The mounting process was very slow and stressful, since there was not much cooperation from the helpers

students and artists voluntarily gave a helping hand.
Responsibilities were assigned to each member of the SFA to monitor the hanging of artworks, appropriate
lighting, proper labeling of works, the cleanliness of rooms and toilets. And check all safety devices (access
to fire extinguishers, electric fuse panels, exits, etc.)
Mr. Ramduth was responsible for protocol and welcoming guests.

SUGGESTIONS:
(i) This exhibition featured many very powerful artworks and strongly reflected the
50 years of our independence. We firmly believe that the publication of a catalogue
is very important to document these 50 years of independence through art, to leave
a trace for future generations. The catalogue could be used as an end-of-year gift for
artists, art lovers and MGI's various partners
(ii) The management and the SFA must make a final decision regarding the new name
that would replace "Le Salon de Mai".
(iii) Each year, a different member of SFA must be responsible for curating the
exhibition with the support of all staff. Strict directives must be given to the 3 helpers
attached to SFA to perform the different tasks they are assigned during this period.
Corrective action must be taken in case of non-compliance.
(iv) A budget to be allocated to the curator for best results. Maybe to think of a
production fee for participants.
Thank you
(v) Timing: Start working on the "Salon" as early as possible and give artists at least 2
months time for production.
(vi) Schedule the exhibition according to secondary schools calendar to allow students
to attend the show with their teachers.
(vii) Start discussions with MES to coincide their annual exhibition and ours, so that
secondary school students can benefit from both shows.
(viii) Keep the exhibition open for two weeks from 9h to 5h.
(ix) Look for the possibility of a late opening to attract more visitors. (ie a Friday or a
Saturday, where many Mauritians go out for dinner, this is an opportunity to attract
them to the exhibition, given the proximity of the Bagatel shopping center)
(x) To arrange an exclusive guided night tour for targeted art collectors.
(xi). Keep the educational component in curating the show. Train our students as
cultural mediators to allow guided tours.
(xii) Organise conferences and workshops during the exhibition period.(workshops for
amateurs, children etc)
