LOST/FOUND PET?
Go to www.copperfield.org
EMERGENCY VEHICLES
AND FIRE TRUCK CLEARANCE
The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department is still requesting homeowners
assist in addressing the low hanging trees within the Copperfield
Community. Low hanging limbs and branches are causing damage to
the fire departments equipment and damage to the homeowners’ trees,
hampering the response to emergency calls. Most of the fire departments
equipment is 13 feet tall and therefore need a 14 foot clearance from
trees that hang over the streets. Routes to locations have to be altered
to avoid these areas and some areas have no alternate route; leaving no
recourse but to park and walk to the locations.
WCA/GFL RESIDENTIAL SOLID WASTE &
RECYCLING COLLECTION
GFL CHANGES TO BILLING
We are encouraging residents to create and link an account on the
GFL website: https://gflenv.com. Click on my account and follow the
instructions to set up an account. The resident will need their account
number or a current invoice number. (The account will now begin with
AF) If a resident does not set up an account on the GFL website, they will
continue to receive a bill in the mail. If a resident chooses to call and make
a payment or go online and make a one-time payment, there will be a $5
service fee. If a resident has a question or issue with setting up an account
on the GFL, please contact customer service: wcacshouston@gflenv.com,
713-539-9075.
WCA/GFL WORK SPECIFICATION
A. Regular collection days for all communities will be Tuesday and Friday.
Household waste will be collected at the backdoor and or garage for the
sections of the Association with backdoor and or garage service. The
trash must be accessible and visible from the street, WCA/GFL personnel
will not go behind any gates to access the household waste. Household
waste will be collected at the curb for the sections of the Association
with curbside service. All waste must be in place by 7 AM. Household
waste must be either in containers or bags not exceeding sixty-four
(64) gallons or fifty (50) pounds. Household garbage is defined as waste
generated inside the house, exclusive of any construction or remodeling
debris or any other waste defined in this Contract. Trees, shrubs and
brush trimmings must be bundled in lengths no greater than four (4)
feet with no branch diameter exceeding three (3) inches. The bundling is
required to allow quick pick-up and size limitations are required to avoid
damaging the equipment in the crushing process.
B. Heavy trash or bulk items must be placed at the curbside by 7 AM every
Tuesday and Friday. Small pieces of furniture, appliances, carpet (up to
one room, rolled up to four feet wide and weigh less than fifty pounds)
and cardboard boxes (flattened). By Federal Law, refrigerators, freezers
or any other items containing Freon must be drained of Freon and have
an accompanying bill to validate service was performed. Items excluded
from normal collection are construction material, wood fencing, dirt,
rocks, bricks, concrete, tires and batteries, motor oil, cooking oil, waste
generated by a private contractor or any materials or items deemed
hazardous materials. WCA/GFL will leave a tag explaining the reason
for non-collected item(s). For a special collection of other than normal
amounts or bulk items, if notified in advance, WCA/GFL will meet with a
resident prior to collection day to determine a price. If a resident does not
notify WCA/GFL of such a special pick-up before its scheduled day, then
WCA/GFL will leave a notice for the resident to contact WCA/GFL during
normal office hours before the next scheduled pick-up day.
C. Household recycling must be placed at the curbside by 7 AM. WCA/
GFL will collect residential recyclables located curbside in the eighteen
(18) gallon bin or the forty-eight (48) gallon cart supplied by WCA/
GFL. If a bin or cart needs to be replaced, contact customer service for
delivery of a replacement bin or cart. Current items being collected are
paper including newspaper, magazines, phone books, catalogs, junk
mail, envelopes, file folders, computer paper, construction paper, colored
paper, corrugated cardboard boxes (flattened and bundled) cereal and
soda/beer boxes, gift boxes, wrapping paper; containers including
aluminum cans, aluminum foil, plastic bottles/jugs/buckets #1 through
#7, glass bottles or jars. Excluded Items are Styrofoam, metal pots and
pans; scrap metal like nails; screws; gutters; and copper. If the market price
for anyone (1) or all the commodities designated to be collected drop to
the point that such materials can no longer be sold or processed, WCA/
GFL will remove that item(s) from the list of those items to be recycled
and notify the residents. WCA/GFL will communicate any changes in
recycling to residents.
COYOTES IN COPPERFIELD
Coyotes have been sighted in many of the subdivisions in the Copperfield
area at night and before dawn. Please protect your pets. They should not
be left unattended after dark, even in their own enclosed yard as coyotes
can jump or scale a 6-7 ft fence.
YARD OF THE MONTH
September Yard of the Month was awarded to property owner at 7411 Hollow Ridge.
We appreciate and thank you for all special efforts taken to make our neighborhood
beautiful! This ends our 2021 Yard of The Month. We thank all our homeowners for
their continued efforts to keep their yards looking good in spite of the freeze damage
and continuous rains!
POOL AND PARKS:
The pool is now officially closed. Thanks to all our volunteers that helped us keep our
pool open and special thanks to our homeowners for doing their part by keeping the
pool tables sanitized before leaving and abiding by our new posted Covid rules.
Keep in mind that next year we will need a new Committee Chairman with volunteers
for the 2022 year. The Committee Chairman who has been in charge of the pool is
stepping down after 26 years. We will need a new Chairman and at least 4 volunteers
to assist us. We will get more into this subject as we are getting close to the 2022
season. If interested, please contact Chapparal Management.
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE POOL COMMITTEE, which consisted of 2 homeowners and
Board Members. Without them our pool hours and times would be selective. We
desperately need volunteers for next year.
POOL TRESPASSING: Jumping over the fence when the pool is closed is trespassing
and illegal.
(MG) MIDDLEGATE ANNUAL HOA MEETING
Our Annual Meeting for 2021 is scheduled for Wednesday, November
17 th . Mark your calendars and plan on attending. There will be 3 HOA
Board positions available for election. If you would like to be nominated
you to attend and remind your neighbors as well. We will post updates
and details on the website. If you cannot attend, please give your proxy
(MG) MIDDLEGATE ORGANIZATIONAL STYLE AND HISTORY
The Middlegate Village Community Association is a non-profit corporation
and it provides many services including common area maintenance,
deed restriction enforcement and park and pool upkeep. Each of the
791 homeowners pays an annual assessment to defray the op-erating
costs of the Association. Prior to 1985, Friendswood Development
Company controlled the operation of the Middlegate Village Community
Association. In March 1985, Friendswood turned the operation of the
Community Association over to the residents.
(MG) TRASH AND ANIMALS
Place trash in trash can with lid on. For tidiness purpose please keep your
garbage in sealed trash can when you set it out for pick up on Tuesday
and Friday. Raccoons, possums and cats roam the area at night. If critters
manage to meddle with your trash, be certain to promptly clean up any
strewn rubbish, so that litter and odor are minimal.
2, 2021 from 7 AM- 2 PM.
Southcreek Community Signs went up on Sunday, September 26 th
advertising the event. Information will also be posted on Town Square
and on the Southcreek Marquees
Participating Residents are also welcome to put up signs. Please make
sure that these additional signs are removed by 4 PM on October 2 nd .
It is recommended that everyone continue to follow CDC guidelines.
Please wear a mask and maintain social distance of 6 ft.
(SC) NATIONAL NIGHT OUT - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5 TH
National Night out is Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 5-9 PM. Residents are
encouraged to organize a gathering for their street.
This event can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Reach
out to all the neighbors on your street to get ideas and find volunteers
that can help and utilize your neighbor’s talents at your event.
The objective of NNO is to build neighborhood camaraderie by getting to
know the neighbors that live around you and making our neighborhood
a safer, more caring place to live.
This event also gives us the opportunity to bring police and Southcreek
neighbors together in a positive setting, which helps create a positive
police-community partnership.
NNO also provides a great opportunity for you to update the contact
information for all the neighbors on your street and even create a street
roster to share with your neighbors.
Southcreek Village has already submitted the NNO application to HCSO
for all streets in the community.
(SC) SOUTHCREEK ANNUAL HOMEOWENERS MEETING
WATCH FOR THE DATE
The Southcreek Village Annual Meeting will be scheduled in October or
November. Once dates and location are coordinated with Cy-Fair ISD,
information will be posted on townsq.io Attending this meeting is a great
way to find out what is going on in the Southcreek neighborhood. We will
have a representative from the Sheriff’s Department. A financial report on
Southcreek HOA will be given. The various committees associated with
Southcreek will also be giving reports, such as Pool and Parks and the
Architectural Review Committee. We will also be giving out Door Prizes!
Once you receive your proxy in the mail, it is very important that if you are
not coming to the meeting that you turn in your proxy to the Southcreek
Community Association or turn in to a Southcreek Homeowner who is
attending the meeting. According to our by-laws, we must have 10%
of the membership of our community represented either in person at
the meeting or by proxy. Without the 10% representation, we cannot
conduct this meeting.
Please note: The plans for the Annual Meeting are contingent on what
is going on with the COVID virus. There will be more information on
TownSQ
(SC) ROCK THE PARK - WATCH FOR THE DATE!
Rock the Park is an opportunity to hear music in the Park. You are invited
to bring blankets and chairs. You can bring a picnic dinner to enjoy while
you are listening to music. Bottled water and popcorn will be provided.
This is another great way to get to know your neighbors in Southcreek.
The Southcreek Social Committee is organizing a Rock the Park in
October or in November. Information will be posted on townsq.io once
date is confirmed.
(SC) BLOCK CAPTAINS
We have been able to recruit block captains for many of the streets in
Southcreek. But, we still have some streets that need a block captain. If
you live on one of these streets, please consider being a block captain.
It is a great way to get to know your neighbors and others in your
community.
Here is a list of the streets that still need block captains:
April Hill Street
Autumn Falls Lane
Brittany Knoll Drive
Country Bend Drive
Echo Point Lane
Edgevale Court,
WESTCREEK CRIME WATCH COMMITTEE
Each year, residents of Westcreek are asked to lock their doors, turn on
outside lights and spend an evening outside with neighbors. Neighbor
knowing neighbor is one of the most effective ways to prevent crime.
Local law enforcement may briefly visit with residents of many of the
neighborhoods that register their parties with the Township.
Those planning to attend the event should practice social distancing and
continue following all guidelines established by the CDC when in public
spaces and around others outside of your household. Please note all
information is subject to change, pending local, state and federal Orders
or Declarations.
WHAT IS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT?
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign
that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood
camaraderie to make neighborhoods a safer, better place to live. National
Night Out is designed to:
• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
• Generate support for local anti-crime efforts.
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
• Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are
organized and fighting back.
The choice to hold a party is at the discretion of the host especially since
Delta Covid is active. It’s great if you want to have a block party and it
can be done safely. Our Crime Watch Committee, because of Covid, will
not be soliciting donations to share with parties. Therefore, it is up to
the host to provide whatever items they may need. Thank you for your
understanding. If you are a Block Captain and/or want to be one, please
email me at wrspo@sbcglobal.net.
holiday awards. These details will be explained in the next newsletter. We
would love to have a few volunteers from the community to help the
committee members to judge for the different categories. Please consider
fun crafts to do
for halloween
www.goodhousekeeping.com
1. Start with the right pumpkin.
Choose one that's fresh, with a sturdy stem, no bruises, and a
flat bottom so it won't roll while you carve.
2. Cut from the bottom, not the top. Michael
Natiello, pumpkin carving pro and creative director for The Great
Jack-o'-Lantern Blaze, says cutting your "lid" from the bottom of
the pumpkin helps prevent the sides from caving in later.
3. If you do carve from the top, cut out the lid
on an angle. This way it won't drop inside the pumpkin
when you put it back on top, like it would with a straight upand-down
cut. A boning knife should work well for this.
4. Scoop out all the pulp (and then some). You
can buy a special "claw" for pumpkin gutting, but an ice cream
scoop will do just fine. Thin the inner wall of the "face" area to
1¼-inch thick, so it will be easier to pierce the shell.
5. Sketch out your design on paper first. If you
draw your jack-o'-lantern face to size, Natiello says you can
use it as a pattern: Just tape it to the front of your pumpkin
and use a fork or pencil to poke holes along the lines you want
to carve. (Or save yourself from creative blocks by getting a
pumpkin carving kit, complete with a marker, scraper, cutting
tools, and pre-made patterns.)
6. Hold the pumpkin in your lap. It's easier to create
features when the face is gazing up at you. Natiello suggests
using a serrated kitchen knife or an X-Acto knife for carving,
but to make intricate designs, you could try using a small saw.
Just don't cut on a slant — clean up-and-down slices look best.
How to carve a pumpkin
7. Start by making simple rough cuts. If you get
the big pieces of pumpkin out of the way first, you can go back
and clean up the edges of your design later.
8. Use your scraps creatively. Make a tongue, pipe,
or hair accessories out of a discarded piece of pumpkin shell,
for example.
9. Keep your pumpkin fresh. Natiello recommends
spreading petroleum jelly on the cut edges to seal in moisture.
If your pumpkin still shrivels a few days later, you can revive it
with a facedown soak in cold water for up to eight hours.
10. Create a chimney. First, leave the lid on for a few
minutes while the candle burns. Then make a small hole where
the lid has blackened. Or, save yourself the stress and go with
battery-operated votives instead.
11. Sprinkle cinnamon inside the lid. That way,
when you light the candle, your jack-o'-lantern will smell like
a pumpkin pie. Yum.
