ADVERTISING FEATURE A truly moving experience Moving house is literally and physically a moving experience. The process is littered with highs and lows. From the initial search to the actual move, the process can be challenging. By Angus Russell, Business Development Manager at Britannia Quickmove... I have been involved in the moving industry for over 30 years and I have seen a lot of the difficulties our clients go through. I have been a directly elected director of the British Association of Removers for 6 years and for the last 14 years, an active industry qualified trainer. I now own and run my own family business Britannia Lanes of Somerset and Bristol with my wife Maria. The fees charged by the solicitors doing the conveyancing, estate agents, mortgage lenders and stamp duty all have to be taken into consideration and often the moving budget seems to generally be the area that people try to save on. Why? The movers are the people that are handling the memories and possessions that make up your life story. These are the people that aim to deliver your dreams and aspirations on the big day. It sounds cheesy but take a quick moment to think about exactly what the movers are doing for you. Your “stuff” is part of your history and memories. Besides anyone can do a move can’t they? They surveyor who sees you, either by Video survey or in person, will assess access for vehicles, timings, storage and most importantly your needs. Our trained staff would rank master in any other trade. They have the ability to do jigsaws in 3D with nothing that truly fits together and make sure it arrives in the same condition. They work to a hard deadline (your completion day and time) and will always try to do so with a smile. Remember we do this everyday not just every 5 to 8 years. They can dismantle and reassemble furniture, manoeuvre large items through tight access points. They have the ability to box your possessions in carefully, usually in a matter of 1 or 2 days when it would possibly take you a week or more. Why the difference? Well our packers don’t suffer from “Oh Look”! syndrome as I call it. We have even been known to help with interior design! We can’t guarantee stress free but we can pre-plan and work to ensure that we do our best to make things run smoothly for you through the process. Every move is individual, there is no such thing as an average move so the importance of planning cannot be emphasised enough. Let’s face it nobody is actually average, are they? Leaving the selection of your mover to the last minute is an issue that can affect your whole experience. I would recommend that as soon as you have agreed a sale that you contact a mover to discuss your needs. This will mean that advice can be given on the whole process and we can help guide you through the obstacles that you may face. This will also help with budget and what is actually needed for you. This is particularly important this year as the stamp duty holiday reduces at the end of June and finishes completely at the end of September. This will result in a large number of moves taking place in the final week of these months. Finally, my recommendation is to use a British Association of Removers mover, they all have a prepayment guarantee and work to terms and conditions that have been tested to ensure that they do not put the customer at a disadvantage.
