Botswana is currently led by His Excellency Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi whogot into the seat in April 2018 when H.E Sir Seretse Khama Ian Khamastepped down and was officially elected into the seat in 2019 duringElections. He is Head of State for the Sovereign Republic of Botswana.The President is part of the ruling party- Botswana Democratic Party-BDP, where the country is a Multiparty State with the citizens (aged 21years and above) at liberty to elect any party representative with theparty with most representatives taking over the Leadership of theDemocratic State. More than 50% of electorates in Botswana arewomen. The minimum percentage set by SADC Members is 30%The opposition parties include the Botswana Congress Party, BotswanaNational Front, MELS, Botswana Movement for Democracy, BotswanaPeople's Party, Alliance for Progressives, and the newly formedBotswana Patriotic Front. There is the Umbrella for Democratic Change-UDC which is a coalition of a few opposition parties.The BDP which has been ruling since Independence in 1966 currentlyhas 38 out of 63 seats. The UDC which is the main Opposition has 15seats.Out of these 63 seats, three (3) women claimed their seat at the 12thNational Assembly ( Hon. Nnaniki Makwinja, Hon. Talita Monnnakgotla,and Hon. Anna Mokgethi. ) H.E Masisi then used his Presidential powersto Specially elect four (4) more women ( Hon. Beauty Manake, Hon.Peggy Serame, Hon. Philda Kereng and Hon.
