VLP NEW COMMUNITY WEBSITE
Important! Villages at Lakepointe changed to a new community website
effective August 31 st of this year. The original notice of this change was sent in
an email on August 4 th to everyone who had registed on the old NABR network.
The new community website address is https://graham.cincwebaxis.com.
Please register on the new website as soon as possible if you have not
done so already to make certain that you receive any new community and
meeting information. This new site has the ability to send text message
alerts as well as emails if you opt into those features. It will also contain your
governing documents, forms, meeting minutes, financials and other helpful
information. You will need your account number to register for the new site.
Your account number as well as information on the new website can also be
found on your annual assessment statement. If you still cannot locate your
account number, please email laustin@grahammanagementhouston.com
or call 713-334-8000. As with the NABR Network, this is not to be confused
with Nextdoor but is the main resource for residents of VLP for important

MONTHLY HOA MEETINGS:
We encourage all residents to participate in the monthly HOA meetings. It
is your forum to ask questions, share suggestions and stay connected with
neighbors and planned activities.
VLP SAFETY TIPS
Following are some safety tips from our Constable,
Officer Goodrich:
• Safety and awareness are extremely important.
• If you SEE something, SAY something. You are
encouraged to call in and report suspicious activity.
• Call 713-221-6000 with non-emergency issues and
911 with emergencies. Active, suspicious persons or
vehicles at the pool after 10 PM should also be reported
by calling 911.
• Please be aware of your surroundings at all times.
Always lock your vehicle and promptly remove
packages and deliveries from your doorstep.
WATER USAGE
TNG is the operator for MUD 370. Villages at Lakepointe,
Lakes on Eldridge North and Nanaksar Colony make
up MUD 370.
The meter readings and total monthly usage are
listed on your invoices. To conserve water, check for
things like running toilets or leaks. TNG is also a good
resource and can be reached at 281-350-0895.
PET OWNER FRIENDLY REMINDERS
Please remember to adhere to county laws regarding
your pet by always having your pet on a leash when
outside of your house or backyard. This is a law in
Harris County; details can be found under Animal
Regulations at public health.harriscountytx.gov.
When: The first Monday evening of each month (except on Holidays and in
December) at 6 PM.
Where: Meetings are being held via Zoom until further notice. Please visit the
community website for information on how to access the Zoom meetings as
well as to verify the meeting dates, view previous meeting minutes and more.

VLP POOL RULES
The VLP pool is open 6AM-10 PM every day year round for your enjoyment.
Please consider the following while using the pool:
The pool closes at 10 PM daily. Please be considerate of our neighbors and
exit the pool at this time. Anyone inside the pool area after 10 PM will be
considered trespassing and subject to arrest and/or loss of pool privileges.
While there are no longer any Covid restrictions limiting capacity, please note
that only two non-resident guests per household are permitted at the pool
at any one time and only when accompanied by a resident. Children under
the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult and, of course, animals are
not allowed to go into the pool. A complete list of rules is posted at the pool.

This is a very important safety precaution for all
residents and their pets. Note that in addition to the
risks posed by street traffic or possible encounters with
other animals, the drainage ditch that runs through
VLP is a place where coyotes can be found.
As a reminder, please pick up after your pet. please pick
up after your pet. Germs and disease can be spread in
fecal matter, not to mention the mess it causes when
stepped in. Trash cans have been installed in common
areas in VLP for your convenience. Be a good neighbor
and pick up your pet waste, including other resident’s
yards and walking paths.
DESIGN GUIDELINES
The Design Guidelines are detailed descriptions
of criteria related to the outside of your home and
landscape. A complete list of these guidelines can be
found on the community website. As VLP approaches
20+ years, it is critical to keep the integrity of the
neighborhood by upkeep of homes and yards. Please
take a look at this information to see if there is anything
you can do to your residence to help keep our home
values up.

TREES AND SIDEWALKS
As an ongoing reminder, it is the responsibility of the homeowners
to trim the trees on their property. This includes the trees on
the outside of the sidewalk that line the property. Many have
overgrown tree branches that hang down and continue to pose
a danger to pedestrians. A related concern is the condition of
sidewalks that have become significantly uneven, largely from
tree roots, soil erosion, etc. Like the low hanging branches, these
uneven sidewalks also pose a risk to pedestrians. The homeowner
would be liable for any injury caused by low hanging branches and
faults in the sidewalks on their property. Graham Management is
responsible for any needed sidewalk repairs in the common areas.

As we all know, there was a great deal of freeze damage to the

Casserole
5 cups bread cubes
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup white sugar, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon margarine,
softened
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Lightly butter an 8x8 inch baking pan. Line bottom of
pan with bread cubes. In a large bowl, beat together
eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt and vanilla. Pour
egg mixture over bread. Dot with margarine; let stand
for 10 minutes. -- Combine remaining 2 tablespoons
sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle over
the top. Bake in preheated oven about 45 to 50
minutes, until top is golden.

Quinoa Stuffed Butternut Squash
with Cranberries & Kale
2 medium butternut squash about 2 1/2 pounds each
2 teaspoons olive oil divided
3/4 cup quinoa
1 1/2 cups low sodium vegetable broth or chicken broth
1 bunch kale stems removed and chopped
(about 6 lightly packed cups)
2 cloves garlic minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt plus additional for roasting squash
1/2 teaspoon black pepper plus additional for roasting squash
1 can low sodium chickpeas (15 ounces), rinsed and drained
Zest of 1 orange plus 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
1/3 cup reduced sugar dried cranberries
Grated Parmesan cheese or crumbled feta cheese, optional
Place a rack in the center of your oven and preheat
the oven to 425 degrees F. Halve the butternut
squash, scoop out the seeds, then arrange the halves
on a baking tray, cut sides up. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon
olive oil and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Bake
45-55 minutes, just until the squash is fork tender.
Remove from the oven and let cool. Reduce the oven
temperature to 375 degrees.
While the squash is baking, place the broth in a small
saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the quinoa, return
to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let simmer
for 12 minutes, until most of the broth is absorbed.
Remove from the heat and let sit, covered, for 15
minutes. Fluff with a fork, then set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the remaining 1 teaspoon olive
over medium. Add the kale and cook until wilted,
about 4 minutes, then reduce the heat to medium
low. Add the garlic, oregano, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and
1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Cook 30 additional seconds,
until is fragrant. Stir in the chickpeas, orange
zest, orange juice, cooked quinoa, and cranberries.
Once the squash is cool enough to handle, scoop out
the flesh, leaving a 1/2-inch-thick border around
the sides and a 3/4-inch border along the bottom.
Reserve the flesh for another use (or if you don’t
mind a super duper stuffed squash, mix it in with the
rest of the filling). Stuff the kale quinoa filling into
the squash halves, then return the squash to the
oven. Bake at 375 degrees until hot, about 10 additional
minutes. Sprinkle with cheese and serve warm.

More and more people are shopping online, avoiding lines, crowds
and interactions with others, especially in this time of COVID.
This has created the perfect environment for criminals to launch
scams, phishing attacks, and other malicious activities.
The amount of money spent over this cyber weekend is escalating
year after year, and due to the COVID pandemic, it continues to
escalate to staggering numbers. Cybercriminals follow the money,
and this weekend of crazed spending provides them with the
perfect opportunity to scam a large number of people. According
to Barclays, nearly a quarter of 18-34-year-olds have fallen for
a Black Friday scam in the past five years and shoppers lose on
average $910 after falling victim to such frauds.
With attacks becoming more sophisticated, shoppers need to be
extra cautious when looking for the latest bargains online.
Below are 10 Cyber Safety tips to keep you safe online this Black
Friday and Cyber Monday:
1. Watch Out for Fake Websites
This is one of the most popular ways criminals will try to trick
shoppers into falling for their Black Friday and Cyber Monday
scams. The fraudsters will clone websites to dupe consumers into
thinking they are shopping on a legitimate site. The website may
appear almost identical to the real site; however, subtle changes
can indicate that all is not as it seems.
2. Only Use Secure Sites
A web address that ends .com or .co may be changed to a .org,
images may be pixilated, functions on the site may not work
properly and the content will often be sub-standard. It’s always
worth double- checking the address of a site to confirm its

authenticity. Before entering any information into a website, you
should always check that the site is safe and secure. The first step
is to hover your mouse over the URL and check the validity of the
web address. You should look for a padlock symbol in the address
bar and check that the URL begins with a ‘https://’ or ‘shttp://’. The
‘S’ indicates the web address has been encrypted and secured
with an SSL certificate. Without HTTPS, any data passed on the
site is insecure and could be intercepted by criminal third parties.
However, this system is not totally foolproof. Within the last year,
there has been a significant increase in the number of phishing
sites using SSL certificates. Users are advised to be extra cautious
and look for further evidence that the site is secure. You should
check for a website privacy policy, use a website safety check tool
such as Google Safe Browsing, or do a WHOIS lookup to see who
owns the website.
3. Use a Credit Card for Shopping Online
When possible, it’s always best to use a credit card when shopping
online as it offers additional protection over other forms of payment.
If a fraudulent purchase is made on your credit card, there’s a good
chance your bank will reimburse you straight away. However, if a
criminal steals your debit card details, they can clear out your
personal account and it can be more difficult to reclaim the money.
4. Beware of Phishing Emails
Phishing is one of the most popular ways for criminals to steal
your personal information and there is always a massive increase
in these types of scams on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The speed, convenience and high return on investment makes
phishing one of the easiest ways for cybercriminals to steal your
personal data without you even knowing.

5. Avoid Deals That Are Too
Good to Be True
As Cyber Monday approaches, be wary of any
emails offering cash prizes or last-minute deals.
These emails are designed to trick shoppers into
clicking on a link which may appear to come from
a well-known retailer. Trust your gut if you think
there’s something not right about the email and
delete it immediately.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday feature lots of
legitimate deals offered by trusted and reputable
retailers. However, cybercriminals know we’ll be
scouring the web for the cheapest deals and they take
advantage of this by slipping in lots of fake offers.
Be wary of any emails, pop-ups, or posts on
social media promising rock bottom prices.
Clicking on the link could bring you straight to
a phishing site or you may end up downloading
malware onto your device. It can be hard to
distinguish between a real bargain and a fake

6. Use Strong Passwords
You’ll have heard it a million times, but creating a
strong password really is one of the easiest ways
you can protect yourself from being hacked online.
With so many passwords to remember, it can be
tempting to use the same password for multiple
accounts, however, this puts you at great risk of
having your data stolen. If hackers can work out
just one of your passwords, whether it’s a Facebook
account or online banking details, they can
potentially access every single account you have.
It’s always best to use a unique username and password for separate online accounts
so that in the unfortunate event of being phished, the attackers won’t have access
to your other online accounts. A great way to create a longer and more complex
password is to use a passphrase. A passphrase is a sentence like string of words that
is memorable to you but difficult for anyone else to crack. The first letter of each word
will form the basis of your password and letters can be substituted with numbers and
symbols to make it even more secure.
7. Watch Out for Social Media Scams
Social media scams are rife on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The crooks know
that people are going online to specifically look for deals, so they make it as easy
as they can for shoppers to fall for their online scams. Facebook and Twitter
tend to be the favoured choice for these malicious posts and criminals will ask
shoppers to like and share their posts, so they’re boosted to the top of news feeds
and reach a wider audience. Users tend to be more trusting on social media and
it’s often more difficult to determine if a link is malicious than it would be on a
more traditional platform.
8. Avoid Public Wi-Fi When Shopping
Using public Wi-Fi to search for the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals could
open you up to a range of security risks. Public Wi-Fi requires no authentication to
establish a network connection, allowing fraudsters direct access to any unsecured
devices on the same open network. This enables hackers to steal valuable information
such as login passwords, credit card info and other personal and financial details.
9. Monitor Bank Statements for Fraudulent Activity
Before going online to shop about for the hottest deals, you should make sure
that all your security software is up to date. This will prevent cybercriminals from
gaining access to your computer through vulnerabilities in older and outdated
systems. The installation of anti-virus software will also help detect threats on
your computer and block unauthorised users from gaining access.
It’s always worth keeping a close eye on bank statements to make sure there
are no unusual transactions on your account. Criminals know that during Black
Friday and Cyber Monday there will be lots of online activity, so they hope that any
unusual debits from your account will go undetected. Typically, the crooks will
make a few initial debits for smaller amounts then go in for a larger amount which
could clean out your bank account.
