Hope's Door June 2021 Newsletter

At our virtual Spring Gala on May 6 we had so much fun, and
hope you did, as well! If you were able to participate in our
Zoom and play the Hope’s Door 40th Anniversary game with us,
you may have met some of our amazing and dedicated staff
and learned a few new things about our work.
A theme of the evening, besides seeing friends old and new,
and enjoying the taste sensations of the three Plum Plums
cheeses with the Friulano white wine from Italy and the
Bordeaux Merlot blend from France, was communicating the
profound impact our donors have on the work we do at Hope’s
Door.
The event raised more than $100,000 for Hope’s Door programs
and services, thanks to your kindness and generosity! A special

How can we make it easier and safer for individuals to make
court appearances and file legal documents during COVID and
beyond? Faith houses around the County have come together
to find a way, through the new “Faith-Based Court Access”
program (FCA). Houses of worship across Westchester County
now operate as safe havens for persons who don’t have access
to personal home computer equipment, or who may not find it
safe or easy to use computers in their homes.
Hope's Door is one of eleven service providers who partnered
with the program beginning in 2020. There are currently six
participating houses of worship spanning five cities in
Westchester, including in Yonkers, Peekskill, New Rochelle,
Mount Vernon and White Plains.
Brittany Miraldi, paralegal for the Hope's Door Legal Center
said, "It has been increasingly hard since the pandemic for
victims/survivors to be able to speak freely in their homes with
their abusers present. Having access to safe places for their
court appearances is essential to their safety and achieving a
life free of abuse. This program has exponentially reduced the
challenges that victims of domestic abuse face as they try to
attend virtual court appearances."

In a 2020 New York State Unified Court System press release , County Executive George Latimer said, “The COVID-19 pandemic
has caused a tremendous strain on some of our most vulnerable residents. It is my hope that the FCA Initiative will fill a void for
those litigants who have been unable to remotely access justice services, providing an avenue for them to participate virtually
in court proceedings and file documents through the court system’s electronic portals, all at a location where they feel
comfortable and safe."

We are excited to announce two important grants received,
a two-year grant from Phelps Community Corporation
dba Phelps Healthcare Foundation, and a grant from
Entertainment Industry Foundation.

These two grants will allow us to partner in the Westchester
County Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT), in The Entertainment Industry Foundation serves as a
