AIFMP NEWSDr. Kiran Deshpande was the first speaker of the session. Hespoke about the changes that have taken place in theindustry so far and also explain the workflow andtechnologies included in colour management. He spokeabout Color Management 4.0 and also correlated it toIndustry 4.0.The next speaker, Dr. Aditya Sole, explained the appearanceof the object and also talked about the geometry behind thereflecting surface. After that, Kiran Prayagi discussed thechallenges, which are faced in printing and types of printingprocesses. He also spoke about why the colour of anysubstance changes when we go from indoor light tosunlight.Anoop Venugopalan said that, “Colour management is achallenging part in printing. You can overcome thischallenging part by following the standards.” He also sharedhis experience of printing industry. Participants later hadan interactive question and answer session.The program ended with the concluding remarks byAshwani Gupta, Vice President (North Zone) of AIFMP. Heexpressed his gratitude to all the panelists for giving anexcellent overview of colour management and sharing theirexperiences. Printers are known for exquisitevalue-additions in their print jobs for a long time sinceletterpress era – fonts, graphics, colour, texture, layout, popups,and audio too. Now is the time to incorporate ‘thinflexible electronics’ into printed products, he pointed out,while inviting printers to attend the webinar and find outhow printed sensors can boost their business.The Chief Guest & Keynote Speaker was Prof. K N RajaRao, Director, School of Engineering, AvinashilingamInstitute for Women, Coimbatore. Three speakersenlightened those who attended the webinar - SivanandhanMuthukumar, Prop., Sudan Graphics, Coimbatore; RajeshKulkarni, Managing Director, Keetronics, Pune and Dr.Sudhir Kumar, COO, National Centre for FlexibleElectronics, IIT, Kanpur.Prof. K N Raja Rao, gave an extensive overview of PrintedElectronics (PE), delivering it in a way that could beunderstood by even a layperson. He said the PrintedElectronics market is predicted to grow to USD20.7billionby 2025. He gave an insight of the technologies used for PE,infrastructure and clean rooms, choice of substrate and inksand challenges, sighting sample scenarios from printindustry. He concluded recommending the need to build aPE ecosystem with the academia, industry and researchcentres.Sivanandhan Muthukumar spoke about the ‘Scope of PE forMSMEs.’ Being an MSME printer doing PE jobs for keypadstickers, he said that a mere screen printing unit is sufficientfor doing a certain category of PE products.Rajesh Kulkarni elaborated on how his firm manufacturesmembrane keyboards devices for their customers,specifically in health care industries, railways, Light combataircrafts, etc., where human interface is required. They alsomanufacture touch electrical switches (touchmatic) forover 11 years for Anchor, Lagrande, on stone, wood glass,etc. They produce these switches for clients abroad also.Then he gave a detailed description about a business in inmouldelectronics (IME) which is an advanced technologyof PE, the type of inks required, expertise required,applications of IME. He concluded with success and awardwinning stories of their company.Dr. Sudhir Kumar spoke about the facilities and services atNcFlexe. President AIFMP,Prof Kamal Chopra was attended as Guest SpeakerSpeech by the President AIFMP :Hello Friends,First of all, I am thankful to Mr.Delan F Silva for inviting me tobe with you, I really feelprivileged to be part of thisgathering of Sri Lankan Printers.Today, we have with us the BestPrinting Teacher of the World – theperson who gave new heights to the profession of printingand the only printer in the world to be nominated as theVice Chancellor of a national university of India. Prof. (DR)Rajeendrakumar Anayath, who will be guiding andmotivating us with his golden thoughts and energeticwords.We also have with us Mr Dayaker Reddy President of IndianPrinting Machinery Manufacturer’s Association known asIPAMA. Dayaker is a good friendand always has a supportingattitude. Despite the suffering of themembers of IPAMA due to thepandemic, I am sure, it’s due torichness of the association, they canstill ensures to evolve a system ofnetworking to supply the machinesand equipment on discounted ratesor in easy instalments to the Printersin these dark days at least.Moreover we have with us Mr.Mahesh Yogarajan, to let us knowhow to diagnose our current positionFriends, I am really feeling out of space, in front of theselearned speakers. As a printer I wanted to be on the otherside of the dais today to enjoy the thoughts of thesevisionaries. Therefore, I will not take much time because Idon’t have the patience to wait for listening to thesevisionaries.Broadly the printing can be divided in two sectorsCommercial Printing and Packaging Printing. As we allknow the commercial printing industry has beenprofoundly affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Eventually it isalso written on the wall that Commercial printing is alsogoing to suffer more due to continuously decreasingdemands.Another fact - This part of the printing world is dominatedby Micro and Small printers, going with the statistics morethan 87 per cent printers are Micro or Small. These 87 percent printers who may be in commercial sector or inpackaging sector are suffering more than others due to thePandemic. For them it is a question of survival, I knowmany such printers in India who converted to otherprofessions for their livelihood, some even started small teashops and some preferred to be hawkers to sustain theirlivelihood due to the shutdown. Here we are not going todiscuss what happened, but we must elaborate on whatshould be done now.The first and foremost thing, I always say, all your problemscan be eliminated at once, yes at once, and just now, Believeme, all the problems can be vanished only if you name themCHALLENGEs, May be the problems you feel are in fact theopportunities for you, therefore try to find theopportunities in the challenges.challenge existed.Talk to any successful entrepreneur,or any professional with a positiveattitude, and you’ll find one key traitin common: all of them have aunique mentality that allows themto handle challenges differently.Rather than seeing problems asburdensome forces of opposition,t h e y s e e p r o b l e m s a sopportunities— to learn, grow,improve, or adjust in a way thatleaves you better off than before theWhile discussing the openings, see the opportunity providedby the pandemic – we are meeting and discussing virtually.So we will be discussing not the problems but the challengesfor the printers due to the present situation(s).Despite the dark news the recent data shows, there arebright spots in our industry. It will now be essential for allstripes of printing companies to help their customers,communicate effectively with their clients. It is essential inestablishing the trust, needed to open the economy, managethe crisis, and maintain safety. A lot of it is going to have tobe printed.
