With the help of Surgical staplers, almost

80% of the stomach is removed,

making it smaller

While removing the portion of the

stomach which produces most of the

hunger hormone this surgery has an

effect on metabolism.

Hunger decreases ,increases fullness

allowing the body to reach and maintain

a health weight.

related to obesity is also improved

GASTRIC BYPASS

PROCEDURE

The stomach first is divided into smaller

top portion while bypassing the larger

part which no longer stores or digests

food

For allowing food to pass the small

intestine is also divided and connected to

new stomach pouch.

From the bypassed stomach and first

portion of small intestine acids and

enzymes mix with food that is eaten.

conditions, this surgery is effective

ADJUSTABLE GASTRIC BAND

PROCEDURE

This device is placed around the top part

of the stomach for limiting the food

amount one person can eat.

Food transports within the stomach

normally but is limited due to the smaller

opening of gastric band.

Modest effects have been observed on

the metabolism.

ADVANTAGES

Gastric band can be removed when

necessary

Stomach and intestine is not divided

Lowest risk of vitamin and mineral

deficiencies

Rate of Complications are less early

after surgery

BILIOPANCREATIC DIVERSION WITH DUODENAL

SWITCH

PROCEDURE

The first portion of the small intestine is

detached from the stomach followed by

creation of sleeve-like stomach.

The outlet newly created stomach is

connected with a portion of small

intestine so that when patients consumes

food, it transports through the sleeve

pouch and into the latter part of the

small intestine.

ADVANTAGES

treatment of type 2 diabetes
