CINCO RESIDENTIAL MODIFICATION REMINDER
Hello Cinco Community, We appreciate our residents and staff working
together to maintain property values and comply with our Governing
documents. We have a beautiful community, because every homeowner
understands it is their responsibility to maintain their home.
Residents considering making modifications or construction to the front
or rear exterior of the home, must obtain written approval from the
Architectural Modification Committee prior to work being performed.
Our website, www.cincoranch.life provides a hyperlink to a fillable form
under Information/Home improvements. Please be mindful that all
applications must be completed in accordance to the guidelines and
requirements. This is essential to successfully process the applications.
Incomplete applications will be returned to the resident to resubmit and
will create unnecessary delay.
Modification applications are due the first Friday of every month and
reviewed the third Tuesday of every month. Refer to the online website
calendar for changes due to holidays.
The HOA modification administrator has implemented a Fast Track
Program to reduce application approval time. Fast Track applications will
be expedited and processed with 5 business if all information requested
is provided. Residents may submit their applications via the website or
their Townsq account. If you are having problems accessing your TownSq
account, email us at requests@cincoranch.life for further assistance. We
look forward to building our community together as a team in Cinco
Ranch.
PROTECT STORM DRAINS
Just one quart of motor oil can ruin the quality of 250,000 gallons of
water. Decomposing leaves and grass clippings can cause large amounts
of algae to grow which depletes the oxygen level in the water and can
lead to fish kills. The blowing, sweeping or dumping of grass clippings
and other pollutants down the storm drain is against Texas State Law
punishable by a fine of $5,000 for each offense.
PLEASE CALL 281-398-8211 TO REPORT OFFENDERS.
CINCO RANCH LADIES CLUB
The Cinco Ranch Ladies Club (CRLC) is a 501(c)4 providing residents in
typically meet each month as an entire club at The Golf Club at Falcon
Point at 7 PM to partake in themed events such as a Chili Cook Off,
Halloween Party, Craft Fairs, Silent Auction, Line Dancing, Self--Defense
Class, Favorite Things Exchange and Luau.
We also offer about 22 sub-clubs that each meet once a month on a
small scale in residents homes, businesses, restaurants and walking trails.
Generally annual dues are $40 for all the social and charitable fun, but
annual dues are waived for the 2020-2021 year, due to Covid.
for halloween
www.goodhousekeeping.com
1. Start with the right pumpkin.
Choose one that's fresh, with a sturdy stem, no bruises, and a
flat bottom so it won't roll while you carve.
2. Cut from the bottom, not the top. Michael
Natiello, pumpkin carving pro and creative director for The Great
Jack-o'-Lantern Blaze, says cutting your "lid" from the bottom of
the pumpkin helps prevent the sides from caving in later.
3. If you do carve from the top, cut out the lid
on an angle. This way it won't drop inside the pumpkin
when you put it back on top, like it would with a straight upand-down
cut. A boning knife should work well for this.
4. Scoop out all the pulp (and then some). You
can buy a special "claw" for pumpkin gutting, but an ice cream
scoop will do just fine. Thin the inner wall of the "face" area to
1¼-inch thick, so it will be easier to pierce the shell.
5. Sketch out your design on paper first. If you
draw your jack-o'-lantern face to size, Natiello says you can
use it as a pattern: Just tape it to the front of your pumpkin
and use a fork or pencil to poke holes along the lines you want
to carve. (Or save yourself from creative blocks by getting a
pumpkin carving kit, complete with a marker, scraper, cutting
tools, and pre-made patterns.)
6. Hold the pumpkin in your lap. It's easier to create
features when the face is gazing up at you. Natiello suggests
using a serrated kitchen knife or an X-Acto knife for carving,
but to make intricate designs, you could try using a small saw.
Just don't cut on a slant — clean up-and-down slices look best.
7. Start by making simple rough cuts. If you get
the big pieces of pumpkin out of the way first, you can go back
and clean up the edges of your design later.
8. Use your scraps creatively. Make a tongue, pipe,
or hair accessories out of a discarded piece of pumpkin shell,
for example.
9. Keep your pumpkin fresh. Natiello recommends
spreading petroleum jelly on the cut edges to seal in moisture.
If your pumpkin still shrivels a few days later, you can revive it
with a facedown soak in cold water for up to eight hours.
10. Create a chimney. First, leave the lid on for a few
minutes while the candle burns. Then make a small hole where
the lid has blackened. Or, save yourself the stress and go with
battery-operated votives instead.
11. Sprinkle cinnamon inside the lid. That way,
when you light the candle, your jack-o'-lantern will smell like
a pumpkin pie. Yum.
How to carve a pumpkin
Hanging Bat Craft
Here’s a simple hanging bat craft for kids using empty toilet paper rolls. These
adorable cardboard tube bats are a great way for kids to help decorate for
fall or Halloween. They also make a great activity to go with the children’s
book, Stellaluna! (Free bat wing template is provided on website www.
buggyandbuddy.com.)
Materials for Bat Craft
Cardboard tube (We used an empty toilet paper roll.)
Tempera paint (black or brown) and paintbrush
Construction paper (black or brown)
Black pipe cleaners
Scissors
Single hole punch (This is my favorite! It can punch through multiple
sheets without making your hand sore!)
Glue
Googly eyes
Marker (We used black and silver Sharpies.)
Bat wing template (optional)
How to Make the Bat Craft
1. Paint your cardboard tube either black or brown (depending on the color
bat you’d like to make). This is our favorite tempera paint to use. I love the
colors and it doesn’t have a strong paint odor like other tempera paints.
2. While the cardboard tube is drying, draw some bat wings onto
construction paper and cut them out. (If you don’t want to draw them
yourself, you can use our bat wing template.)
3. Glue the wings onto the back of the cardboard tube.
4. Cut out some little triangles from your construction paper to make
ears. Glue these onto the bat, along with some googly eyes. Use a marker
to draw a mouth.
5. Punch two holes in the bottom of your cardboard tube. This is where
the legs will go.
6. Cut a black pipe cleaner in half. Twist one end of each pipe cleaner
through each punched hole.
7. To make the feet, snip off the last inch of each leg. Wrap the one-inch
piece of pipe cleaner around the bottom of each leg. Fold the middle part
of the foot to make a hook for hanging.
8. Hang your bat up for fall or Halloween!
easy costumes for
for halloween
www.todaysparent.com
Skunk Costume: For the distinctive tail, stuff a black sock, adding in a piece
of craft wire to help it hold its shape. Using a glue gun, stick the tail to the back
of a black hoodie (use a hand-me-down or inexpensive one). Then hot glue
thin white boas from the top of the hoodie, down the back and over and under
the tail. Cut two ears out of black stiffened felt and glue onto the hood. For the
tummy, cut an oval out of white felt. Glue one half to one side of the zipper, and
use Velcro to attach the other side (so you can still access the zipper).
Cow Costume: Cut out four
egg cups from an egg carton,
apply pink acrylic paint and
then hot glue them onto an
oval cut from pink felt. Hot glue
your udder onto the front of a
white shirt. Next, cut random
shapes out of black felt and hot
glue onto white pants, shirt and
hat. To make ears, cut rounded
diamond shapes out of black and
pink felt; pinch the bottom of the
diamonds and stick onto the hat
with hot glue. Attach a tiny bit of
fake fur to the top of the hat.
Grapes: Cut out a
crown from green Bristol
board and embellish with
paper leaves made out
of construction paper.
Hand stitch the balloons
to the outfit by threading
the needle through the
knot of each balloon.
Use a face paint pencil to
complete the look.
Bunny Costume: Cut out two layers of felt for each ear, plus an
accent piece for the inner ear. Glue each of the layers together. Loop the
bottom edge of each ear around the headband and hot glue in place.
Make a tail using a pom-pom and attach it with a needle and thread.
HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS
Walk Safely
. Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.
. Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you
cross.
. Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don’t run,
across the street.
. Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front
of them.
. Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing
traffic as far to the left as possible. Children should walk on direct routes
with the fewest street crossings.
. Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never
dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.
Trick or Treat with an Adult
. Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult
supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision,
they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in
groups.
Keep Costumes Both Creative and Safe
. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and if
possible, choose light colors.
. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks,
which can obstruct a child’s vision.
. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen
by drivers.
. When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips
and falls.
Drive Extra Safely on Halloween
. Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods.
Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.
. Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on
curbs.
. Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
. Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the
road and your surroundings.
. Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights
on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.
. Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM so be especially
alert for kids during those hours.
KISD NEWS
KATY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
KATY ISD TEACHER
“WISHES” BECOME A REALITY
THROUGH AMAZON PARTNERSHIP
Katy Independent School District has once again
partnered with Amazon to help teachers purchase
some of those additional items they “wish” they
could have to enhance their classroom experiences.
The District is providing its teachers up to $200 each
to spend through an Amazon Business account for
consumable classroom supply purchases such as pens,
color pencils, paper and small student incentives.
This is in addition to the instructional supplies and
materials already provided through Katy ISD campus
budgets.
“These funds are intended to assist teachers with
purchasing those few extra items they would love to
have in their classrooms that may further supplement
a learning experience they have planned for their
students,” said Dr. Ken Gregorski, Superintendent of
Schools. “Our educators have always gone above and
beyond for our learners, especially during these past
18 months. We hope they will enjoy this opportunity to
purchase some additional items for their classrooms,”
added Gregorski.
The Katy Instructional Teacher Supply Budget (KITSB)
is separate from campus budgets and does not affect
Katy ISD’s overall instructional material and supply
budget. Beginning next week, teachers will be able
to log into Amazon to select the items they wish to
purchase. It is the expectation this initiative will help
with personal out-of-pocket expenses incurred by
some teachers.
KATY ISD TOPS FORBES LIST
OF BEST TEXAS EMPLOYERS
Katy Independent School District has once again
earned a spot in the Forbes List of Best Employers in
the state of Texas, coming in at #8. Not surprisingly,
Katy ISD was also the only school district in Texas to
make the Top 10 list of employers along with renowned
organizations such as NASA, Dell Technologies and
Southwest Airlines, to name a few.
“From our teachers, administrators, operations and
support staff, every member of the Katy ISD family
strives daily to provide supportive and unparalleled
learning experiences to the more than 87,000 students
ever had the privilege to work alongside. It is our employees that truly makes Katy ISD such
a special place,” added Gregorski.
Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to develop its third annual list
of America’s Best Employers by State. The list is divided into 51 rankings - one for each
of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia - and was compiled by surveying 80,000
Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. Surveys were conducted
from October 2020 to June 2021 and were anonymous, allowing participants to freely
share their opinions.
This is the third consecutive year that Katy ISD has made the list.
DONATUTORS
Donatutors is a nonprofit tutoring organization that donates 100% of our proceeds to
charity. All of our tutors are straight-A students at Seven Lakes High school and we offer
a multitude of courses like creative writing, computer science, biology, public speaking,
ICTW writing and many different math courses too. We charge $20 per class, but the first
one is free! For more information, check out donatutors.com or email us at donatutors@
which we used 70% to give to a Houston based charity called NAMI and 30% to buy a
bunch of masks and canned food for donation. Please check us out!
that our society believes that no child should ever experience bullying.
OCTOBER IS NATIONAL
PROTECT YOUR HEARING MONTH
October is National Protect Your Hearing month. More than 36 million
Americans suffer from some type of hearing loss. Contrary to what many people
think, this isn’t an issue just for the older adult population: half of hearing loss
sufferers in America are younger than 65. Let’s take a closer look at the causes of
hearing loss and how to be proactive in protecting and preserving your hearing.
Types of Hearing Loss: There are three types of hearing loss. Aging is the reason
most of us think of first. Hearing loss can also be caused by illness. Noise-induced
hearing loss (NIHL) is the third type of hearing loss and it’s on the rise in America.
We are exposed to more noise than ever before. This doesn’t mean, though, that
hearing loss is inevitable. Hearing care and examinations at a hearing clinic can
help protect your hearing and prevent hearing loss due to excessive noise.
How We Hear: How do we hear? The outer part of our ear acts as a funnel,
channeling sound waves into the ear canal. There, they vibrate the ear drum
and pass through to the middle ear. Within the middle ear are the three
smallest bones in the human body. These tiny bones are responsible for
amplifying the sounds waves before they move to the inner ear. This part
of the ear is related to balance. The middle ear also contains microscopic
hairs that, when vibrated, trigger the electrical impulses that are then sent
to the brain from the auditory nerve, allowing us to hear.
Noise-Induced Hearing Loss: Noise-induced hearing loss happens with
prolonged exposure to noise levels at 85 decibels or higher. When the
tiny hairs in our ear canal are exposed to this level of noise over time,
these hairs can become damaged. This damage is permanent. You might
be surprised to find out that many noise sources that we encounter in our
daily lives measure higher than 85 decibels - the threshold at which noise
levels start to become damaging to the ears.
Hair dryers and ambulances are two such examples. Music concerts
and sporting events also have noise levels above 85db. Does this mean
drying your hair occasionally or going to a few football games will lead
to hearing loss? Not necessarily. It’s important to talk to a trained and
licensed audiologist and get a hearing assessment to make sure you’re
doing what you can to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
How an Audiologist Can Help: An audiologist is a state-licensed health
care professional that holds a master’s or doctorate degree from an
accredited university. Audiologists don’t just fit hearing aids or deal with
a patients’ hearing loss after the fact - though this is an important part of
their work. Audiologists are also able to design and implement a plan for
you to prevent noise-induced hearing loss in the first place.
Take steps this October to better protect your hearing. Get to know your
audiologist and schedule a hearing assessment. If you are someone who
is regularly subject to excessive noise levels, an audiologist can work with
you to prevent permanent hearing damage.
