intuitive perceptions

Artemis Art is pleased to present Intuitive Perceptions, a virtual exhibition by three artists whom we have been closely

working with for the past several years. Featured in this exhibition are recent works by Ajim Juxta, Dedy Sufriadi, and

Syahbandi Samat.

It could be said, arguably, that intuition is something every human possesses, to varying degrees. It is that instinctive

“knowing” without having to be instructed or consciously reason. In some respects, our intuition pertaining to certain

matters is honed through our experience. But certain types of intuition may also be something innate. More often than

not, however, it is a combination of our accumulated life experiences, and an inner mechanism that guides us in order

to ascertain the appropriate actions or choices in a given situation.

In the process of how we perceive the world around us, intuition plays an important role as one of the internal filters

that process the raw information we collect through our physical senses. Take the color red, for instance. Depending

on the situation, it could be the color representing an impending menace, or one foretelling possible fortuitousness; it

is our intuition that informs us of what is the more likely representation, and thus, help guide our actions in response.

For Ajim Juxta, his training as an architect has provided him with the foundational knowledge that informs his intuition,

and helps the artist perceive how mankind’s unrelenting debasement of nature will only bring the world to ruin in the

future. Dedy Sufriadi’s works selected for this exhibition cover two different series of paintings, but they share one

thing in common - the artist’s emphasis on intuition over strict logical and compositional rules. Finally, Syahbandi

Samat’s works, while deeply introspective, articulate conflicts, experiences, and minor traumas, which through his

perceptive intuition emerge as surrealistic dreamscapes, adorned with personal symbols and arcane imagery.
