Loddon Auctions, the specialist collectables
auctioneers from Berkshire, have just held
another successful auction...
ADVERTISING FEATURE
Their interesting portfolio of sale
items include cigarette & trade cards,
postcards, toys, sporting memorabilia,
film & entertainment collectables, beer
labels and much more. The highlights
from the October auction included some
spectacular prices for vintage cards.
In the sale four single cards issued by
The Capitol Picture House of Bolton,
featuring the famous American golfer
Bobby Jones, made prices ranging from
£1900 to £2600 each. A set of sports
cards issued by the A&BC Chewing
Gum Company in the late 1950’s, were
also very popular at £680. Cards don’t
have to be English to attract bidders as
all of the sales are fully illustrated on the
internet and bidders are attracted from all
over the world. A part set of Ice Hockey
Players issued by the Canadian Company
Maple Crispette Co soared away at
£2000.
A more unusual collecting area is the
ever-popular beer label section and the
highlight of the sale was a single label
issued by the Richmond Brewery Co
for Oatmeal Stout which sold for £900.
Prices can vary greatly but as can be
seen high figures can be achieved for
scarce single items.
A collection of James Bond books were
offered for sale at just the right time as
it coincided with the latest Bond film
release & first editions of The Spy Who
Loved Me & Goldfinger sold for £1000 &
£1500 respectively.
The regular postcard section didn’t fail to
disappoint as many single cards attracted
competitive bidding. A collection of Art
Nouveau cards by the artist Raphael
Kirchner reached prices ranging from
£50 to £85 each. Suffragette images are
always popular and a single card showing
the Suffragette Office in Reading made
an impressive £420. Advertising cards,
usually with colourful artist drawn images,
are a well collected area and in this sale
cards advertising Cycle Companies,
Fry’s Chocolate, Meat Extract & others all
achieved good prices.
The Company’s next auction will be held
in December when another interesting
range of lots will be on offer.
