In Partnership with
WELCOME
After reopening in May 2021, it’s been a
whirlwind of activity. Our January – April
season is jam-packed with exciting new
shows (and some rescheduled ones!).
It’s been incredible to see people back in
our newly transformed building and being
a hive of activity again. There’s nothing
better than seeing audiences reunite whilst enjoying some live theatre,
watching a film, perusing an exhibition or dining with us.
The last few months have been extremely busy getting back to ‘normal’
and we anticipate it only getting busier. We have an extremely strong team
of dedicated staff here at The Courtyard, and we wouldn’t be where we are
today without them.
November 2021 saw the opening of our brand new retail space, which
shines the spotlight on locally made, sustainable products, putting them at
the heart of our shopping community. We have over 40 local creators and
makers on board so far – take a look at pages 36 & 37 to find out more.
Audiences have been so supportive and are returning to experience our
events in their droves. We move forward optimistically, but we’re not out of
the woods yet, with a long road to recovery ahead of us. So keep visiting
us, dining with us and supporting us to help us bounce back and keep
culture alive in Herefordshire!
Best wishes,
Ian Archer
Chief Executive and Artistic Director

reducing our carbon
the courtyard x
The Courtyard aims to provide ‘green leadership’ in the arts,
seeking a model of operation that minimises our
environmental impact whilst maximising our cultural
opportunities. We are working with Beryl to provide our Senior
Youth Theatre group and Youth Theatre leaders
free zero carbon travel to and from classes.
“We’re delighted to be working with The Courtyard. Beryl bikes
are helping many people to travel enjoyably and sustainably. Many
organisations are now seeking to improve their sustainability and
helping their customers to take more environmentally friendly
journeys is a fantastic way of doing that. Introducing Beryl Minute
Bundles as part of our offer to Courtyard customers is both practical
and fun, with the added benefit of encouraging a more active
lifestyle. We look forward to continuing our work with The Courtyard
and supporting visitors to enjoy the ride.” - Ben Lee, Beryl
Keep an eye out for spot discounts on our bay at peak times
for certain events throughout the season.

The Courtyard recognises that there is a strong moral
obligation to reduce waste and energy use. Therefore, we
have partnered with Pedicargo to improve our waste and
recycling rates in an attempt to achieve a zero-carbon
waste management programme by 2023.
“It’s rare in business to have an opportunity to save money, improve services
and do something great for the environment!
We’re confident that by working together The Courtyard will not only hit it’s
zero carbon target for waste, but will also be able to offset a significant
quantity of carbon produced from other operations.
It is exciting to be involved with an organisation that is making bold
decisions that benefit everyone.” - Will Vaughan, Pedicargo
Pedicargo will turn our glass waste into sand for local flood
defences and construction and food waste into compost to
nourish local soil, all whilst using zero carbon transport for all
our segregated waste.
Our customers can help by segregating their waste on site
using the appropriate bins provided.

New Year, new fundraising
leaving a legacy
Remembering The Courtyard in your will
Leaving a legacy is something that almost
everyone can do. You can choose to remember
The Courtyard in your will, alongside your
instructions for family and friends.
Your last, most personal gift will help
The Courtyard to thrive for future generations,
offering them the enjoyment you have
experienced during your lifetime.
It doesn’t need to be thousands of pounds;
even £100 will make a difference to our work.

After an absence of more than a year, The Courtyard’s
Grand Draw returns! Some of the prizes are generously
donated by local businesses: a flight for up to four
people with Tiger Helicopters, Sunday lunch at the
Castle House Hotel, and a family tour of Weston’s Cider
with a voucher for the Scrumpy House Restaurant.
Others are unique “money can’t buy” sessions offered
by staff members at The Courtyard. If you fancy learning
how to do stage combat with our Associate Director,
getting to grips with the technical side of lighting, sound
and film, participating in a drinks masterclass at the
Chase Lounge or any of the other great prizes on offer,
why not enter the draw? Tickets are £1 and go on sale
from Monday 31 January 2022. The draw will take place
at The Courtyard on Wednesday 23 March.
A sale of CDs and DVDs covering a wide range of
genres will take place in the spring. The entire collection
has been donated to raise funds for The Courtyard from
a staff member’s relative’s estate. Watch out on social
media for details nearer the time.
Looking further ahead, The Courtyard’s Motor Show
returns on Sunday 24 July. We’ll be doing a call for
vehicle entries soon, so if you have a car or bike that’s
something that you don’t see on the road every day,
keep the day free!
