with musical ambition to rival Prince, this multi-talented
26-year-old floored critics with her 2010 debut album
which the guardian declared ‘album of the year’. it gained a
grammy nomination as did the explosive single, ‘tightrope’.
Showcasing a sophisticated blend of hip-hop, r&B and a
cinematic nous, Janelle Monáe’s highly anticipated australian
live debut is sure to bring the funk to the Concert hall stage!
2. the teMPer traP
this Melbourne band burst onto the scene to claim
international success with their sexy, groove-laden modern
pop sound. they return to Sydney after a near two-year
absence with two shows exclusively for Vivid LiVe. Playing old
favourites like ‘Sweet disposition’ and showcasing new material
from their forthcoming second album, these shows will be an
exciting way to welcome back this brilliant young band.
3. MY BrighteSt diaMond (with String enSeMBLe)
My Brightest diamond, aka experimental-pop sensation
Shara worden, presents her third and best album all things
will unwind as an exclusive concert in the opera theatre. a
critically acclaimed artist who stretches the limits of what is
capable in pop music, Shara has been called ‘the voice of her
generation’. this detroit-born singer/composer will be creating
an unparalleled musical experience for Vivid LiVe.
4. efterKLang & SYdneY SYMPhonY
for over a decade this respected danish band has built a
strong reputation for their immense live arrangements that
use multiple musicians to enhance the nature of their work.
an exclusive Vivid LiVe commission, efterklang will integrate
with Sydney Symphony, conducted by Matthew Coorey, and
mark a new beginning for the band as they premiere their
fourth still-to-be-released album, Piramida.
5. Shut uP and PLaY the hitS
this is an inspiring film that captures the week before, the day
after and the occasion of LCd Soundsystem’s Madison Square
garden farewell Concert – marking the end of James Murphy’s
10-year journey. this vibrant in-the-moment film was an official
selection at the Sundance film festival, Shut uP and PLaY
the hitS will make its australian Premiere at Vivid LiVe 2012.

6. fBi radio / PennY droP PartY – ZoLa JeSuS, Light aSYLuM, forCeS
fBi radio and Penny drop present a show that walks on the
darker side of indie rock featuring the australian debuts
of both Zola Jesus and Light asylum, stars of a genre that
mixes gothic, operatic tendencies with a post-punk aesthetic.
dramatic and cathartic, this not-to-be-missed event direct
from the cutting edge of the indie scene also features

rage – celebrating 25 years on aBC tV
for the last 25 years aBC tV’s rage has been everyone’s favourite
all night video mix tape. with exclusive guest programming and
rare clips drawn from the station’s extensive music archives, there
are few music programs in the world as important as rage. So it’s
exciting to announce a huge exhibition to be held at Carriageworks,
celebrating this institution of late night rock ‘n’ roll tV!

over 12 days and nights the city centre comes to cinematic
life with more than 150 films and documentaries, glamorous
red carpet galas as well as many interesting talks and forums

town hall will open its doors with free exhibitions, screenings,
talks, panels, parties, live music, performances and dJs.
the hub’s headline attraction will be an exclusive photography
exhibition by the renowned european photographer fabrizio
Maltese, featuring a series of 25 large-scale photographic
portraits of iconic film stars and filmmakers taken at the world’s

• X Media Lab, an internationally acclaimed, cross-platform

• aPra Song Summit 2012, will see some of the world’s best
songwriters including neil finn, imogen heap and legendary
guitarist Steve Cropper imparting their expert guidance on how
