<strong>2021</strong> SA Motocross Nationals Rover Race Report:<br />

Round 2 of the <strong>2021</strong> South African National Motocross Championship<br />
took place over the long weekend at the Rover Raceway<br />
in Gqeberha.<br />
Yup you read that correctly.<br />
Try <strong>and</strong> say it. We dare you! It used to be Port Elizabeth. At least<br />
we can still say Rover…<br />
Anyway – the famous s<strong>and</strong> track provided challenging <strong>and</strong> exciting<br />
racing.<br />
In MX 1, Tristan Purdon was untouchable, racing to a double<br />
victory over David Goosen who finished in 2nd with two second<br />
place finishes <strong>and</strong> Anthony Raynard who rounded off the podium<br />
in 3rd with two third place finishes.<br />
Royce Griffin <strong>and</strong> Seth van den Abeele had a mid-pack dice to<br />
finish 4th <strong>and</strong> 5th respectively. Jesse Wright was also in the mix<br />
to finish 6th.<br />

MX 2 saw Camden McLellan who is back in, put pressure on<br />
the competitive Tristan Purdon to finish 1-2 for seconds overall.<br />
Purdon went 2-1 to take the day’s overall <strong>and</strong> extend his championship<br />
advantage. Cameron Durow went 3-3 for 3rd ahead of<br />
David Goosen <strong>and</strong> Anthony Raynard.<br />

Dalton Venter MX2.<br />
Ethan Hofmann 125 High School.<br />
The 125 High School class saw Stav Orl<strong>and</strong>’s 3-2 finish was<br />
enough to take the overall for the day. Barend du Toit went 2-4 to<br />
secure 2nd place <strong>and</strong> Miguel de Waal went 6-3 for 3rd overall. This<br />
after Jonathan Mlimi was excluded from Heat 1 on a yellow flag<br />
transgression, but went on to win Heat 2, <strong>and</strong> Heat 1 winner Ethan<br />
Hoffman retired from Heat 2. Luke Grundy <strong>and</strong> Kyle Townsend<br />
fought it out for 4th <strong>and</strong> 5th.<br />

Ladies:<br />
Kayla Raaff <strong>and</strong> Leah Heygate shared out the 1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd places<br />
between the two heats with Raaff taking the overall <strong>and</strong> Heygate<br />
the 2nd place. Both are now tied in championship points. Jadene<br />
de Lima finished in 3rd ahead of her sister, Cheyenne de Lima in<br />

Jordan van Wyk took the overall with a 1-3 finish. Emmanuel Bako<br />
secured 2nd overall for the day with Trey Cox finishing in 3rd.<br />

Andrea Mynhardt took a double for the overall ahead of Tyler Petersen<br />

Heat 1 was once again controversial as a number of riders including<br />
top three Jack Pullen, Blake Frost <strong>and</strong> Aiden Henley were excluded<br />
from the race. Jake van Schoor capitalised to take the day’s win<br />
from Nicol Smit <strong>and</strong> Alex Cooper.<br />

Trenton Kretzmann <strong>and</strong> Aiden Retief each took a win with Retief<br />
scoring the overall ahead of Kretzmann. Brody Bircher rounded off<br />
