Nigel Kingston (Chair): So, it was a
great start last night, really, wasn’t
it? I mean, we won, so you must
have some interesting thoughts
about the coming season.
Gareth: Yeah, I mean it’s preseason
still, so, over the years, we
know that we can’t take anything
for granted off pre-season results
but it was a good showing from the
boys, the organisation and some
of the young boys coming in, the
new signings that we’ve got. I think
they’re they’ve added to the squad
again. I think we’ve improved this
squad again this season from last
season. And thank Rob (Couhig);
he’s helping that and Andrew
Howard is back involved, and
Pete Couhig and Missy, obviously,
behind the scenes working. So,
it’s a better club than we were last
year, even though obviously we’re
down a level, but we’re definitely a
better outfit.
The training ground and stadium I
think is evidence, for everyone to
see and hopefully on the pitch as
well, we can do the business. So,
yeah, it excited me last night what
we showed on the pitch – really
well organised and some exciting
prospects for the future.
NK: How much does it mean to
you having fans back for the first
time in over a year?
GA: The first question they (the
reporters) asked me was “What
a great result” and I said, “Forget
the result, look at the fans being
back, hearing the sound of the
cheers and that’s probably about
16 months of iFollow coming out
in frustration over 90 minutes.”
It was brilliant to see them all
back – familiar faces, new faces...
we’ve got this group now that I
haven’t seen before coming up
with shirts on, teenagers, which
you’re thinking ‘is this is now the
start of of a new generation of
Wycombe fans coming through?’. I
think there’s a great feeling around
the town, not just the Club but the
town as well. I used to walk round
the town when I first signed here
and nobody knew who I was, and
now I can’t NOT get stopped ten
times in Wycombe if I walk round.
I’m not saying it’s not great, I love
that, don’t get me wrong, but it’s
great for the football club that
people are actually taking notice
now and we’re finally on the map
and I’m just not allowed to call this
club a little club any more. We are
this big club in League One and we
want to be a contender.
