campers spend their time
here immersed in the natural world, with animals and the environment.
Each camp is loaded with creative, enriching activities meant to help
your kiddos connect with nature and learn how to enjoy “the simple life.”
This is meant to be a real farm/ranch life experience so we will get dirty!
We will also be outside all day. We have a large barn where we will do our
crafts, eat lunch and other activities but it is not air-conditioned. Please
have your kiddos dress accordingly. If they don’t like being outdoors or
getting dirty, this may not be the camp for them.
* 1 to 4 day sessions available.
*Our camps are geared toward children ages 6 – 12.
*Each camp will have 18 or less participants. We must have at least 5
campers to start each camp.
Lunch can be provided or you can send a bag lunch with your kiddos.
We have a cooler we will keep these in. We will have access to fresh iced
water all day. Of course you are welcome to send a lunch with your kiddo
if you choose.

The AFA Summer Music Festival offers intensive music-making

family destination! Get away and soak in the fun during the Discovery
Center’s splish-splashing, flip-flopping “Fun Summer Vibes.” Set sail on a

Don’t miss thrills, interactive activities and live demonstrations at Science
Station. Our galleries are filled to the brim with exhilarating explorations,
including Kidtropolis, USA - a city for kids, run by kids! (which also
resembles businesses in Fort Bend), the electrifying Shocks & Jolts which
explores circuits and electromagnetism, How Does It Work? which sparks
curiosity and discovery and Cum Yah Gullah which takes you on a cultural
journey to the Sea Islands.
The Discovery Center will be open from Tuesday through Saturday, from
10 AM to 6 PM. Don’t forget to book you visit in advance as the Discovery
Center will be operating at a limited capacity. We’re adhering to CDC
cleaning and safety guidelines - requiring face masks, maintaining 6-feet
